Meet Rooster! Rooster is an adorable blend of Standard Poodle and Treeing Walker Hound. He is 9 months old and weighs approx 55 lbs. He is available for adoption through PAWS Rescue inc. Rooster is a friendly and social pup who gets along well with other dogs and has been introduced to cats. However, due to his natural curiosity, he wouldn’t be the best fit for a home with free-roaming chickens. He’s an affectionate boy who doesn’t like being left alone for too long, so a home with another dog or someone who’s around often would be ideal. As a young pup, Rooster is still learning the ropes of good behavior. He’s getting used to being in a kennel when left alone—he may whine a little at first but settles down after a bit. Like most puppies, he loves to chew, so he’ll need plenty of durable chew toys to keep him occupied. Rooster has bursts of energy in the mornings and evenings but is fairly relaxed during the middle of the day. He’s still working on his recall, so he’ll need to stay on a leash in public until he builds trust and learns to listen reliably. With consistency and patience, he’ll continue to grow into a well-mannered companion. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.  The rescue’s hard costs alone (excluding transport) for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,368. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the adoption fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. Transport is a significant additional expense to the rescue.  While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that the rescue does not receive government funding and must fundraise to offset the remaining expense balance which ranges $100-1,000++ per animal on these direct costs.
