Story
George's Facebook Album June 2024: Happy 2 year rescueanniversary Sir George. He’s come a long way in 2 years, but I haven’t had any adoption inquiries on him in over a year. He’s safe in a loving foster home where he loves to play with his foster sisters and he also loves to look for squirrels. He is also completely spoiled rotten getting the yummiest food and he feels safe and loved. I can’t even imagine how frightened he must have been in that awful cage we saved him from—and him having to suffer being outside 24/7 in all weather. It is a feel good to know his life is so much better now. February 2024: at long last-- my sweetie pie is heartworm negative!! So are 3 of his sisters which makes me very proud as Illinois Birddog Rescue will only do the slow kill treatment plan. His 3 sisters are in loving forever homes and I can hope that his perfect new momma is out there looking for him. The funny part about Georgie is that lately he has turned into a fuzzball with the funniest hair. He is also having the best time watching the squirrels in the yard as we have several building nests in our big trees. George has also become the sweetest most loving dog. He loves to be loved on. He loves to be brushed and he loves any attention he can get. January 2024: I've taken quite a few indoor photos of Georgie since the weather change so take a look at his album. He is so happy being an indoor dog considering his past life. I've gotten to know him a lot better too. He's been so great with all my dogs, especially my senior dogs and he is 100% cat safe. His passion is squirrel hunting and he will watch the antics of the squirrels for hours if I would let him. Lately we have been doing a lot more cuddles and George loves to be brushed. He's been a good sport about modeling the fundraising dog coats and a dog bed we also had in a fundraiser. The perfect home with George would be with a single lady or a pair of ladies that will give him time to trust. While I've always been able to love on George, it would be an adjustment for him to move to a new forever home. If there was a sweet female playful dog in the home, that would be even better. I have not taken him out and about so I don't know how he would do at a pet store or on a walk. My goal has just always been to help him get over the horrible life he had prior to coming into our rescue in June of 2022. He seems to have suffered the worst and is fearful with flashlights especially. He can get overly excited when folks walk by the house and delivery vehicles also get him a little excited. The sound of garbage trucks tend to scare him too. George will need a home with a privacy fence or a fence that has vertical bars which is working well for his fence jumping sister. In the perfect home, George will be a loving companion and if with a single lady-- a reliable watch dog. I am hopeful that his next heartworm test will be negative. Lyme disease is NOT curable so he will have to have annual testing and periodic antibiotic therapy the rest of his life. June 2022: George is a very handsome Liver/ Tricolor and white Field bred English Setter. He is an owner surrender and lived most of his life in an outdoor pen were he was trained to pee and poop through wires that he was also force to walk on. His neglect includes heartworm and Lyme disease and he had a 103 temperature upon arrival to our vet. George has started heartworm slow kill and is feeling better and we hope his sweet personality comes to the surface the longer he is treated. I was told the dogs are 6 years old but we will never know for sure. He is underweight and weighed 49lbs but should be closer to 55. We need to treat him at least a month before he can be neutered. He will need work on cage and house training. We are looking for a Foster to Adopt home in the Chicago area so we can monitor his care. candidates also need to have a traditional safe fenced in yard as the last thing George needs is any more stress. He is starved for attention and we are hopeful he will have a long happy life. If you would like to help, please click HERE to submit a foster to adopt home application. Story
**NEW PHOTOS ADDED** Libby's GOFUNDME Click on the link if you can help with her recovery. 🙂 7-14-2024: Libby is doing incredibly well, 6 weeks into our program as I just added brand new photos of our happy girl today. Libby has gained nearly 10lbs and her hair that was cut off by the shelter due to terrible mats, is starting to grow back. She is loving being able to explore a fenced in yard and she is also so happy to be in air conditioning too. Libby is now pretty reliably house trained and the plan right now is just to help her gain a little more weight and also continue with our heartworm treatment plan. She would be a super easy dog for someone wanting a more mellow middle aged Setter. We are still looking for a foster to adopt home in the Chicago area. 6-20-2024: This is our new Lemon and White English Setter rescue- Libby's Recovery Album. I was contacted about her needing a rescue on May 30th and luckily we were able to move her to foster care the following Sunday. Libby was confiscated by the local animal control when a neighbor noticed she was being starved in an outdoor kennel. In spite of her neglect, Libby is a very loving Setter. We started her on a 3 time a day feeding routine, and we also did some worming and got her started on antibiotics for suspicion of tick borne disease and possible heart worms. She also had a bladder infection that is so much better. Blood work did confirm heart worms and she is now in our slow-kill treatment program. Libby will also need a dental in a few months when we do her spay. She is gaining weight slowly and learning how to be a proper house dog. Cage and house training is much better after a few weeks and she is especially loving with her foster daddy. We are looking for a Foster to Adopt home in the Chicago area so that we can get her full blood panel done and supervise her care. As Libby has a pair of suspicious mammary lumps, we will need to have those removed and biopsied too. Story
Click here for Winston's Facebook Album Winston is a young English Setter that was found as a stray in Eastern Tennessee after Hurricane Helene. Winston is a very sweet affectionate dog and is going to make the best pet and family companion. Unfortunately he is fighting heartworms, Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. So far he is doing great with our slow kill approach to these health problems and he is moving to foster care soon.
