Story
Meet Magellan! He had been living on the street for a few months when someone asked if we could take him in. He’s sooooo happy and bouncy! He weighs 51 pounds and is about a year old, still a baby with sparkling white teeth! He is GREAT with the other dogs in the yard, but plays a little too rough for smaller dogs. He has a chill disposition and isn’t dominant with the other dogs. Magellan is super smart and did great during his brief time in a temporary home. He learned sit and down quickly, and he does well in his crate. He loves to cuddle. Magellan loves to play! He would be a great addition to any home!IMPORTANT: Please read all below, especially if you live outside of Texas, which is where our rescue is located.Apply to adopt on our website: https://www.charmingpetrescue.org/adoptAll of our animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots.ALL of our animals are located in Boerne, TX, but transport after adoption is available to other states for a $300 fee for dogs or an additional fee varying by location for cats. If you are seeing our pets posted in your state, that's because you live near a transport stop, they are not currently at that location. Petfinder lists our pets as 'Out of Town' pets at other locations, and Adopt-a-Pet lists our location as a Transport stop. Those are currently the only options they offer to make this clear, so we put this description we've put at the bottom to explain it. You can read more about transport here: www.charmingpetrescue.org/transportWe understand transport is not an option for everyone, but we offer it at the cost we pay the transport company for those who wish to adopt from us.June 30, 2024, 5:19 am

HOW TO ADOPT: This dog is available for adoption by request. To schedule a time to meet this dog, please contact Cassandra at cjohnson@arl-iowa.org. ---- Great dog with tons of potential who is looking for a special family who will continue working with him to help him gain confidence and learn that life is full of great things. If you're up to the challenge, read on! - Came from an environment where he did not get the normal socialization that most puppies get, so the world is still a very scary place for him - Has come a long way in the weeks we have been working with him, and will take treats from people he has a relationship with - We are requiring a fenced yard to ensure he stays safe and secure as he has had no experience with being on leash though he is making slow progress! - We've seen lots of progress, but things such as petting from strangers, leashing up, and anything a "normal" dog would like can still be quite scary for him, so he will need continued help over time from his new family - Leaving interactions 100% up to him and using treats as rewards are great ways to gain him trust; he LOVES having the choice to interact and have his space when he feels uncomfortable - Has done best with other dogs and would really benefit from a calm, confident dog friend in his new home so he can follow their lead and build confidence by watching them navigate daily life - Needs a teens-and-up home right now, as young children are way too much for him. A mature, structured home would be perfect! - Is likely hearing impaired, but is learning some hand signaling in his foster home - Since he's still learning to live with people, vet visits will have to be approached differently, so it will be important to talk with your veterinarian about ways to help him be most comfortable - Looking for a predictable home with very patient people who understand that it will take him not days but weeks to become completely comfortable. If you're willing to give him that time, you'll see, just as we have, that he is worth the wait! It will be incredibly rewarding to watch him become more trusting every day! The ARL's shelter software requires that we choose a primary breed for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most dogs we are only guessing at primary breed. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not breed label. Primary Color: White Weight: 56 Age: 2yrs 3mths 2wks

Story
We purchased our pup from a breeder. She is 1.5 years old. She is super sweet, smart, loyal, fun. We would keep her 1000 times over if we didn't have such a busy household with family, friends and neighbors coming over often. With 3 kids (teens and preteens) we are always having their friends or neighborhood kids come over to hangout/play. She is perfect once she gets to know you. But if you are an adult or kid she doesn't know and suddenly is there, she goes into her herding mode and tries to protect us and her animal siblings from that person coming up to the house or entering our house. She will run towards them, keep circling them until she gets close enough to nip their leg to try to make them go away. If we hold her and introduce her to the guest and show her they are not a threat, then she is fine. But with our busy household, we can't always do that. She would be best in a household where not a lot of people are coming and going.

Story
Storm is being returned through no fault of her own. Storm is 2.5 years old and 67 lbs. Storm is great with kids, but would do best in a home with kids ages 7+. She leaves cats alone. She is house trained and loves being in her kennel when needed. Storm was sleeping in bed with adopter until she had a baby and now easily sleeps in her kennel. Storm lived with another very submissive dog and did fine with him but the adopter mentioned that she would not do well with another dominant dog. She’s more of a people dog than dog’s dog. She loves her people big and just wants to be near them as much as possible. Storm would need continued work on leash training, but is proving to be quite the eager student and is learning voice commands easily. Storm is a barker, but mostly outdoors. She isn’t into toys, but loves a good bone and lots of exercise. Storm is a super sweet pup that gives excellent good night kisses. All adoptions are $300 per dog for puppies under 1 year, $250 for adults 1 - 9 years old and $150 for senior dogs which include spay/neuter, micro-chipped and up-to-date on required shots. Senior dogs, at our discretion, are adopted out at $150 per dog because we know they will have less time with your family and may eventually have more needs as they get older. But we feel these dogs deserve to live out the rest of their lives as part of a loving family.

Story
Hiya, I'm Chester! I'm a 2 year old Australian Shepherd/Husky mix. I'm a friendly, smart, playful, and energetic pooch. I was found as a stray but now I'm ready for my new forever home. I love treats and would be the best friend you could ask for. Take me home and I'll show you how loyal of a boy I am. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to request an appointment to meet me. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and Minneapolis, MN areas twice a month. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual and we will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veteinarian ($35). Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! ##2009700##
