Socialization/training: Charlie knows the commands Kennel, here, “no”, off, trade, leave it. We do our walks with a no pull harness and that help reduce his pulling. He is a high energy dog. He gets along well with other dogs but he does try to be fun police with some bigger dogs. He is a very well socialized and outgoing with all humans. He is a very sweet dog.  Crate trained: Yes, but he has some separation anxiety, so I use a belly band when I leave the house. Leash trained: This is a work in progress for Charlie. He needs a no-pull harness (Gentle Leader or Easy Walk harness) to reduce his pulling during walks. Activity Level: Charlie is your typical setter boy with high energy levels!  Fence: Yes, he will need a home with a physical fence, but 4’ height would be fine for him. He respects the fence in his foster home.  Behavior: Charlie is a true setter with a high prey drive. He loves toys! He's not destructive to property apart from toys, which he likes to play with. He is a goofy boy! He wants to learn and is very food and toy motivated, so he's easy to train. He is very affectionate, as he likes to kiss and nibble his human. He is more of a velcro dog and likes to be with his person, he is learning to not follow his person around inside. Medical History: Charlie is a lucky boy, as with the help of Above & Beyond, he survived stage 4 heartworm disease! He is clinically normal and he should be able to reach typical life expectancy for a setter. He is on a supplement for his heart and needs yearly echocardiograms. He is still on meds for separation anxiety. This dog is amazing and tough. Foster Comments: Charlie is not suitable for low energy environment, as he is a high energy boy and needs to be able to burn off his energy daily. He will need patience from his forever home; he had no self-control behaviors before coming to rescue a year ago, but he has learned a lot and has come a long way. His adopter will need to continue working with him. Socialization/training: Oboe loves all people including men, women, and children. He has met a person using a wheelchair, using crutches, and using a knee scooter and was not phased- I think he would make a great therapy dog. He has met and been fine with dogs in the home and dogs on walks. He has met dogs of various sizes. Oboe grew up around cats, and while I don't have any, he was not interested in a cat that approached us on a walk. Oboe is good around the house and knows "sit," "down", "stay" "come" "place" "leave it" and knows how to use a scratch board to file his nails. He also knows "pack your bags"- check out his video. He is food motivated and learns quickly. We have been working on training him to pass the Canine Good Citizen test. Crate trained: Oboe is crated at night and when I leave the house, usually for only a couple hours at a time. Sometimes he will bark for a couple of minutes before settling down. He has also been left loose around the house alone for up to 2 hours at a time and has had no issues. Leash trained: Oboe is generally very good on leash and walks with minimal pulling. He is happy when he sees dogs and people on walks and wants to meet them. Activity Level: Oboe is more on the mellow side but is still a puppy. Currently he plays each day with my dogs and goes for a 15-minute walk and that has been enough. He also loves to play with toys and will sometimes fetch. He settles well in the house. Fence: Oboe can go to a home without a fence that has an exercise plan in place and is willing to work on his leash skills. He does not try to escape fenced in areas and would do fine with a 4ft fence as well. Behavior: Oboe has the cutest “roo” and loves attention. He is a happy, playful puppy. He will lean right into you for petting. He will cuddle with you for a nap and is also fine with leaving me to my work while he finds a place to nap. Oboe loves to play with my dogs, but will guard his food from them. He can be fed with the other dogs while supervised so that no one visits anyone else's bowl. He has no problems with me touching his food bowl while he eats. He has a calm demeanor, but gets excited to see his favorite people.  Medical History: Oboe is neutered, microchipped, up to date on his shots, and on monthly heartworm prevention. Oboe has enamel hypoplasia, which is to say the enamel did not develop properly on his teeth. As a result, plaque will build up quicker on his teeth and the vet has recommended daily toothbrushing for him and yearly dental checkups. He is on an anti-inflammatory medication for hip dysplasia and is doing physical therapy. He has seen an orthopedic specialist that recommends common sense exercise restrictions such as no hard-core exercises. He has no problems using steps, going on walks, playing with other dogs, etc. The hip dysplasia is mild so surgery is not recommended. He is due for his next leishmaniasis test in Oct 2025. This dog originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. They tested negative before coming to the USA, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab. The cost of the test seems to vary widely by area, but is approximately $150-$250. or if your vet is