Story
Buddy the bulldog mix is approximately 3 years old and came to us very underweight at 35 lbs. We’d like to see him closer to 60 lbs. He is neutral with other dogs, cats and kids, but not good with farm animals. He was found as a stray outside of Dallas and taken to be examined by a vet by a good Samaritan. Buddy is already neutered. He was michrochipped but his owner did not want this sweet boy back when contacted. We think it is their loss! Before going to his forever home, he will be up to date on his shots, heartworm tested and a couple small masses removed from his sides. We will get him back up to an appropriate weight. Buddy is a sweet, chill dude that just wants cuddles with his people and naps on the couch. He is crate trained and house trained and is quickly learning to walk nicely on a leash. He doesn't like the cold weather we had this past winter so his foster got him a sweater! He rides really well in the car and is a perfect gentleman at the vet. Update on Buddy! He is gaining weight and is back to where he should be at about 65-75 lbs! Unfortunately it was discovered that he is heartworm positive and is in the treatment process. This process will take approximately 9 months, during which he can be adopted locally. Please help us find this sweet boy a forever home! 6/1/24 update: Buddy is still waiting for his forever home! He is the perfect dog so I don't know how he still doesn't have a home yet! 10/22/24: I really don't know why Buddy is still here! He is so chill, great with everyone he meets including dogs, cats, kids and adults, and takes everything in stride! To help him get adopted faster, his adoption fee is partially sponsored and will now be $275 instead of $350. Please help Buddy find his forever home!

Story
George is a spunky, affectionate, wire-haired 11 month old, 50lb English Bulldog/Poodle mix who loves people and is a total ham! He was unfortunately added to the euthanasia list at our local shelter for having an easily treatable upper respiratory infection. One of our generous supporters offered to sponsor in home boarding for him with a pet sitter until he finished his treatment, so we were able to save him! Since being with us, George has blossomed into an energetic little firecracker when he's around other dogs, and a total sweetheart when he's around people! George is very human oriented and while he does have his fair share of that typical bulldog stubbornness, he always wants to please his people! He is a very smart boy and loves to work for treats. George is generally pretty chill most of the time, but does get excited when it's time for his walks or food. He is a very strong, sturdy dog but he doesn't often feel the need to use his strength, which is good for us! George is potty and crate trained and knows the sit command already. He is an intelligent boy and can surely learn many more commands and tricks with the right motivations! George still has to learn some manners when it comes to mouthing and occasionally jumping up on people, but he has already improved a lot since he first came to us. George is good with other dogs but would prefer to be the center of attention as the only dog in the home. He plays well but tends to be a roughhouser so if he goes into a home with another doggy sibling, they would need to have similarly matching energies. For this reason as well, we are recommending that he goes to a home without young children. Being a sassy bulldog with some manners to learn, someone with breed experience is preferred. George is located in Houston TX but can be transported to most US states for adoption.

Story
I am a HOOT! :) I am good with dogs, cats, and kids, and I LOVE butt scratches the most! I've surgery on my nose to help me breathe better, been spayed, and had a dental cleaning. I am halfway done with my heartworm treatment, but that treatment can be finished at our clinic even after adoption. You NEED a happy wiggle butt like me!!To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.https://longwayhome.org/apply ❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. As long as they need rescue, that's what is most important to us.

Story
Dean is looking for a longterm foster to adopt situation. He has come to our rescue in deplorable condition and needs 6-8 months of rehabilitative health care (provided by the rescue) before he will be medically cleared for a healthy adoption. But we also know that helping rehabilitate and nurse a dog back to health can strengthen a bond between a dog and his/her family. So, if there is a family or person interested in adopting Dean and would be willing to foster and house him while he recovers medically, we would be potentially willing to place him in a loving home now. dean is a 9-11 year old male English Bulldog who is very sweet and moves very slowly. He is currently being fostered in a home with dogs, cats, and children and doesn't pay much attention to anything or anyone. He is likely very uncomfortable and we probably won't see his true personality for some time. For anyone interested in potentially adopting, please complete our online application here: https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/6476b07912357a9a4606eddf/66d90c755aaaef78c6041663

Story
Adoptions include neuter, vaccinations and microchip. Jerry is a lively dog that enjoys being close to his foster family and playing/running the yard. I am fully crate trained and sleep in my crate at night. He enjoys playing with his toys and follows commands, such as "take a seat" in which he understands where he is to go sit. He is social and interacts with people and other dogs well. Jerry is not good with cats at all, so he needs to got a home in which there are no cats.

Story
Louise Ethel is approximately 2 year old blue and cream French Bulldog who loves people and is good with dogs, kids and cats. She seems like she hasn't spent much time around cats but the cats in her foster home are helping her learn that they are not for chasing. She is mostly house trained and does well in her crate and on a leash. Louise has some skin issues and an eye ulcer that are responding well to treatment and she is scheduled to be spayed and vaccinated soon.

Story
This poor dog was intentionally abandoned when his owners moved out of their apartment. He was on his own for 3 days!!!! We aren’t sure when the last time he even had food or clean water was. The water that was available was absolutely disgusting and undrinkable, and there was no food found in the apartment. One of our friends noticed he had been left behind and reached out to us. Of course we had to step in and help because how could anyone do this to any animal let alone your pet!?!? We did have to wait 24hours for Harris county to come so that the complex could make a report. We fed and watered him at that time! But he is now save with a foster and has been named Gregory. Gregory is a young boy, good with dogs, cats and kids and is house trained and kennel trained. We think he is a Micro Bully and/or French Bulldog mix. He will need airway surgery in addition to his neuter and vaccinations. Once he is fully vetted he will be ready for adoption. Please help us find Gregory is true forever home!
