Story
GEMMA IS BEING FOSTERED IN BLOOMINGTON IL Meet our precious girl, Gemma, who has MASTERED her puppy dog stare!  Sweet Gemmy NEEDS a hero.  She is a gorgeous black tri female that was found in a stray.  She is approximately 2 years old an is playful with other dogs.  Gemma is a goofy girl, that has a high prey drive, so no kitties, bunnies or other small pets is required for her. However, what she does make up that with providing you with BOUNDLESS cuddles.  She wants nothing more than to spend her time being as close as she can be with her person.  Gemma weighs around 45 lbs, and she is a typical aussie who is active and playful. While she loves a good evening of chilling at home, she equally loves running around the house showing off all her stuffies and squeaky toys!  Gemma is a bit cautious around new people and places, but her foster home has done some nice training work with her in exposing her to new people and new things, providing her with some positive experiences.  She is responding very well to the training and would love to have an adoptive home of her own that would continue this training for her.  She has made TREMENDOUS progress in her foster home, meeting new people, hearing new sounds and experiencing all the world has to offer.  She would do best in a home that is on the quiet side and does not have a lot of visitors.   Gemma is potty trained and crate trained and even puts herself in her kennel at night. She does have excellent house manners and can be left out without any mischief.  Gemma loves toys and bones and shares nicely with her foster brotherr. Fetch and chase are two of her favorite games to play.  Gemma is still learning to enjoy car rides so more positive experiences (pup cups) would be highly recommended.   Gemma is spayed and up-to-date on all shots and preventatives A home without young kids or small animals (cats, bunnies, etc) A physically fenced yard to exercise freely A patient adopter(s) to continue the training and socialization her foster is providing Gemma's WANTS Another social (same sized) dog in the home A quieter home without much coming and going A spot on the couch next to her best friend for life! ##1823568##

Story
Waldo is fostered in Waterford, MI. Waldo, who is affectionally called Wally, came to rescue from an Amish farm. He is a goofy and energetic 1 year old male Australian Shepherd who is ready to find his forever home.  Waldo is a blue merle weighing about 45 lbs.   With his boundless enthusiasm and silly nature, Wally is always up for a new adventure and would thrive in a household with another playful dog. Wally is a VERY active dog who thrives on physical exercise and mental stimulation. He loves to run, play, and engage in various activities that challenge his agile mind and body. Because of his size and energy levels, Wally will require a home with children over 10 years old and someone who is able to provide 1 - 2 hours (minimum) of daily exercise. He is an active, young, playful aussie.  While Wally’s energy is one of his most charming qualities, he is also working on some important skills. He is learning to manage his tendency to jump and is improving his understanding of boundaries. One thing Wally has mastered is potty training! He is also very good about being in his crate at night and while his foster family is out of the home. Wally is learning a great deal:  new people, situations, and new environments so he may be a bit nervous at first, but once he knows you, he'll be your best buddy.  Wally needs an adopter that is willing to continue his proper socialization to new things through positive experiences.  If you’re looking for a loyal and lively companion who will bring joy and excitement to your life, Wally might be the perfect match for you. Wally is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccinations and receiving monthly preventatives for fleas, ticks, and heartworms.  Proof of heartworm preventatives for all past and current pets is required to be adopted from us. Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, see our adoption fees, and find a link to our adoption application.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org ##2130336##

Story
Rowdy is being fostered in West Plains, Missouri. If only dogs could talk, we would love to hear this boy's story.  Rowdy is a 6 year old standard red merle male Australian Shepherd, currently weighing 46 pounds.  He came to us after his owner suddenly passed away.  He wasn't at her home long and prior to that, we understand he was a breeder.  Rowdy was barely in his adoptive home long enough to get comfy when his owner unexpectedly passed. Rowdy is now in the hands of our rescue and we want this beautiful soul to find an adoptive home that will love and cherish him for the remainder of his life.  He is so deserving of that.  Rowdy is in a foster home with 2 other female aussies and a large yard.  He is enjoying the company of the other dogs and gets along well with them.  He also doesn't mind spending the evening relaxing on the couch, catching a NetFlix movie with his humans.  