Story
Meet Leia! This sweet, sensitive girl came to the Shelter after her previous guardian was unable to continue caring for her. She had lived in a home with a maltipoo and a family previously, including teenagers. When Leia meets new people, she tends to move away and avoid interaction. After a while, she warms up. The way to Leia’s heart is through play with dogs. She is a playgroup regular and enjoys romping around with other pups. A home with a resident dog is required to help Leia transition into her new home and provide a canine friend to help show her the world is not so scary. She is house and crate trained. Leia’s favorite activities in her previous home are walking, running and playing. Her favorite toys are balls. When riding in the car, Leia likes to look outside and watch the world go by. Leia is looking for a home with a resident canine companion that she can be BFFs with. If your pup is looking for a friend – look no further than Leia!Come on in to meet your new BFF today at 1001 Rodriguez Street, Santa Cruz from 11-6pm. All adoptions are first come, first serve in person at the Shelter, and must be completed before 4:45pm.

Story
01/29/24 14:23Notes from SVPP from last week: Today I walked 6.1 miles along the Los Gatos Creek Trail. I am a trusting boy, soI got leashed up right away and hoped in my walkers’ car. They told me I was agood CALM car traveler! I don’t pull on my leash, but I zig zag trying to exploreeverything outside the shelter. I am curious with squirrels, but I don’t go nutsabout them. After a large dog pulled and barked at me, I was nervous andanxious at other dogs. After that incident, my walkers told me to sit and saidFOCUS and showed me a treat so when ever another dog was on the path. Ididn’t react anymore. I learned this quickly, so they took me to the Pruneyardwhere I sat nicely and got a delicious pup cup.Three Words to Describe Me are: TRUSTINGFRIENDLY ( I want to say to everyone)CURIOUS ( so much to sniff )Notes from My Walker: Rex is a really nice gentle and kind dog. He is extremelywell behaved with the exception of passing dogs in close proximity. Put him onthe side of path and tell him to sit. We showed him a treat and waited for the dogto go by! He caught on quickly. He doesn’t jump up, or bark or do any nipping. He takes treats nicely and after an hour or so, he got very affectionate with us. He is ready for adoption!!!!
