Story
Name: Bert Breed: Australian Shepherd Mix Weight: 44 pounds Age: Adult - maybe a very spry senior – he’s not giving away that secret! Rescue: Albert’s Dog Lounge Current Location: Madison, WI Housetrained: yes Crate trained: yes – I love my crate - I sleep and eat there! Bert, or Bertski, or Bertrand, had a not so great past marked by neglect, inadequate food, and minimal human/dog interaction. He’s done with that part of his life and is ready to move on to his best life where he can shower his humans with love, go on outdoor adventures, and sleep on soft warm beds! Things Bert needs/likes: A human/s with experience with working breed dogs. This is a must. Bert is experiencing a lot of new things all at once. He needs structure and guidance from someone who understands the intelligence and drive of these dogs. Bert is curious, smart, and loving. The effort spent training will be paid back in years of unconditional love.. A fenced yard. Bert’s an active boy and needs some safe space to stretch those legs. Snuggling. In addition to being an outdoor enthusiast Bert is a master snuggler. Other dogs after slow introductions. Adult humans with active lifestyles. Going on hikes and long walks. Private dog parks so he can kick out his jams without worrying about those dogs he doesn’t know. Things Bert dislikes/needs to avoid: Picking up: Bert cannot be picked up. He turns into a possessed demon if you levitate him off the ground. This is manageable with a basket muzzle. Bert’s fosters are working on counter training so this might be a thing of the past soon! Kids any age are a no-go. It’s not that Bert doesn’t like them, he likes everybody. But his personality can be too much for the kiddos. Public dog parks – these are way too stimulating. Cats are too exciting for Bert. He doesn’t leave them alone and has paid the price for this pestering. Behavioral considerations: Leash walking: Bert must be walked with a harness. He had an embedded collar when he arrived in rescue. We don’t want to put pressure on his throat/neck. He also pulls on his walks initially, calming down after the initial excitement. Car rides: Bert happily jumps in the car. He can’t wait to see where he might be going! Because of that excitement, he paces if left in the back unrestrained. He prefers to ride in style calming in a crate. “Strange things” on the street: Bert doesn’t seem to know about city noises and activity. He may bark at people on the sidewalk and strange dogs, but he stops when you remind him that his humans will keep him and the house safe. Taking treats: food is so, so good. Bert gets excited by even the most boring treats (I’ve tried Charlie Bears – trust me, they are not great). He tries to put treats in his mouth as fast as possible in case they disappear. He is learning how to take treats gently and like everything else he is learning, he’s getting better every day. Impulse control: Bert can get overstimulated quickly. This is most likely from spending much of his life living outside without much human/canine interaction – okay, he had a dog buddy on the property he was taken from, but that is the only dog he ever interacted with before being rescued (he’s a little awkward). If you have experience with working breed dogs, love to train and build a bond with your best friend, love to hike and snuggle in equal measures, this fun loving, loveable, funny boy might just be the one for you! Neutered Microchipped Housebroken Crate trained UTD on vaccinations UTD on preventatives Good in a car Albert's Dog Lounge is a specialty rescue focusing primarily on senior and special needs dogs. Our process includes an approved application, reference checks, a homevisit, and then a meet and greet with the dog. Adoption fee is $350, ($600 for a pair). Story
Sunny is a bright, sensitive soul that seems to love everyone she meets. She currently lives with other dogs, has lived with dog savvy cats and children. She will smile at you when she meets you or if she is somewhat embarrassed. While she would love to adventure with you most anywhere (long hikes, rides in the car, a good run, traveling, etc.)she is also game to curl up next to you at the end of the day for hugs and gentle kisses. Sunny tends towards submissive and very respectful to her canine friends. She would love to learn as much as you can teach her and is a quick study. And while she will happily jump up next to you on a couch or bed, she will not (to date) jump even an 18` high baby gate. She is crate trained, but safe to leave out. House trained. Has great recall to her name, as long as she hasn`t been cooped up too long. Her hearing then becomes selective until she burns some energy. She has NOT shown signs of herding. She will hunt and track squirrels through the tree tops, and if anything runs, she`ll be after it. She does know leave it, sit, come, down, off and a few other commandsYou can also watch for stories, pictures and videos about me on our Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/JrsPupsNStuffInc Ask to meet me today!! Story