Rowdy is a little shy at first but warms up very quickly. He is very playful and cuddly. Once he gets to know you he won’t want to leave your side. He is definitely a velcro dog and an oversized lap dog!  He is great with other dogs and enjoys zooming around the yard with his foster siblings. He loves toys so he would like to have a home with another canine sibling that is able to share with him. He does good with car rides and loves going for walks. We are not sure about cats.   Rowdy is potty trained and crate trained. He could use some work on his house manners (jumping) and is quickly learning basic commands.  He is very smart and willing to learn especially when there are treats involved!  He just wants all the love and attention! He is pretty energetic but does have an off switch when you just want to chill out in the house.  Rowdy will need an adopter who is dedicated to continuing training and socialization as well as providing physical and mental stimulation daily. Rowdy prefers a fenced in yard to run around in. Because of his size and energy, Rowdy would do best with children over 10 years old. Rowdy is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative and receiving monthly preventatives for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  Proof of heartworms for any prior or current pets is required to adopt from our rescue. NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org ##2171496##

Story
Woody (now called Frodo) is fostered in Sioux City, Iowa. Drum roll please!!!  Introducing the cutest, handsomest boi Frodo!!!!  This 38lb black tri standard Australian Shepherd LOVES to snuggle up, get belly rubs, play and run around the yard. Frodo has a lot of energy, as is expected from a young Australian Shepherd. Our vet estimates that he is between 2-3 years old. Frodo is quite agile and can clears the foot kitchen gate without hesitation; can we say agility prospect? He is now learning to respect the 3+ foot gate. Frodo previously lived in a small apartment with two large dogs and did not receive enough exercise or training.  He is learning SOOOO quickly in his foster home!  He is eager to please his person, especially when he is rewarded for doing the right thing. He knows a few commands, such as ‘sit’, ‘shake’, ‘off’, and ‘kennel’. It took him just one day to learn ‘shake’, so he is intelligent and capable of learning. He is still learning good manners, so he does require an adopter who is committed to continuing his training.   Frodo is housebroken and has never had an accident in the house. Frodo loves taking long sniff walks and generally doesn’t pull on the leash. He does not react to other dogs while on the leash – nor to the neighborhood opossum he encounters on the nightly walks. He would love to chase the rabbits, but he understands ‘no’ and will not go crazy on the leash. Like most Aussies, Frodo eats everything and is especially fond of fruits and vegetables – tomatoes, apples, peppers, broccoli – all these are treats! Luckily, he has not figured out that these he could eat them straight from the garden. Are you a gardener with too many fruits and veggies?  He can help with that!!! Frodo is a bit reserved at first – both with other dogs as well as people. He has learned that meeting new people comes with cookies and yummy treats.  He warms up to women quitckly but takes his time with men, probably because of something he experienced in his past. He gets along fabulously with his foster brother another Aussie, who is an easy-going submissive dog. Frodo gets along great with cats. The resident cat was completely ignored during his first week in the foster home, but Frodo has now joined the resident dog in occasional cat chasing. The resident cat is OK with that though. As much as Frodo likes to play with his dog friend, he would probably be OK as an only dog because he is very human-oriented. He is a typical Velcro dog who joins his people everywhere – including the bathroom. He also takes guarding the house seriously and barks at suspicious things like the mailman and that pesky squirrel that comes to sit on the porch. He is comfortable in his kennel and sleeps in it throughout the night – although he would prefer to sleep in the human bed if he could. Frodo also loves car rides and behaves himself well in public spaces.  Frodo is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and receiving monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworm preventatives.  Plus he is 100% certifiably adorable. Needs: A home with a secure, fenced-in yard A dedicated owner to continue his training An active household without small children that will be able to handle an energetic pup Wants: Someone who will snuggle Someone who will give all the pets possible Someone to take him on long walks Interested in this cutiepie? Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org. Story