willing to send the test to a veterinary college lab, cost can be as low as $80. Foster Comments: Oboe would fit well in most homes. Since he is a puppy, he needs a home that will continue training and socialization. I have taken him to a craft show, softball tournaments, Lowe's, pet stores, and to a friend's house to meet her dog and hang out. He has taken it all in stride, loving the attention of everyone who will stop to pet him. Oboe has an appreciation for soft blankets and will sometimes drag his blankie around the house. He is the sweetest puppy that just wants to please his people. Socialization/training:  Louie is a playful, curious young puppy from Greece. While initially skittish around new sights and sounds, especially unfamiliar men, he quickly warms up and becomes a devoted companion. He's highly food-motivated, which makes training easy. He's learned to sit and leave other our dogs alone after eating, although he still eats very quickly, even with a slow feeder. He's not food aggressive but will take food off the counter if left unattended. With consistent training, he'll readily learn more commands. He's also learning to ring a bell to go outside and has had only one accident. He is relatively good at figuring out what is a toy and what is not, but can occasionally get interested in pillows. He shows interest in, but isn't overly focused on, our cat. His interactions with children have been positive, though he hasn't been around babies or toddlers yet. We believe Louie would truly flourish in a home with other dogs and/or children, as his playful nature and energy levels make him an ideal playmate. Having companions would help channel his exuberance in positive ways and keep him happily occupied.  Crate trained:  Yes, Louie is crated when we are away or not able to give him 100% of our attention. He sleeps through the night in a crate without issue but whines initially when first put away or when he can see and hear the other dogs.   Leash trained:  Louie is still in training when it comes to his on-leash behavior and tends to zig zag erratically back and forth before getting into a rhythm. He walks for 3-4 miles a day and knows how to sit for a treat. He is reactive to people and dogs during a walk and tends to lock on and bark. At the moment his prey drive is low and he is not nearly as interested in birds or rabbits as our other setters; however, this may change as he gets more confident and familiar with his environment.  Activity Level:  As a younger setter, Louie definitely has energy and enjoys romping around the house with our other dogs as well as chasing and chewing on toys. He also will curl up in a ball and rest when nothing of interest presents itself. He needs constant attention and if left alone he can and will get into trouble.   Fence:  We live in a townhouse and walk Louie 3-4 times a day as well as several short trips outside for a potty break. I think a fence would be preferable but he would still need constant attention and could easily fit through a wider gapped fence.     Behavior:  Louie embodies the quintessential setter puppy, brimming with boundless energy and an insatiable curiosity that keeps us on our toes. His intelligence shines through in his quick learning and problem-solving skills, while his easy-going nature makes him a joy to be around. Louie's affectionate personality is evident in the way he adores his people, always seeking ways to show and receive love. His devotion to his us is unwavering, often choosing a favorite person to shadow with no concept of personal space, following them everywhere with an eagerness to be part of the action. Medical History:  Louie is in excellent health with no significant medical history. He tested negative for tick born illnesses, heartworm and leishmania. He is currently on heartworm prevention and microchipped.  Louie will need to be neutered at 9 months and our vet recommended his baby teeth (which have still not fallen out) be removed at this time as well. Any household fortunate enough to welcome Louie into their home will gain more than just a pet; they'll acquire a loyal, lifelong companion.  He'll always be by your side, sometimes a bit too closely for comfort, but always with the best intentions. His enthusiasm for life is contagious, and he's perpetually ready to engage in fun activities, whether it's a game of fetch, a training session, or simply a cuddle on the couch. One of Louie's favorite pastimes is his acrobatic approach to cuddling. He delights in launching himself over the high side of the couch, fearlessly leaping into us as well as the other dogs sleeping peacefully. When he's not perfecting his high-flying cuddle technique, Louie entertains himself – and us – with his couch antics. He has a peculiar habit of wiggling and burrowing into the couch cover, creating a nest of sorts. But he doesn't stop there; in what seems to be a celebratory ritual, he then proceeds to kick off each and every pillow with gusto. Louie’s zest for life is truly infectious. His ability to find joy in the simplest things – a fluttering leaf, a squeaky toy, or a friendly face – is something we greatly appreciate and