Story
Shelby came in as a stray and went unclaimed! This beautiful 4 year old is good with dogs, has no reaction to cats, and is good with young kids. She came in already spayed. She appreciates chasing after some toys, but doesn’t bring it back all the time. She has been known to jump a 6 foot fence, but she seems to do better without barriers! This mature lady is another female that is the whole package! She absolutely LOVES to be pet and coddled, so she would make a great couch potato!   If you would like to meet me, please visit our website and complete the pre-adoption application.  Once it has been processed then we can make a date to get together! All dogs are spayed/neutered, heartworm tested (if over 2 years old), vaccinated, dewormed, flea and tick treated, microchipped and more before adoption. Our adoption policies include: Application, Vet Reference, Landlord approval & Criminal Background Check. We do not do same day adoptions. We request that you call for an appointment after your application has been approved to come and visit the dog of your choice. If you have a dog currently, you should bring him/her along to meet the new dog so we can see how everyone interacts.  Please visit our website for additional information. The online application can be found at :https://hsburnettcty.org/adoption-guidelines/November 2, 2024, 1:17 pm

Story
How I Arrived At NHS: I lived in a very loving home, but due to unforeseen circumstances I could not live there anymore. I am a super sweet boy with energy to spare.I enjoy other dogs, it`s great to have a friend, but I do play kind of intense, so not all dogs jive with me. I will chase cats, so would need a home wthout them. I know sit, shake and lay down. If you point at a rug and tell me to `wipe your feet, wipe your paws`-I will do so- but I will need a treat afterward. I also know jump and spin.I was taken to the lake to learn to swim (with a lifevest), but I am still kind of afraid of the water. However, I do know how to ride with someone on a paddle board.I am definitely a velcro pup - I love being with people. I do still jump on people when excited. I have been training to not do that- I am starting to understand the word `off` and will most times sit when told `off`.I am still a pup and training classes would be great for me! And you!I was adopted but returned because I liked to grab things from people and run with them. I really need someone to get me the exercise I need, as I do better when I`m worn out. I`m just an energetic pup still!Good With Kids: I`d do best with older kids or adults only please. We do recommend a slow introductionGood With Cats: No. He does like to chase themGood With Dogs: Possibly. We do recommend a slow introduction. All the dogs at Northwoods Humane Society have had a basic exam by NHS veterinary staff. They have been microchipped, tested for Heartworm (if over 6 months of age), had at least their first distemper combo vaccination (2nd if here longer), dewormed with a general dewormer, and had a flea and tick treatment applied if applicable. All the dogs will be spayed or neutered before they are adopted to their new permanent homes. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix.