Koda is being fostered in Salem WI Jolly Boy Koda! Koda is an energetic, approximately 4-year-old, 50-pound blue merle bob tail Australian Shepherd boy. Who could resist those beautiful eyes and cute head tilts? Koda is more than just handsome, he has a great personality. Koda has all the qualities of being playful, loving and energetic. Koda is always looking for love and affection. There is no such thing as personal space! Koda would spend every hour of the day with his person, if he could, loving on them and being loved on. Though if he needs to have his own space, he does great in crates and in a fenced in yard. Koda also takes his attention off people when he has other dog friends to play with. He's a bit of a bubbly athlete. He is always happy to run around and play. Running outside in the yard is one of his favorite things. Koda does need some extra practice on the leash.  Anything stimulating and engaging are great for this energetic boy. Koda is very smart, he has great recall, knows “sit”, crate trained and potty trained. Koda is always willing to learn more. Fortunately, he takes his cue from his person and responds well to direction. Koda is also very food motivated and will do anything for food! He would probably be AUSSOME at a dog sport or even doing tricks!  Koda can be a bit of a fast eater, so a slow feeder would be best to prepare meals in. He has good house manners. He does well in his crate and sleeps in it at night and when no-one is home.  With some time to get used to a new environment and bonding with his family, he will be able to spend more time out of his crate alone or with his folks at night. Koda has been friendly with cats and will occasionally show interest by running up to them to say HELLO! Koda is ready to keep learning and find his forever humans. He’s an Aussie looking for a confident coach to lead him into the best years of his life. He came to us after his previous home recognized that they were not capable of meeting the needs of a typical dynamic, spirited Australian Shepherd. Mental and physical stimulation and continued socialization will unlock all Koda's best qualities. Active folks who love Aussie awesomeness will compliment Koda well. He is the dog for someone with an energetic lifestyle who sees a pup as a family member to bring along and hang out with.  What is Koda seeking in his Forever Home?  Koda's person(s) should be active, have herding dog or similar breed experience and confidence to meet the needs and the traits of an Aussie. They see continued training and a lifetime of engaging their dog as a natural part of having a canine family member. Koda prefers a fence, but it may not be necessary for the right active, experienced home. Koda would welcome another dog about his size who appreciates his style of play.  Introductions with new people, places, and pets MUST be slow and monitored.  Does this jolly boy make your heart burst with joy? The first step is to fill out an application at the link below to be considered as a possible adopter. (Only COMPLETELY answered applications will be considered.)  Read the bio carefully. Priority is given to the pup's needs in choosing the adopter to ensure a happy forever. MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org ##2217257##

Story
Shimmer (now called Luna) is fostered in St. Peters, MO (STL MO area).   Please meet the beautiful Shimmer, now called Luna by her foster family.  She is an approximately 3-year-old black tri female Australian Shepherd. She currently weighs about 40 lbs.  She is shy and timid at first but loves to be close to her person; a constant companion following you from room to room.  Prior to rescue, Shimmer was running free in a neighborhood in mid-Missouri and once contained, no owner came forward for her so she landed in a shelter.   Shimmer is learning all things about living in a home.  She is always ready for a walk or a car ride. She can be a little demanding if you stop petting her.  Somewhat funny, but she truly is afraid of sneezes. She will run away if a human sneezes.  She is being fostered with two other female dogs and plays well with them. She loves her walks, but still needs work a bit on walking etiquette with pulling if she smells something good. Shimmer's past is unknown, and for that reason, it has left her very skittish with noises so she will need an adopter that will provide some patience and extra understanding. Shimmer has been known to play with dog toys by herself, throwing them up in the air over and over again. She also likes to play fetch the ball with her foster dad and loves to de-stuff dog toys. Shimmer is houe trained and crate trained, but prefers not to be confined.  When left alone in the house without a crate, she has been known to counter surf and help herself to things she shouldn't but her foster home is working on this.  In her foster home, she does have access to a dog door and a fenced yard.  We do recommend a physically fenced yard for her. Shimmer would also best in a quieter home without children under age 12. Shimmer is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all vaccinations.  She is also receiving monthly preventatives for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  If you have what Shimmer needs, please visit our website to find out information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application. www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org ##2182294##
