Story
From his foster: “Ralphie – Your Adventure Co-Star1 year old | 48 lbs | Australian Shepherd MixRalphie is the kind of dog who forms deep bonds and wants to truly be part of your life. He’s intelligent, expressive, and athletic — a classic working-breed mix who thrives when he has structure, purpose, and connection. At one year old, and still figuring out the world, he can be sensitive in new situations and has shown some fear-based reactivity in the past. The good news? With structure and training, he has been making wonderful progress and building confidence every single day. He is looking for experienced, steady leadership to help him continue that upward trajectory. He would do best in:• An adult-only home (no young children)• An active household that enjoys walks, hikes, and enrichment• A secure yard (he’s athletic and curious!)• A home with breed experience and commitment to continued training  Ralphie would enjoy a compatible canine companion to share playtime and energy with, but he would also be perfectly happy as your one and only, building a strong, devoted bond Ralphie bonds deeply and loves being close to his person. He’s affectionate, loyal, incredibly silly and smart. Orange County adopters receive FREE lifetime private & group training support with Sit Means Sit, giving you professional guidance for life. For someone who appreciates a smart, devoted dog and enjoys the journey of building trust and confidence together — Ralphie will be an extraordinary companion.” RALPHIE is a 1 year old, 41.5 lbs., male Australian Shepherd mix that came into the Orange County shelter as a stray on 12/16/2025 from the City of Orange. His owner hasn't shown up to claim him and take him home. RALPHIE was brought into the shelter on a catch pole. He was biting the pole, so his mouth was bloody upon intake. Shelter notes say he was more fearful than aggressive. In his kennel, RALPHIE is more interested in treats than toys. He seems to want to engage with staff but is extremely overwhelmed by all the noise and chaos going on around him. On 12/20/2025, RALPHIE was taken out of his kennel: * 12/20/2025: At front of kennel today during morning cleaning. Opened kennel door, RALPHIE laid down and allowed leashing. Opened kennel door wide, dog urinated then dashed out, pausing and freezing in between short bursts of dashing. Noise level of bldg 1 rose significantly after we walked out of kennel, dog continued dashing and displaying increasingly frantic behavior. Able to quickly coax him out of bldg, defecating as we walked. Dog froze and laid down outside of bldg 1, flopping on his side. Leaned against brick wall while slightly crouched ~3ft away sideways to him and allowed him to decompress. After about ~30 seconds, dog glanced at me; I avoided eye contact and kept face parallel to him. Noticed him stand up and crawl towards me. Kept still. Dog then dashed past me and began thrashing on leash, anxious whining, flailing and flipping himself on leash in attempts to remove leash pressure. Used paws to attempt to pull leash away. Attempted to guide hand with him to ease leash pressure, dog continued flipping and flailing. Dog began chewing through leather leash quickly. ACAs saw and quickly opened doors as I walked him back. Dog continued flailing and attempting to chew through leash, noticed several large holes in leash as he chewed. Dog became frantic and dashed towards staff and myself in walkway, unsure if he was charging or attempting to minimize leash pressure. Able to place him back in kennel with leash attached. RALPHIE has displayed moments of curiosity and seemingly affiliative engagement in kennel with staff. However, this behavior does not generalize beyond in kennel. When removed from kennel, RALPHIE demonstrates a marked increase in stress related behaviors, indicating that exposure to the shelter environment exceed his capability to self-soothe and regulate. Attempts at handling out of kennel result in extreme fear responses, including intense fixation on fleeing by: chewing through leather leash, flailing and attempting to pull the leash off, defecating and urinating. Due to RALPHIE'S inability to tolerate routine handling, he will not be considered for public adoption. We are recommending placement with rescue only.             ##2622392##

Story
Looking for a professional lap warmer who doubles as your new favorite road trip co-pilot? Penny Chai is ready to claim her forever spot preferably right on top of you! Penny is a herding breed so we would love to find a family who is familiar with that. It’ll be best that there are no young children in the household because she does have herding tendencies with small children specifically. She will be the most loving dog you have ever known. A very best friend. She’s the most loving dog in the world. Penny is the kind of girl who takes a minute to warm up and then suddenly you realize she’s chosen you as her person. When she feels safe, she blossoms into the sweetest companion: affectionate, loyal, and always close by. She doesn’t need the spotlight; she just wants to be near her humans. Penny is the perfect little adventure buddy. Long walks, patio cafés, community events, or shopping trips. She is ready to tag along and quietly win hearts wherever she goes. She may start a little shy, but when she chooses you, it’s forever. Penny Chai has a way of making people smile wherever she goes watch her video https://youtu.be/IPeR9y8lIqQ At just 1 year old and 19 lbs., we believe Penny Chai is a Mini Aussie mix. Of course, she’s a rescue so while we can’t guarantee breed or age, this isn’t a wild guess, just an educated observation based on her look and traits. She’s on the smaller side, making her easy to walk, easy to travel with, and easy to scoop into the car for spontaneous outings. Compact, manageable, and full of love Penny is the perfect size for both everyday adventures and cozy nights in. Penny is a huge lap dog in the best way possible. She truly believes personal space is optional and will happily curl up right on you for movie nights, quiet mornings, or anytime you sit down. She loves being part of your everyday routine whether that’s hanging out at home, going for peaceful walks, or riding along for an adventure. happily, be your walking buddy, training partner, and everyday sidekick. She enjoys roaming the yard but checks in often and loves having direction. She’s treat motivated (which makes training fun and rewarding!) and would thrive with someone who enjoys engaging her smart, working-breed brain. Penny is currently in foster and has done well in that environment. She is kennel trained, settles nicely, and rides wonderfully in the car. In fact, she loves car rides and would happily be your co-pilot. Beach day? She’s in. Weekend getaway? She’s ready. She would do best in a home with older kids (12+) who can match her calm, respectful vibe. She enjoys being part of the family and thrives with gentle interactions. Penny