Story
Meet Clyde! Male, 1 to 2 years old mix Clyde is about as perfect as they come! He is great with dogs, cats, and kids. He’s a mellow and laid back guy. He’s happy just to be next to you. Clyde will need a secure fence or an adopter that can commit to walking him on a leash. His foster describes him as the most docile dog they’ve ever met. The vet’s estimate is that he is about 1 to 2 years old but his puppy energy is long gone. He just wants to cuddle and be loved. He’s a big boy but thinks he’s a lap dog! He’s adjusting very well at his foster home, is house-trained, and is learning to kennel while his foster is away. If interested in Clyde, fill out an adoption app at www.phpdr.org. We do not respond to inquires on Adopt-a-Pet.

Story
Audie is a sweet pup, only 3 years old! Her previous owners surrendered her to the shelter due to changes in the home that no longer made their home suitable for Audie. Audie is so sweet and loving with humans of all kinds, but she can be weary of young dogs that want to be in her face and mess with her things. She does well with older dogs that allow her the personal space she needs. She has experience with children in the home and has done great! She has never had any issues with kiddos! However, a home without children would likely be a better fit for Audie so that she can relax and feel completely carefree in her new home. Meet Audie today by appointment only.

These pups are in Columbia, Missouri too!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.  A Mo-Kan application must be filled out to begin the process.   Meet Suzi, a charming black and white Border Collie mix, weighing around 40 lbs. She's a true people lover, always ready for affection and cuddles. Suzi enjoys a variety of things and activities such as playing tug, soft squeaky toys, going on walks, frozen peanut butter filled kongs, hard chews, licky mats, snuffle mats, dog puzzles, soft foam dog beds (and maybe a fuzzy one for her head), belly rubs, and giving kisses. She's potty trained and kennel trained, though she'd rather be by your side.  She is great with kids. Suzi has a bit of a prey drive, so she's not suited for homes with small animals. Suzi would be best with an easy going, playful dog or fine as a solo dog.  She will need proper introduction to other dogs. She's actively learning commands and tricks (sit, lie down, come, wait, here, get it, give it, leave it, place, here, spin, twirl, touch, hide, roll over, crawl and catch) and is eager to please for treats or toys. Suzi is intelligent, inquisitive, and knows when to relax. If you're seeking a Border Collie's intelligence, beauty, and loyalty without the high energy, Suzi is your ideal match. She requires a fenced yard and someone knowledgeable about her breed. She's spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. Suzi is currently in foster care in Manhattan, KS.Click here to watch a video of Suzi.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 6, 2025, 11:34 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.  A Mo-Kan application must be filled out to begin the process.   Alexa (nicknamed Roo) is ready to find her forever family! She and her brother, Ziggy, went from strays to squatters (at a very nice, caring farm) to temporary foster care to their current residence in long-term foster homes. During this time, she experienced what we assume to be many “firsts” for her - vet visits, walks on a leash, baths, car rides, and crating, just to name a few. She is a very sweet and playful girl who is eager to learn. Some of the things Alexa has been enjoying in her foster home: training, toys, walks, rides, playing with her foster sister, and being outside.  She is well-behaved in the house but prefers to spend more time outdoors than indoors. Alexa is working on her leash manners and crate training. She has not been cat or kid tested. She is shy/timid when meeting new people, which is understandable given her history as a stray. Once she gets comfortable with you, though, she will be your best buddy. She has no problem initiating playtime at home, is always excited to see her foster mom, and likes to cuddle up on the couch at night when she’s burned off her energy. Alexa enjoys being busy (whether that be mental or physical stimulation), so an active home with a yard and another younger, playful dog would be best. She may also be a good candidate for dog sports with her energy level and eagerness to learn. Alexa would benefit from a home with Border Collie experience as she does possess many traits of this breed. She is still learning what it’s like to be a “dog” but has come so far already! Her forever family will need to be patient and willing to help her build confidence and be comfortable in her new home. This sweet girl has lots of potential and so much love to give! If you think you are the right family for her, fill out an application on our website. Alexa is being fostered in the Ames, IA area.Click here to watch a video of Alexa.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 16, 2025, 10:58 am

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in adopting, read about our Adoption Process and complete an Adoption Application on the Mo-Kan website.  A Mo-Kan application must be filled out to begin the process.   If you are interested in a medium to high energy, food and play motivated, loving, smart, goofy pup, look no further than Lucy!  This 6 month old mini Aussie (best guess) is a delight and will bring joy and laughter into your home.  She is currently being fostered on a sheep farm and enjoys watching, and sometimes trying to herd, the sheep.  Lucy loves to play with her people and her favorite resident dog, 10 year old Dan.  She will need lots of physical exercise and mental stimulation, several times a day.  She and Dan run zoomies in the backyard and never seem to get enough.  She is great on a leash, so walks will be fun.  Lucy really enjoys her toys, whether her people are playing fetch or tug, or she is simply playing with them on her own.  She is great about focusing on toys and is not destructive.  Lucy likes puzzle toys, although is able to solve them quickly.  The most recent toy, a two-tier puzzle, said it would take the dog several tries to master it and to start with just one tier.  Lucy had both tiers solved in under a minute.  No challenge at all.  This pup also loves to jump!  Over logs, furniture, other dogs, she will fly over anything.  With her intelligence and athleticism, she would make a super agility or fly ball dog.  Lucy also has a nice off switch, being able to hang out quietly with a toy or cuddle up for a nap.  She sleeps through the night with no disruptions.  Lucy loves adventures and people.   She has made friends with people at the local feed store and farm store, prancing in like she owns the world.  Visitors to the farm are greeted with much enthusiasm.  Lucy rides nicely in the truck, so road trips are a definite possibility for this little one. She is kennel trained, but it is not her favorite pastime.  Lucy would really like her own pack of older, considerate kids, eight and up, and a companion dog.   Because of her natural herding instinct, she may try to herd and nip at very small children.  She is housebroken, and a quick learner.  Lucy has fairly good recall, although may need coaxing to come inside if she feels she still has go power.  Lucy has not been cat tested, but given the way she accepts correction from the other dogs, she will probably be polite to a cat who gives her a good swat on the nose. Lucy’s words:  joy, happiness, intelligent, energetic, sweet, cuddly, silly, goofy, obedient, funny, PERFECT! Lucy is being fostered in the Kansas City area.Click here to watch a video of Lucy (2024).Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.February 25, 2025, 6:29 pm
