Story
Hi there, I’m Koa! Now, before you ask: yes, these are my real ears. I know they look like they belong to a satellite dish company, but they’re 100% mine, and they come with a lifetime warranty. These bad boys can hear a snack bag rustle from three rooms away or detect a squirrel plotting chaos from across the yard. Pretty impressive, huh? At two years old, I’m a delightful mix of Golden Retriever and German Shepherd, which basically makes me the ultimate combo of smart, loyal, and drop-dead gorgeous. My golden coat is soft enough to make you question why people spend money on blankets, and my petite 60-pound frame is perfect for all your hugging and cuddling needs. I’m like a pint-sized supermodel who loves belly rubs. I didn’t always have it this good though. Not too long ago, I was out on my own, wandering the streets as a stray. I don’t know how it happened, but no one came looking for me. I ended up in a shelter, and before I knew it, I was on death row. Yep, me—sweet, smart, gorgeous me—was about to have my story cut short. Luckily, the amazing folks here at Pyr Paws N Fluffy Tails swooped in and said, “Nope, not on our watch!” They gave me a second chance, and I’ve been making the most of it ever since. I will never be able to repay my foster family for their generosity and for taking a chance on me. Now I’m looking for a forever home where I’ll never have to worry about being forgotten again. So, here’s the scoop—besides being ridiculously cute and having ears that could pick up radio signals, I’ve also got a little health challenge I’m tackling right now. I tested positive for something called heartworms. No, it’s not a heart-shaped worm (that would be weirdly cute, but also gross), but rather a parasite that lives in your heart and lungs. It’s not a fun thing to have, but the good news is it’s treatable! I’m currently undergoing treatment to kick these little guys to the curb and feel 100% again. The process takes a little time, so I won’t be available for adoption until mid-December. If you're local to the OKC area and can help me with finishing my meds and getting to my vet appointment in about a month or so, you could be the one who gets to bring me home sooner. Now, let’s talk about my vibe in the day-to-day stuff because I know you’re curious about what I’m like beyond the glam shots and witty charm. Car rides? Oh, I’m a pro—or at least I like to think so. I’ll hop right in, no hesitation, and might even try to call dibs on the shotgun seat because, hello, VIP status. Once I’m settled, though, I’ll lie down in the back and chill. I’m a great road trip buddy. When it comes to outings, though, I’m still a work in progress. Public places like cafes or pet stores? Not quite my jam yet. I get a little too excited when I see other dogs, so I’d need some practice and patience to keep my cool. For now, being a homebody is more my speed—cozy couches, backyard hangouts, and snuggle sessions are totally my vibe. Think of me as your introverted bestie who loves staying in and binge-watching your favorite shows. Leash walks? We’re still figuring those out. I haven’t had much experience yet, but I’m learning! I definitely prefer a harness (fashionable and functional, thank you very much) because I tend to pull on the leash. Patience and practice will be the key to turning me into your perfect walking partner. Meeting new people? Oh, I’m a mix of excitement and shyness at first. I might play it cool and hang back, or I might lean in and plop down right in front of you for some pets. Once I decide you’re friend material, you’ll have a loyal companion who will soak up every ounce of love you’re willing to give. Long story short, if you’re looking for a sweet, goofy, playful gal who also knows how to chill, I might just be your dream dog. I’m a solid mix of active and calm. You want to toss a ball? Great, I’ll play fetch with you all day long. (Seriously, I could probably qualify for Fetch Olympics.) You want to curl up and binge-watch something? Perfect—I’m down for that too, as long as you don’t mind sharing the popcorn. I’ve recently discovered the pure joy of toys, and let me tell you, I’m making up for lost time. Squeaky toys, tug toys, plushies—it doesn’t matter. If it’s fun and makes you laugh, I’m all over it. Oh, and speaking of laughs, I’ve got a new move I like to show off: standing on my back legs and gently placing my paws on you. It’s my way of saying, “Hey, I love you!” in the most adorable way possible. Alright, time for a little honesty—I've got a tiny quirk I’m working on. I’m a bit iffy around men. Sometimes, when I meet one, I get a little nervous and might let out a “grumble” to make sure they know I’m still figuring them out. But don’t worry! With some patience, kindness, and maybe a treat (or five), I’m starting to realize that they are not going to hurt me. Once I trust you, though? You’re in for a lifetime of love, snuggles, and enough goofy antics to keep you laughing. So, if you’re willing to give me a little time to warm up, I promise I’ll make it worth your while! Now, let’s talk about my living situation, because I’m a flexible girl and I’m pretty adaptable to whatever you’ve got going on. Apartment living? Yep, I can totally do that—with walks, of course! I’ve got plenty of energy to burn, and I’ll gladly take you on some adventures around the neighborhood. Potty training? Check! I know the drill and am all about doing my business outside like a well-mannered lady. Kennel trained? Absolutely! I’ll happily settle into my crate when needed. Couch potato? Oh, you bet I am! I mean, if you have a couch and you’re not letting me on it, we need to have a serious talk. I’m a cuddle queen, and the couch is my throne. Chewing? Nah, I’m not the destructive type. Toys are where I direct all my chewing energy. You don’t have to worry about me munching on shoes, furniture, or anything else that isn’t a toy. Barking? As far as I know, I’m a pretty quiet gal. You won’t hear me barking at every leaf that blows by like soooooome dogs I know. ;) Free roam of the house? Absolutely! Once I’ve settled in, you can trust me to roam freely. I’m a good girl—just let me know where the good snacks are hidden, and we’re all good! ;) Okay, let’s talk about my potential future siblings and housemates, because I know it’s important to figure out where I’ll fit in best! Other dogs? Uh, I’ll be real with you—I’m still working on my “doggie diplomacy” skills. I was kenneled with another dog at the shelter, but the other dogs in my foster home? Not so much my vibe. I tend to get a little reactive around them (I know, I know, not my best look). So, while I may not be the most social butterfly with my fellow pups, I’d say I’m better off as the only dog in the house. After all, who needs competition when I’m this fabulous? Cats? I’m not sure about the whole feline situation. I’m not currently hanging out with any cats, so I don’t know if I’m more "best friends forever" or "I’m just gonna stare at you" when it comes to them. But hey, I’m always open to new friends if they’re willing to be patient with me! Kids? I haven’t had any kiddos in my life just yet, so I can’t say whether I’ll be the ultimate playmate or more of the “I’ll watch you from a distance” type. But I think I’d be great with older, dog-savvy kids who know how to give a lady like me some space while we figure each other out. Alright, let’s get real for a sec. I’m looking for a forever home, not a “until” kind of situation. I’ve been there before, and trust me, it’s not the fun kind of ride. I was picked up as a stray and left unclaimed at the shelter, then I ended up on death row—yep, I almost lost everything because someone decided I wasn’t their forever. When I say I want to be with you, I mean I want to be your constant, your companion, your snuggle buddy for life. I’m not interested in being a temporary fix. I want to be the one you come home to every day, the one who’s by your side through thick and thin. I promise, if you make me your forever dog, I’ll make every day worth it. I’ll give you all my love, my goofy moments, and my loyal heart—because I’m in it for the long haul. I’m not looking for a pit stop; I’m looking for my home. So what happens next? Well, I would hope that you would submit an adoption app for me. You can find the app on the rescue's website, message them for it, or find it in the comments below. I am being fostered in ✨Norman, OK✨ so if you live outside the area..no worries. Just be prepared to pack for a road trip because this rescue doesn't send us on transports. So, both they and I will be expecting you to come pick me up. And what better way to start the bonding process than with a road trip?! With all my love, Koa
