Hello from Connecticut, I am a handsome Australian Kelpie mix named River, 2-1/2 years old, about 32 lbs, and I am one cool dude. Easygoing, calm, and collected would describe my personality. I’m friendly with people young and old and other dogs, so it’s a mystery what I was doing in a Laredo Texas Animal Shelter. Thankfully a dog rescue had a sharp eye and loved my personality, sent me to a foster home so I could be adopted and make some lucky person/family very happy. I am well-behaved and quiet, even when all the household chihuahuas start barking like crazy I will look to see what’s going on, but maintain my dignity and not join in. I learned how to use a doggy door just by watching the other dogs, so now even though I was already housebroken, I can easily let myself out to take care of business. I’m sweet and loveable, love to play, and not too proud to admit I love squeaky toys. I can walk nicely on a leash, and take a ride in the car, I’m loyal, social, and self-assured, I’ve got it all going on. Well, my dreams came true and I was adopted 5 months ago by a very nice person in Connecticut but sadly due to an illness and a nursing home, I cannot tag along and must find a new future. East Coast families, please come by and meet me, just be prepared to fall in love and take me home. * 4 Little Paws is based in CT. We adopt in many different states along the East Coast. Bear is a sweet, energetic dog with Heterochromia (one blue eye) who loves to be around people who show him love. He was picked up as a stray in Georgia, spent some time in NYC, and is now being fostered in CT where he is THRIVING. He's able to run around and explore the outdoors, his two favorite hobbies. In a matter of a few days, Bear has become a lot more comfortable with the new surroundings and really started to show his affectionate side. He absolutely loves to play and loves to cuddle. Bear is housebroken and crate trained. Currently he has a crate inside his playpen, but chooses to sleep/hang out in the playpen with no issues - he sleeps through the night and relaxes (after a bit of whining) during the day. He’s very smart and food-motivated and responds very well to daily training. Bear has not been aggressive around his food and is the gentlest treat-taker you've ever seen. Bear loves to go for car rides! Personally, I like having him in the backseat with his seatbelt on, he prefers to be a passenger. Bear walks best with his harness and benefits from continued leash training. He is an energetic, athletic, strong dog and would do great with people who enjoy outdoor activies as well. While all of well-raised puppies found their forever families and left the Adogs Center, only Dana stayed to wait for her family. * With People: Tends to be shy at first, but opens up quickly if people approach her slowly. Once she feels comfortable, she becomes affectionate and enjoys asking people to pet her. Due to some past trauma, she is a bit afraid of adult men. * With Dogs: Gets along well with her dog friends without any issues, but she may growl with jealousy if another dog intervenes. She is currently undergoing training to manage her anger when a dog friend doesn’t respond to her invitation to play. * Potty Training: Has only outdoor potty breaks at the center. * Growls from time to time when she feels jealous of another dog friend or if the dog ignores her signal to play, so caution is necessary. * Is afraid to be trapped alone in the room, so she needs separation anxiety training from the start.

Location is Westminster, MD. Wilfred is looking for his next adventure! Wilfred is approximately 7 years old and is an Australian Shepherd/Australian Cattle Dog mix. He is wicked smart and has medium energy and would do best with daily exercise. He would make an excellent hiking partner, agility prospect and would excel at learning tricks. He loves catching frisbees and balls and enjoys squeak toys. He walks well on a leash, but also has great recall off-leash. He is very obedient and has a kind heart. He loves riding in the car and will patiently wait for you to return. His ideal home would be with an individual, couple, or the right family. He previously lived with small children and was very gentle. Just like most ACD’s, he likes to get to know his people and approach on his own terms. Now, to what he does not like…NO CATS!! He had a terrible experience with a cat in his previous life and he is still trying to get revenge. He will chase small animals, squirrels, chipmunks, birds, but can be verbally redirected easily. He previously lived with another female dog and is sharing my house with two male dogs. I think with the proper introduction, he would get along with either sex. I would recommend that they be about the same size. I do not think he would tolerate small, vocal, or anxious dogs. I would also recommend that his fur friends be confident…he previously lived with an insecure dog, and he fed off her anxious energy. I have calm, confident dogs and he has been fine. He is crate trained and house broken. He can be left out of the crate and has not had any accidents or damaged any furniture. If he gets anxious or unsure of a situation, gunfire, or fireworks, he likes to grab a squeak toy which redirects his attention and calms him down. I live near a gun range, and he has gotten less reactive to the noise since he first arrived. The dog has a lot of heart. He tries extremely hard to please. I am a low to medium energy boy who doesn't mind spending all day on the couch watching a good netflix movie; but I am also up to a nice walk in the woods so I can take in all the smells and sounds. I do still like to chew on inappropriate things (mom decides what is inappropriate) so when mom isn't home I do spend time in my crate and I am good with that. I don't mind taking a nice lazy nap in my crate. I can be redirected easily to things I am supposed to chew on! I have been hanging out with my sister Scarlett, but I do well with other dogs as long as you give me just a few minutes to give them a good look over and a few sniffs. Once I determine they smell okay, I am willing to play! Did I mention I like the human things called kids. Especially if they are willing to take me for a walk or play. Mama says I am good on a leash, house trained and very kind and respectful. I would love to share your couch with you and do some exploring! If you’re looking for a sweet, sassy, and silly dog that will absolutely adore you, meet you in all of your feelings, and look at you like you’re their whole world, look no further than Ziva, the 40 lb., 6.5-year-old, Australian Cattle Dog mix. She’s incredibly intelligent, crate trained, fully house trained and can even ring a bell to tell you when she needs to use the bathroom! She knows all your standard tricks, but also has a handful of really fun ones like spinning, high fives, and playing dead. She really enjoys the toughest of chew toys, food puzzles, tug of war, and snuggles and scratches. She’s terrible at fetch! She will chase the ball but then will insist you chase her to get it back. Huge fan of sticks. You will inevitably have to tell her that she’s given you enough kisses and must cease such, and though she will protest profusely, she will eventually acquiesce! Ziva needs to be the only dog in the home. Ziva will not want to co-exist with any other pets and is currently separated from the other dog in the home by alternating crate time. A fenced backyard would be best where she can run freely to get her needed exercise away from other dogs. Dog parks and walks around other dogs would not do well for her unfortunately. Ziva will sit next to you on the couch and love the quiet attention as well. She won’t hog the blankets at night but will frequently crawl under them and lay against your side. If the two dogs here did get along then I would be keeping them both but two years of keeping them separated in the same home has shown that she must have her own home.
