SHERLOCK SHERLOCK is a 1-year-old male, catahoula/cattle dog mix but that's just the start! You want to take a guess at the "mix" piece? Whatever you guess, you'll be right as there are no less than 17 in this happy little body! (how about Beagle, Cocker Spaniel, St. Bernard, Boxer, Chihuahua and the list goes on!!) He is full grown and weighs 45 lbs so the big and the little balanced each other out! SHERLOCK is very outgoing, and good with other dogs. He came to us from a local shelter where he was picked up as a stray. More than likely, someone got him as a puppy and then was not able to provide the proper amount of exercise. Thanks to our volunteers, he gets to go on long walks and investigate lots of things. Thanks to our Paws Behind Bars prison dog training program, we had an inmate who was able to get him going in the right direction and teach him basic obedience. Most recently, he's fallen in love with Clover. When they're in the play yard, sharing their big stick, nothing else in the world matters. Sherlock's perfect family should be active. A good fenced in yard and another young dog to play with are also desired (preferably Clover!). He's fun to be around! IMPORTANT: Please Keep in mind both the age and life expectancy of Sherlock. Our guiding principle for adoptions is to seek the right fit for our rescues and the families, including a home that can stay committed to the animal for life. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date on shots, and on heartworm prevention. Jack is good with kids, cats, and dogs! He is housebroken but isn’t crate trained. The owner is surrendering him because of his high energy. They also aren’t able to provide the time and attention that he needs. He needs to go ASAP! Story

Milo is a high energy 5.5-year-old, half Austrian Shepard, half English Shepard. I received him from a breeder off a farm near Elizabethtown, KY when he was an 8-week-old puppy. He has lived most of his life in the city, however my parents have a farm that he visits frequently. Milo loves to run around the farm and explore. He has always been a very smart dog, he would learn tricks quickly, but he will push the boundaries of the trick/command. Milo has had some problems with aggression in the past. Generally, Milo is friendly with humans, just give him time to greet you, but other dogs tend to make him defensive, specifically large male dogs. Usually, if he has time to slowly meet another dog and get used to the dog, he is very playful with them. Milo has tons of energy and would be a great dog for lots of exercise, I have walked with him and run with him before on the leash, but he does pull some. The ideal home for Milo would be lots of land, or at least somewhere with a large yard.

Jack was a rescue from Louisville Metro animal society. He is a beautiful young dog that needs someone with lots of energy and time. He's a very smart, learns very quickly. He is not a good fit for our home as I don't have the time that he needs. I'm looking for someone that will love him and take care of him until he is no longer with us.

I got lulu years ago from a random on social media. She came from a small apartment full of college guys and was abused. She is very scared of men that remind her of her first owner, but she is a good dog and will protect her owner till the very end. She is gentle when it’s cuddle time and takes pride in her bones. She needs a family that will give her a lot of attention and have a yard to run in. Some words to describe lulu would be outgoing, dramatic, stubborn, loves the outdoors, people watching or even just sunbathing. She always finds the spot where the sun is shining and will get her sun on! She just needs someone who will take really good care of her. I no longer can meet her needs and I believe there is someone out there who will. She deserves a better life than the one she currently has.

DOVE is a one year old, female border collie/hound mix. She has a cute, little nubbins of a tail that just is the frosting on cake for this precious dog. She is currently in our Paws Behind Bars prison dog training because at her age, there is nothing better for a young adult than manners and composure. She is super smart and has picked up on her schooling quickly although her favorite part of the day is snuggling with people. She's great with the other dogs in the program and her favorite toy is her kong. Her perfect family should be an active one with a fenced yard so she can get the proper amount of exercise.
