Sophie and James, a devoted brother and sister duo, are ready to thrive in a new home. After their owner's passing, they were sent to live with relatives who couldn't provide the care they deserved. We stepped in to give them a second chance, bringing their vet care up to date and providing a senior blood panel and dental care. Sophie is a vibrant, loving soul who adores belly rubs and rolling over. James, a laid-back gentleman, enjoys gentle pets and navigates his surroundings with remarkable adaptability despite his cataracts. We're eager to find them a forever home where they can flourish in their golden years. Will you be their beacon of hope and love?

Adoptions are NOT first come, first served! We seek to choose the best fit for the approved adopter and pet. Please understand that these animals are still new to us and their needs and requirements can change at any time as we learn more about them. We will try our best to get them updated online as soon as possible. All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws. All dogs are also microchipped. Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization. The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.

Story
This is Taz! He's a 1.5 years old, 40 pound, Aussie/Golden mix. He has the cutest, little nub tail! Taz is a really fun outdoorsy boy! He'll make someone a great hiking, riding, traveling buddy. Taz wants to be your Ride-or-Die Dog!! The staff introduced him to cats today. He was VERY curious but a little confused so over time and with a well behaved, respectful cat he’d be okay! Taz was one of the dogs transferred to NCAS from Van Buren Animal Control due to their extremely overcrowded conditions. Our shelter was honored to help out another shelter! The adoption fee for dogs is $90. This fee includes spay/neuter, deworming, heartworm test, rabies, Bordetella & DHLPP shots, flea & tick treatment and license (for Newaygo County residents).
