Story
Beautiful, Sweet, Resilient Girl Seeking a of Forever Home. Meet Snow Queen (aka Queenie) What we know of Queenie’s story is truly heartbreaking. She was abandoned in the freezing cold, very pregnant and in poor condition. Despite the great efforts of loving and dedicated staff all of her puppies died leaving a heartbroken Mama. We are so proud of the progress she has made since first coming to the shelter. The first few days she avoided human contact, preferring to hide out in the far corner of the yard or her kennel. She cowered and shook violently out of fear as she experienced new sights and sounds. We realized quickly that she is a very smart girl. Queenie was potty trained in only a few days. Since then she has learned how to walk on a leash, how to sit and be a good girl for treats, how to play fetch, how to play with other dogs and how to steal our hearts. She knows lights out means it is time for bed and a peanut butter kong means it’s time to get in her crate. Queenie loves to spend her days lounging on the patio couch, sunbathing in the backyard or curled up next to her foster sisters. Queenie likes chasing flying insects in the yard and watching the birds. She frequently has riveting conversations with the neighboring dogs. She loves getting pets and snuggling up next to another pup or person. She likes to have her plushy babies with her and will carry them from room to room. She is eager to please and always watching our pups for cues on how to behave and play. She softly sings the sweetest little song when she gets excited and gives the most gentle loving kisses. Queenie has the cutest wiggle butt tail wags, the most adorable expressive perky ears that flutter when she trots, and beautiful brown eyes that stare into your soul. Queenie is still adjusting to being a pet and will need patience as she continues to learn to trust and play. Unexpected loud noises and quick motions still frighten her at times, causing her to cower in fear or shake. I believe that she has been physically abused in the past based upon her fearful reactions. Although this breaks my heart it also makes me incredibly proud of how brave and resilient she is. We have experienced so much joy watching her learn to trust and seek out attention and affection. We have observed Queenie with gentle and respectful children and she shared that same gentleness and respect back. Her previous foster did say she was frightened with her children’s loud and unpredictable movements. When they are sitting quietly she seeks them out for pets and snuggles, but when they are being loud and rambunctious she grumbles or barks to remind them to use their inside voices and settle down. We want to ensure that she goes to a great home and will do whatever we can to make the transition as easy as possible for Queenie. Age: 3 - 4 years old Potty Trained Approximately 30 pounds Low to moderate energy level - more coach potato than athlete No destructive behaviors. No chewing or scratching. Enjoys watching and interacting with other well behaved dogs of all sizes. No aggression toward people. If she grumbles or barks out of fear it is always followed by a head drop, tail wags, and seeking pets. No demonstration of separation anxiety. Very well-mannered. No Jumping, biting, pawing or rough play Doing very well on leash training. Does not pull or tug. Attentive, polite, eager to please, super sweet, gentle, learning to be playful
