Story
Meet Rio! We believe Rio would be best suited in a single-dog household where he can keep up with his owner's energetic lifestyle! To meet one of our adoptable pets or to start the adoption process, please access the adoption application on our website, www.crossroadsanimalrescue.org or download and email it to crossroadsanimalrescuesc@gmail.com. We will then approve you (sending in the application does not obligate you to adopt) and we can set up a time for you to meet one or more of our pets. You can then pay the adoption fee and officially adopt after meeting your new family member. Alternatively, you can do the adoption over the phone before meeting your new pet. The benefit to this is that we will hold the pet for you. However, the adoption fee is non-refundable if you changed your mind after adopting over the phone. Most of our pets are obtained from animal control and therefore we are not certain of their breed or breed mix. We list breed mixes that they most resemble or that their former owners said they were. However, we don't make any guarantees about breed - it is a best guess! Our adoption fees include the spay/neuter surgery, deworming, vet exam, and up to date vaccines. It also includes microchipping as well as heartworm testing or feline leukemia testing. We are happy to adopt out-of-state (and even out of the country!) but transportation for the adopted pet is the responsibility of the new pet owner. If you cannot adopt a pet at this time but would like to support our rescue, please click on the "Sponsor a Pet" button. Your donation will help feed the dogs, cats, small animals, and horses at CARE. Please email at crossroadsanimalrescuesc@gmail.com or call us at (864)972-9906 for more information. This phone number will reach Crossroads Animal Hospital, which is the home of CARE. During business hours, a receptionist will be able to speak with you regarding our adoptable pets. After business hours, the only way to contact CARE is via email. Our puppies and kittens are also eligible for 10% off the rest of the vaccines in their puppy/kitten vaccination series at Crossroads Animal Hospital. Most adult pets are spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Puppies and kittens may have the surgery before adoption or we may have new owners return later for the surgery. For more information about CARE and to see our adoption application, go to our website, www.crossroadsanimalrescue.org

Story
Valley Girl. This little girl is the sweetest. Initially found as a stray, Valley was facing euthanasia as she was so scared in the shelter environment. You ought to see her run and play with the other dogs now! Valley may be shy initially but once you've earned her trust, she's a joyful, happy, funny, silly, sweet affectionate pup. Potential adopters will need to come and spend time with her on multiple occasions, but it will be so worth it. All it takes is a little patience to reap her as your incredible reward. Valley loves other dogs and is good with cats. She does need a fenced-in yard as although she loves to explore on quiet wooded trails, she thrives in a well-known, stable environment. Valley is approximately 4 yrs. old and 35 lbs. She's the perfect sized pooch! Want more info on Valley Girl? We don't blame you a bit. Don't call! Go to: www.AlmostHomeDogRescueNC.com to submit your no-cost/ no-obligation adoption application. An Adoption Coach will then reach out by phone to tell you all about this special girl. Story
Meet Sargent This handsome boy was surrendered by his soldier daddy. When leaving he mentioned in passing that Sargent doesn’t like confined spaces. Sadly, nearly five years later, Sargent is in exactly that - the confines of a concrete kennel. We love this boy so much, but the shelter life is taking a toll on him. He needs a second chance desperately. Sargent is nearly six years old now. He’s thought to be a Boxer/Australian Shepherd mix. He’s a handsome boy with a tan and white coat and one brown and one partial blue eye. His ears are expressive and he looks at you as if he knows what you’re saying. Sargent is on the bigger side weighing 72 pounds. Sargent is a calm and relaxed dog when he’s in the play yards. He loves the fresh air, feeling the grass under his paws and the sun on his face. You can just see him relax. We give him as much time outside as we can. Sargent seems to be house-broken. He’s smart and knows some commands like sit and shake. Sargent has a lot of energy and will enjoy being part of an active family that’s able to keep his body and mind going. Sargent has a high prey drive. He’ll need to be an only pet to start. Time away and hooman bonding to decompress could change that. For his new family though it will be best to let him go at his own pace after all he’s been through. Sargent seems to be afraid of men when he meets them initially. He likes women though. For the person or family interested in Sargent, a few visits may be necessary for him to feel safe. Sargent fears stressful situations and that’s exactly what he’s in. Sargent wasn’t expecting the turn that his life took. He’s hanging in there, but we know it’s not easy on him. If you’re looking for a wonderful companion dog to welcome into your family, come meet Sargent. If interested in giving Sargent a soft landing, please submit a dog application online at www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org Please call our shelter at 706-865-4135 or email us at smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net to let us know to be on the lookout. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals. Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are either owner relinquished rescued from area Animal Controls or high kill shelters. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.
