Story
Disclosures to potential adopter: 1 Heartworm Positive Chelsea is heartworm positive in shelter, we are managing her condition using an alternative method known at the Moxy/Doxy protocol. The advantage is she won't need 3 painful injections that require sedation, but the disadvantage is she may be positive for longer (up to a year vs 3-4 months). Once adopted, if you elect to pursue the injection protocols, it would be advisable (can cost +/- $1,000) by the American Heartworm Society. If you don't elect injections and opt for continued topical therapy, we recommend rechecking with a heartworm test as soon as 3-4 months from now- the sooner she is negative, the sooner she can restart full exercise. On this protocol she must be on Advantage Multi monthly and must be activity restricted (until then AVOID rigorous activity) 2. Chelsea's cornea and iris have some scarring. This is chronic and relatively stable since the last time she was in our care (July). The integrity of the cornea may be compromised which may make the cornea susceptible to ulceration. It is recommended, if possible, that she sees a veterinary ophthalmologist for most specific diagnosis/prognosis/management and/or treatment recommendations for the eye 3. Behavior change. It was noted that Chelsea's behavior seemed to change while she was in her new home. "she stop listening to commends, would not react/respond to her name , forgot her bounders and overall not fully there.." Neurologically she seems appropriate and her bloodwork is normal (no indication of liver/kidney disease which may cause changes to mentation). At this point the cause of this behavior change is unknown, however Chelsea is from a puppy mill past and may have some anxiety/stress which is contributing to her behavior change.
