You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive there for a meet & greet. Mileage requirements may be lifted for Cavalier or DCM experienced homes. Lizzie came from a past life of breeding. Thankfully, she is a love bug and is not timid like most are. At Lizzie's vet intake appointment, the vet heard a heart murmur. Because of this, we got her seen with the cardiology team at U of I. She was diagnosed with Nutritional Secondary Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM). DCM is not common for the cavalier breed. Her valves look good & there is trivial evidence of tricuspid regurgitation. The concern is with some enlargement, we have started her on a high-quality diet that could slow/reverse this condition. Lizzie will need to be seen by a licensed cardiologist in November for a recheck echocardiogram and follow the cardologist recommendation going forward for rechecks. She has also started Pimobendan which she may or may not need to remain on this medication long term. Your local vet is not the same as a cardiologist and they cannot perform these tests. If you don't already have a cardiologist, do the research to see where the closest one is to you and ensure you can make the drive should they be far away. You will be required to provide us the name of the cardiologist you would use when you apply. When Lizzy came into rescue, she needed a dental. She only had 13 teeth that needed to be cleaned/ but unfortunately, they were bad and all had to be pulled. Good news, Lizzy is in no more mouth pain and you will not need to pay for any more dentals. Lizzie is okay with a leash. She does better at her potty duties if she has a secure area to go in. For this reason, we would discuss a small designated physically secure area, as Lizzie isn't really fond of playing outside. She doesn't need a fenced yard, but she does need some security. Remember how little she is, and NEVER should she be left alone outside. Lizzie is a stage 5 clinger, she will glue herself to you, or any human, who will pick her up. Her number one goal all day long is to be touching a human. Being held by a human, laying next to a human, sitting with a human, staring at a human.....lol. You get the idea. Lizzie is an excellent car rider. She is just happy to be part of the festivities. Lizzie is just so thankful to have a chance at her own family. She is an absolute gem that doesn't get into any trouble, loves everyone she meets, and just wants love! Please let us know if you have the perfect home to offer Lizzie by sending us an email. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive there for a meet & greet. Mileage requirements may be lifted for Cavalier experienced homes. Millicent came into our rescue back in February. She settled into her foster home & everything was going well, mostly. Her foster mom was trying hard to help Millicent stick to her diet plan, but it just wasn't going the way it should. Then we got word that maybe there was a reason she wasn't losing weight. We took her in for an x-ray. Sure enough, she smuggled in a belly full of puppies! Off to the maternity ward she went. A nice clean area was set up for her, she settled in, and that diet was put aside! Millicent has been a mom for the very last time. Millicent is ready to find her own family now. Since being in foster care, Millicent has learned how to be part of a family. She enjoys lounging on the couch during the day with her foster four-legged friends while foster mom is at work and being in foster mom's lap in the evenings. She loves to have the attention. She is very trustworthy and is never put into a kennel. Millicent is not very good on a leash yet but does walk on one. However, she is a Spaniel and they have a mind of their own. We will only review applications that have appropriate fencing. We encourage you to submit your app with a photo of your fenced yard. She should NEVER EVER be left in a yard without supervision as she has climbed out of a fence before. Millicent is doing very well with her potty-training routine as long as she is taken out on a regular basis. It is important to note that anytime there is a change in environment or schedule, you must give the dog a chance to be successful. A new routine that employs consistency & praise will help set them up for success. This is one very sweet girl looking for her forever home. If you are interested in adopting her, make sure you have read up on the breed if you have never had one. Cavaliers are wonderful companions but they are not for everyone financially. Please let us know if you are ready for an adventurous sidekick, who also really enjoys naps! You can send us an email at Gateway4paws@gmail.com

Story
Jesko Cocker Spaniel Male - 21lbs about 3yo Neutered/ Microchipped UTD on all vaccinations Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY. If you feel your family is a perfect match, please send an email to gateway4paws@gmail.com for additional information. Applications & FAQ regarding adoption can be found on our website. Only completed applications that meet requirements will be reviewed. Since we are 100% foster-based rescue, only approved applications will be contacted. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. Jesko is being fostered in Maryville, IL area. You must live within 350 miles & able to drive for a meet & greet/adoption. We got a call from a rescue intake group who wanted to make sure he was safe, but didn't have a foster family available in their program. Fortunately, we did! We sent out a volunteer & brought him into our care. Jesko is now UTD on vaccinations, microchipped, neutered and on heartworm/flea preventative. He is on the path to getting healthy & growing his coat in; ready to find his furever family. Jesko is doing very well with leash training, we are not requiring a fence for his adoption. But he MUST be kept secure on a leash AT ALL TIMES if he is not inside a secure fence. Like the majority of all Spaniels, he does NOT have good recall & is easily distracted by blowing leaves, squirrels, & birds. If you have a fence, it needs to be completely secure & enclosed, no gaps. Jesko has had tons of fun in his foster home. He plays with the resident dogs, and his absolute favorite thing is to play ball! Jesko is very friendly & loves to make friends with everyone. He loves being in the middle of all the action, that means sometimes he is putting his paws up on things he probably shouldn't- like furniture, or cabinets, or people (kids) who may be unstable on their feet. He does respond to 'off'. He would benefit from a beginner training course. This would help with his manners & for his own safety. We really didn't have to do much work on potty training. We have been amazed at how well Jesko caught on to routine & he has not had any accidents since moving into his foster home. Remember, in a new home, a new environment means that new habits will have to be established. Please be prepared to set him up for success by getting a schedule in place. Always praise your dog when they meet your expectations. Bringing home a new dog is a huge responsibility that requires plenty of patience & time! But it is very rewarding if everyone is invested. Please apply if you meet the requirements & would like to adopt a sweet energetic buddy. Jesko will be a fabulous friend!
