Story
Percy is a gorgeous, lively and affectionate 3 year-old Italian pup looking for her perfect forever home. She thrives best in a household without children and where someone is home more than away. She would love to have a resident dog who enjoys playing gently with smaller companions. She would be fine as a solo dog as long as she has exercise and mental stimulation. She came into rescue due to her anxiety and not thriving in the home with children because of this. Her new home must be without children. Her anxiety has drastically improved in her foster home and she is thriving. This cheerful girl sleeps quietly in her kennel at night and adores her stuffed toys and treat-filled puzzles, especially when peanut butter is involved! Percy requires a home committed to providing her with structured exercise—not just yard time, but engaging walks and mental stimulation. Activities like puzzles and training sessions help channel her high energy and keep her happy and well-balanced. In her foster home, Percy has been working on her manners and has made significant progress, especially with curbing her counter-surfing tendencies. She responds beautifully to positive reinforcement and needs a patient, consistent owner who can continue her training with kindness and structure. Percy is a dog best fit for an owner with dog experience. Percy loves "her" people however it does take her 5 mins or so to warm up to new people. Percy is a great eater, though she prefers to have her meals in her kennel. When she first arrived, she exhibited some resource-guarding behaviors around food, but her foster has worked hard to help her develop more polite food manners. For simplicity and her comfort, feeding her in her kennel remains the best approach. The crate is her safe space. She is crated when she is home alone. She is used to sleeping in her crate overnight but also has slept in the human bed previously as well. As with most iggies, she needs an attentive person to avoid potty accidents. Routine and consistency is what all these pups need and Percy as well. She does well with going potty quickly in the fenced yard in bad weather and heads right back inside during cold weather. She is not great about potty/elimination on a leash so at this time, she needs a fenced yard. We have been told that Percy likes to torment the cats in her previous home. We think she would do best in a cat free home. She would enjoy another small dog in the home that can be a playful companion to her. Percy thrives in a home that provides positive training, structure, and plenty of love. In return, she offers an endless supply of affection and loyalty. She truly deserves a family that will dedicate themselves to her happiness and well-being. Her foster family has absolutely adored her and admits she would have stayed if their home wasn’t already full of resident dogs. Percy is one of a kind, and she’s ready to be the heart of her new home. She is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, Heartworm neg and on prevention and just had a dental cleaning and still has all her teeth. Percy is fostering in Lincoln, Nebraska.