would do best in a home with no other animals. While she is perfectly fine passing other dogs on walks and being around them in public, she would truly prefer a home where she can be the one and only. After a rough start to life, Penny feels safest and most secure when she doesn’t have to share her space. A calm home where all the love and attention is just for her will allow her to relax, build confidence, and truly blossom into the very best version of herself. Penny could thrive in a home with a yard where she can explore and stretch her legs, but she could also do beautifully in an apartment as long as she gets regular walks and enrichment. She’s the kind of dog who bonds deeply, loves structure, and truly blossoms with guidance. As she settles in, you may notice a few classic Aussie-style quirks which really just means she’s smart, sensitive, and happiest when she has a “job,” even if that job is simply being your loyal little shadow. Young, vibrant, and incredibly devoted, Penny will be a beautiful addition to many different types of homes. Whether she joins a family with another dog or becomes your one and only, she’ll remind you every single day how much our hearts need the simple, steady companionship of an adoring dog. She’s ready and waiting for her forever home. If you’re ready for a smart, loyal companion who just needs a little time to shine, Penny is waiting. Story
Fluffy booty, friendly nature, and farm-girl manners... Mitzi has the looks and the heart! This girl is the kind of dog who makes a very strong first impression and then somehow gets even better the more you get to know her. She is affectionate, social, easy to live with, and clearly very proud of her talents, which include being adorable on a couch, charming every person she meets, and fitting right in with a full cast of animals. Go watch her in action on YouTube then come right back to read more, because Mitzi is every bit as lovable as she sounds. https://youtu.be/CnSNJQjijrg Mitzi is estimated to be just over a year old and weighs 46 lbs. As for breed? Maybe a little German Shepherd, some Australian Shepherd, maybe a little flat-coated retriever… or maybe just 100% cute. With rescue, breed and birthday are always our best guess, but her personality is the part we know for sure, and it is a good one. Mitzi is being fostered in a loving home and absolutely shining!. She lives with dogs big and small, cats, chickens, ducks, geese, and even a donkey, which really tells you a lot about how adaptable and well-rounded she is. Her foster has nothing but praise for her, and it is easy to see why. She is house trained, crate trained, and has the kind of house manners that make settling in with her feel easy. With people, Mitzi is all heart. She has never met a stranger and opens up quickly with new people. She is affectionate in that very sincere, happy-to-know-you kind of way, rolling onto her back for pets and then popping right back up for more. She is also wonderfully people-focused. Out in the yard she checks in often and once the day winds down, she is more than ready to cash in on cuddle time. Sit down on the couch and she is likely to hop right up and join you with closeness and belly rubs in mind. Around other dogs, Mitzi is social and respectful. She greets nicely, shares space well, and has shown lovely manners with both male and female dogs. She is playful but undoubtedly prefers dogs that are playful but not chaotic or pushy. She is thoughtful around pushy higher-energy dogs and choses to take herself out of the play and check in with her people. Very polite and well mannered! We love seeing that quality- when unsure she looks to her person for reassurance and values that steadiness. In her foster home, her favorite playmate is a fellow foster dog and they love to run around the yard together. We think she would do especially well with a medium-energy dog who matches her style. Mitzi also has the kind of versatility that opens up a lot of home options. She could absolutely thrive in a farm setting thanks to her comfort around livestock and birds, but she could also do very well with an active person in a home or apartment who enjoys walks, outings, and then a good exhale back at home. She has youthful energy to her, so she will be happiest with someone who enjoys getting out and about a bit, then coming back in for quiet time and couch company. On leash, Mitzi has the basics down, is easy to walk, and is already very handler focused, which gives her such a nice foundation. She is the kind of dog who is just happy to be included in whatever you are doing together and that goes a long way. Mitzi feels like such a special mix of fun, softness, and everyday ease. Friendly with people, kind with animals, respectful in the home, and always ready to turn downtime into cuddle time, she has all the makings of a truly wonderful companion. If you are looking for a dog who can join you for some fresh air, fit beautifully into home life, and then curl up beside you like she has always belonged there, Mitzi is your girl! Story
Meet Dutch🤎, a stunningly handsome and charming almost 2-year-old boy with a rich, chocolate-brown coat and captivating blue eyes that sparkle with kindness🥰. This loving boy was welcomed into a wonderful family in the San Diego area about 8 months ago. Initially, Dutch was more reserved and fearful when rescued from the shelter, but with time, he blossomed into a confident companion for his family, except for the husband, around whom he seems anxious and stressed. Despite the husband's patient and loving approach, Dutch remains wary, prompting his family to consider finding a new home where he can thrive without fear. With his current family, Dutch has formed strong bonds with the wife and kids, who adore him dearly, but they've come to realize that a woman-only household might be the perfect solution for Dutch to live a stress-free life. His family believes Dutch may have had a negative experience with a man in the past, which has led to his hesitation around men unless they exhibit familiar characteristics. Importantly, Dutch has never shown aggression and is great with cats and other dogs, making him an excellent addition to any household. He's potty-trained, crate-trained, and loves spending time in his crate and bed. Dutch is neutered, vaccinated, and chipped, and his current family is heartbroken but hopeful that he'll find a loving home🏡 where he can receive all the love and care he deserves. If you're thinking of adding a loving companion to your family and believe you'd be the perfect match for Dutch, get your application in ASAP! This gorgeous boy will undoubtedly capture your heart💗with his loving nature.😻 Currently being cared for in Southern California, Dutch can be transported to northern states such as Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, or other locations within the continental United States, where a loving family awaits to welcome him.