with Louie by your side, every day promises to be filled with love, laughter, and new discoveries. Socialization/training: Matilda is very timid and shy at first, but after she gets to know a person, she is not as fearful. She will sometimes cower when I come home from work, but becomes social again when she realizes it’s me. She occasionally does a submissive pee when I come in the door and get her ready to go outside. She is good with kids and good with men after a proper and gentle introduction. She is great with other dogs and loves to play. She has a prey drive and chases cats. I do not feel comfortable letting my cats roam free when Matilda is around.She is very good waiting for me to come home. The first few days she was here, she ripped a few dog beds and disemboweled all of her toys, but since settling in, she has been much calmer and is trustworthy to leave alone. She learns quickly, especially with the right motivation (chicken jerky and steak tips). She knows the basics, like sit and lie down. Crate trained: Matilda stays in a crate at night and is very content, especially if she can see or hear a person. I think with some training, she will do well in a crate during the day, though she is very good at home without a crate. Leash trained: She walks great on a leash, though sometimes gets excited and tries to run ahead. She will bark at other dogs when on leash, but might be taking social cues from the resident dog. She greets other walkers nicely and accepts their pets. Activity Level: Matilda has a good amount of energy, but not full-setter levels of activity. She loves to play with other dogs and go on walks. She is also very laid-back and doesn’t demand exercise. Fence: Leash walking would be sufficient, but a fence would be nice for her to explore the area around the home. If she did have a fence at home, she would need a 6-foot fence – girl can jump! She can leap over and crawl under my baby gate at home, so she has the capability to be an escape artist. Behavior: Matilda is super sweet and affectionate, often coming up for pets and love. She likes to jump when she’s excited! She also loves playing with toys and tries to engage the two resident dogs. She would be super social with them if they gave her the chance. She takes a while to warm up to people, but when she does, she is very eager to please, especially if there are treats involved. She also tries to climb into laps for cuddles. She absolutely loves her humans and is a Velcro dog. Medical History: Matilda was caught as a stray, but has no lasting medical issues. She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and on monthly heartworm prevention. Foster Comments: Matilda is such an easygoing, sweet, beautiful soul and she deserves a home that will cherish her and shower her with as much love as she gives. She would do really well in a home with other friendly dogs who like to play. She takes social cues from more confident dogs. She should not be in a home with cats or other prey animals. And while she does well with kids, I’m not sure how well she would do in a home with constant activity. We have a quiet life here and she might get stressed out with more activity. She is a wonderful, loving, goofy companion. I would have adopted her if she was good with the cats! Socialization/training: Usher knows the commands sit, down, and comes to his name when called in the house and the yard. He is a puppy, so he can be shy at first in new situations but quickly adapts. He learns very quickly and is food motivated. He is very well behaved in the house, especially for a puppy! Crate trained: Usher is a 7 month old puppy, so he can be trusted as much as any 7 month old puppy. We have only left him alone for short periods. He eats his meals in a crate and sleeps through the night in a crate. We have left him alone with our other dogs for about an hour and all went well. Leash trained:  He walks very nicely on a leash. He will bark at passing dogs on the walk but we are working on that. We don't have a lot of wildlife but he ignores birds and ducks but has barked at the occasional squirrel. Activity Level: He is a very mellow puppy. He has zoomies from time to time but settles nicely in the house. He does play with chew toys and will play tug but my dogs are bigger so he gives up. He will play tug with me as well. He follows my dogs around and will play with dogs that are more his size. He gets one walk a day and so far that is plenty.  Fence:  A fence is not required as long as he gets walks and play time. He has not tried to climb the fence. Behavior:  Usher initially was always at my feet and followed me constantly. He is becoming more independent every day. He loves to snuggle next to whoever is on the couch. He is playful but has lower energy compared to other puppies I have had. He is cautious in new situations but warms up quickly. Medical History:  Usher is microchipped, up to date on all his vaccines ,and on monthly heartworm prevention. He does not have any ongoing health issues. He will need to be neutered after adoption, so he will be adopted out on a puppy contract. His next leishmaniasis test is due by October 2025.
