Story
Macintosh aka Mac | 2-3 years old| 100 lbs | Red Tick Coonhound?| GTA
Mac is 100lbs of pure love, and he's looking for someone to share it with!
He was found as a stray, along with another dog, likely abandoned by his original family. Mac was very stressed at the shelter that took him in, but is now thriving in a more peaceful home environment.
Mac was a shelter favourite because of his big, sweet heart. The shelter volunteers all loved to walk him. His fosters have also fallen in love with what they describe as his "heart of gold". He just wants peace, love, and attention. He follows his fosters around with big, innocent eyes hoping to have his ears scratched. He loves to keep them company in the kitchen and munch on a carrot, his favourite snack. He loves to have his foster mom lightly pet his face to put him to sleep.
He gets along great with the dogs in his foster home, and despite being much bigger than them, he never tries to exert dominance. He is wonderful with the foster's cat, and SO gentle. He knows sit, down, and paw commands, and waits politely until he gets the go ahead to eat his food. He is so eager to please his people, and learns quickly.
It is a common misconception that big dogs need a lot of exercise. Mac is actually a real chiller. He needs a couple of good walks a day and then he's perfectly happy to relax at home. He has made amazing progress on his leash skills and is walking nicely on leash. He gets excitable when he sees another dog, but we're working through that. He just wants to play.
This is a really special dog who has an open and loving spirit, despite being disappointed by people in his past. Nobody deserves a forever family and a stable home more than him. While he would do well in many different types of families, with or without other dogs and cats, we think he'd love a pretty quiet and relaxed household. He can get a bit anxious and over stimulated in very busy and noisy environments.
Mac is pure sunshine in canine form. If you could use some extra warmth and light as the days get shorter, fill out an application for Mac today: https://form.jotform.com/pawsacrossthewater/adoption-application
