Story
Lily was adopted from our local animal control, 4 years ago as a stray and has adjusted well to being a house dog. She is extremely sweet and an amazing dog. She is great with dogs her size or smaller, but can be over-submissive and is sometimes bullied. She does great with kids of all ages, and enjoys running around with them outside or sitting with them as they read and relax. You will often find her sitting at one of her people’s feet while they work or walking around the house seeing what everyone is doing. She loves to explore outside and go for walks or jogs. Lily knows most basic commands, and is food motivated. She enjoys routine and schedule, but will adapt quickly to changes and enjoys the occasional trip to dog daycare. She will be your best friend and closest ally, and will love to join your pack.

Homer is a 1 - 2 yr old male Kelpie mix. He has a high energy level, so he would benefit from an active family with a fenced yard and plenty of space for daily exercise and play. He is loose and wiggly when greeting, and comes when called for snuggles. He also loves to hop up into your lap for hugs and kisses. Homer does moderately pull on a leash, but with basic obedience training, he should be walking like a champ in no time! He is food motivated, and knows the command sit. He mixes well with other dogs in a kennel and is indifferent towards cats in the shelter environment. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general-purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs, and we cannot guarantee the behavior of dogs with children, other pets, or cats. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. We always encourage family to do some research on the breeds or mixes of breeds prior to adoption as many can have some unique characteristics that may or may not fit into their families. Always remember that the majority of dogs at our shelter have been exposed to or may have kennel cough. Kennel cough is contagious to other dogs, please talk to your vet if you have any questions about kennel cough prior to adoption. Please ask your adoption counselor at time of adoption if you have any unanswered questions regarding illnesses and treatments of the pet that you are adopting. His days are spent on outdoor escapades, playing in the kiddie pool with his foster sibling, and snuggling during TV time. Meko's playful behavior is guaranteed to brighten your day!