Bentley is fostered in Pleasonton, KS. Meet Bentley.  Bentley was surrendered to us when his owner had some medical issues and was unable to continue caring for him.  Bentley came in a little under-socialized and slightly overweight. Bentley is 3 year old male Australian Shepherd mix who is working towards his ideal weight of approximately 50 lbs.   Bentley needs a hero.  Bentley previously spent great deal of time in his crate.  For this reason, he did not receive proper socialization. Socialization is something his foster home has diligently been working on with him.  She has been de-sensitizing him to many things, including leash walking, grooming, other dogs and other people.  Bentley previously experienced some fears in some area, but he really has put in a lot of work and he is making wonderful progress in all areas.   Bentley is a low-key guy who is looking for an adopter who enjoys the same type of lifestyle. He prefers a home where there are less comings and goings.  We also recommend a physically fenced yard and a home that is both patient and has no children under age 12.  Bentley is a talker. The more you talk to him, the more he expresses his feelings.  Bentley is what we term a "work in progress", but he is the type of dog that will quickly become your best friend once trust is gained between you.  Are you looking for your new best friend? Bentley is neutered, up-to-date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and receiving monthly preventatives for fleas, ticks and heartworms.  Proof of heartworm prevention for any current or previous pets is required to adopt from our organization.  For more information on our adoption process or to complete an adoption application, please visit our website at www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org. NOTE:  All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers so we need an approved application on file to set up a meet with a dog you might have an interest in.  Please visit our website for more information on our adoption process, our adoption fees and a link to our adoption application.  We pride ourselves on matches that work for both the dog and your family.  MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org ##2407689##

Story
Ella (formerly called Bella) is fostered in Sioux City, IA Meet Miss Ella Girl – a handsome black and tan Aussie lady with a full fluffy tail!  Ella was dropped off in the shelter by someone who claimed to have found her – but turned out to be her owner who had abused her for four years. The timid girl was thin, sick and afraid of everything but was looking for love. When we brought her home, she jumped on the couch right away and tried to be a lap dog.  Ella is a 4 year old female Australian Shepherd with a gorgeous tail.  Despite her history, Ella loves people, other dogs, and cats.  Now at 50 pounds, Ella has put on some weight, gained confidence, and is now spayed. She loves to snuggle, get belly rubs, and play in the yard with other dogs. She is still timid about some things. she eyes the hairbrush with much distrust but has learned to enjoy some brushing. She does not like her paws touched too much, but doesn't fuss about nail trim and has learned (somewhat reluctantly) to shake a paw and receive a treat.   Ella goes to kennel willingly but does not like to have the kennel door closed. She is intelligent and learns fast, so further training will come easily.  Ella is housebroken and has never had an accident in the house. She loves to take walks and is great on the leash.  She is not destructive in the home, but may occasional consider counter surfing. She is a real cuddler and would like to sleep in the bed with people but is also OK sleeping in her own bed or on the couch. Like most Aussies, Ella eats everything and is especially fond of vegetables – cabbage, cucumbers, broccoli – all these are treats! Luckily, he has not figured out that these he could eat them straight from the garden. He also loves trash – especially plastic. Shee won’t eat it, but she loves to chew it – bottle caps, chapstick, pens, and such. Ella can be a bit timid when first when meeting new people but warms up to them quite fast. (Treats help!). Ella loves to play with other dogs and gets along well with the other two resident Aussies. Sometimes the play gets rambunctious and loud because Ella does love to bark!  She can get a little snappy during play, but a calm correction of “no teeth” and shewill back off. Because of this, she is probably not the best fit with little children. Ella loves cats – and usually does not chase them - most of the time the resident cat is ignored.  She has done great on car rides.  We also recommend a physically fenced yard with an adopter who will continue the training and love she has received in her foster home.  She is 100% certifiably adorable. Ella needs: A home with a secure, fenced-in yard A dedicated owner to lover her, give her confidence, and continue her training Ella Wants: Someone who will snuggle and rub her belly and take him out for walks Ella is spayed, microchipped, up-to-date on all vaccinations and receiving monthly prevention for fleas, ticks and heartworms. She does require a committed adopter who is willing to devote 1 - 2 hours of mental and physical stimulation per day. MASR is here for your support, advice and safety net for our dogs for the remainder of their lives.  www.MidwestAustralianShepherdRescue.org ##2510770##
