Let me introduce you to Dakota, one of our newer residents at the Mesquite Animal Shelter picked up by one of our officers on 6/3. He weighs 60 pounds, is about 3 years old and is neutered. He is an Australian Kelpie mix. He is a stunningly attractive fellow with standup ears, a beautiful coat, and clear blue eyes. He knows the sit and paw commands. He will sit for treats and takes them politely. He showed off his athleticism by nimbly climbing up on our play equipment. He spent some time with his nose to the ground, checking out all the fascinating smells in the yard. He chased but did not return the tennis balls I threw. He is lively, spunky, and a happy-go-lucky boy. He has an outgoing and confident personality. Being a herding breed, he tries to herd the person who is walking him. This could be an issue if adopted into a family with very small children. He is a very likable boy and highly adoptable. Dakota is friendly and was happy for me to pet his soft, silky fur that has a sheen to it! Will you consider helping him out of the shelter?

She really just wants to be a lap/sofa pup and because of her temperment and that she is quiet, we think she would also be a candidate for apartment living as well, AND WE NEVER SAY THAT. Lila is apprx 35 lbs., apprx 3 years old, fully vetted, and heartworm negative. She is leash trained and knows basic obedience commands. Hi! I'm Brody! I am in the DFW area in Texas. I haven’t had the best life and that’s why I’m sharing my story today with high hopes of finding me a new family. I had a family at one time but they moved and left me with their roommate. He didn’t like me so he put me outside where it was easy to escape. He was all I had and when he walked to work I would follow him and then cruise around town and wait for him to get off. I got pretty famous on fb and I would meet new doggie friends a long the way. People would feed me at all the restaurants and try to catch me but I kept thinking my new dad would want me sooner or later. One day a lady came to get me and I was eating out of her hand but then they came out and said that I was the manager’s dog. I really wanted to go with the lady but he said no he likes me walking with him to and from work. Some time passed and she came back. That day I was all over town! People were taking pics like I was a movie star! He told her she could have me! She took me straight to the vet to stay and then I got to go home. I had a few vet visits but now I am ready to start my new life with my own family. She said her house is just the step right before my furever home! So, long story short I am a friendly boy and I like other dogs and toys. I am neutered and UTD on everything plus I take a monthly pill to keep the heartworms away! The vet thinks I am about 2.5 years old and I weight about 26 pounds. I am house and crate trained. Plus, I will love you unconditionally forever! Please share me everywhere!
