Storm is 3 years old and 65ish lbs. She is house trained and loves being in her kennel when needed. Storm does great with submissive dog friends and ignores cats. She lived with kids in the past but typical to the herding breed, tends to get more anxious with their fast movements so we're suggesting older children in the home. Storm loves her people big and just wants to be near them as much as possible. She loves to run around the yard, go on car rides or leash walks and just be with her human(s). Storm is a super sweet pup that gives excellent hugs and kisses. Her adoption fee is $250 - apply at www.foreverhomedogs.org to meet her!All adoptions are $300 per dog for puppies under 1 year, $250 for adults 1 - 9 years old and $150 for senior dogs which include spay/neuter, micro-chipped and up-to-date on required shots. Senior dogs, at our discretion, are adopted out at $150 per dog because we know they will have less time with your family and may eventually have more needs as they get older. But we feel these dogs deserve to live out the rest of their lives as part of a loving family.

Hi, I'm Bruno. I'm a 2 year old Australian Shepherd mix. I seem to do good with other dogs and I do good in my kennel overnight so potty-training should be easy! I'm a little shy of new people but warm up with treats as I am highly food motivated. I'm pretty scared of a leash but the shelter staff is working to getting me more used to it. Can you be my second chance? If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! Meet Magellan! He had been living on the street for a few months when someone asked if we could take him in. He’s sooooo happy and bouncy! He weighs 51 pounds and is about a year old, still a baby with sparkling white teeth! He is GREAT with the other dogs in the yard, but plays a little too rough for smaller dogs. He has a chill disposition and isn’t dominant with the other dogs. Magellan is super smart and did great during his brief time in a temporary home. He learned sit and down quickly, and he does well in his crate. He loves to cuddle. Magellan loves to play! Garlic was a foster taken in to become a service dog. Unfortunately, he failed out of school for being too friendly and too distracted by toys. He doesn’t take treats very well either. He’s a very good boy who is kennel trained and loves to be outside playing with his balls or frisbee. If adopted, you will get a couple of his toys!
