Story
Luna's story with us started during the day before the terrible ice storm in January of 2020 in Dallas Texas. My friend how found her during a work one day. She was a country dog with a big will to survive. She was one of many in her litter. She was very spring/funny/sweet. She stood out amongst the pack. She cozied up to my wife and myself and made an immediate connection. She took a while to learn how to adapt to being a primarily inside dog, as when my friend found her she had been living in an abandon home from the start of her life until the day we took her in. She has been a great dog. She has no fear and is full of love. She gets attached to her new "pack" AKA my family. If space was not a problem we would keep her. But, unfortunately and fortunately my wife and I have started having kids. And, we feel we do not have the time energy or space to give her all that she deserves. 10/10 a great dog.

Story
The Big Rig has come to North Texas (Dallas area)! The Mack truck of puppies, the wriggliest of them all, Wrigley! Coming in at a whopping 65lb plus, this neutered pup isn't even a year yet and is not for the faint of heart! This sweet boy has a big playful personality and loves to throw his weight around. Mr. Rig is looking for a forever family/person that can keep up with his energy, both physically and mentally! He would love some kids or younger/larger dogs to play with as he loves to roll around and wrestle. He is actually pretty malleable with people and dogs and will happily flomp over for belly rubs! Have a pool or like to visit the lake? We believe Mr. Wrig will take to water like a duck and thoroughly enjoy some summertime swimming!  Wrigley will need an experienced family that knows how to stay consistent with obedience to really thrive. Though it is for his own good to become a top notch canine citizen, he will happily tell you all about it. Wrigley is very food motivated and walks decent on a leash, though he does love to try and catch bugs, eat long blades of grass to look like a rustic Texan, and explore his surroundings, he tires out pretty quick in the heat. Think you may be interested in meeting this big cutie? Send us an inquiry!

Story
Let me introduce you to Dakota, one of our newer residents at the Mesquite Animal Shelter picked up by one of our officers on 6/3. He weighs 60 pounds, is about 3 years old and is neutered. He is an Australian Kelpie mix. He is a stunningly attractive fellow with standup ears, a beautiful coat, and clear blue eyes. He knows the sit and paw commands. He will sit for treats and takes them politely. He showed off his athleticism by nimbly climbing up on our play equipment. He spent some time with his nose to the ground, checking out all the fascinating smells in the yard. He chased but did not return the tennis balls I threw. He is lively, spunky, and a happy-go-lucky boy. He has an outgoing and confident personality. Being a herding breed, he tries to herd the person who is walking him. This could be an issue if adopted into a family with very small children. He is a very likable boy and highly adoptable. Dakota is friendly and was happy for me to pet his soft, silky fur that has a sheen to it! Will you consider helping him out of the shelter?

Story
RESCUE ONLYAddie really tugged at my heart and I hope she does yours. She is so deserving of a better life than she's obviously had for the last few years, at least. Addie is at least an eight year old Australian Kelpie/Shepherd mix that weighs 50 pounds. She was brought to the Mesquite Animal Shelter by one of our officers on 8/28. She was cautiously friendly, but with time I won her over. I suspect she has not had the love and pampering she deserves. She has relatively large mammary tumors and lipomas (see last photo)...age related! Her eyes are also matted and she has some minor hair loss down her back. She has been given Nexgard. In spite of that she has forgiven her previous adopters and is wanting to go into a quiet, laid-back, loving home environment where she can live out the rest of her life! She was in seventh heaven when given a soft blanket! She loves treats and takes them gently. She apparently does not know the sit command but does like treats. She does want to please. She wasn't interested in meeting other dogs. She walks well on a leash.. She meandered slowly around the yard. She is sweet, calm, and with trust very loving! Please, please email rescues@cityofmesquite.com to tag Addie. Type tag in the subject line along with ID 56656572 to ensure proper tagging.
