Story
Rover is appx 1-2 yrs old, and 90 lbs. He is a big boy, and loves to explore, so a secure fenced yard is a must for this boy! Rover loves going for walks, and does pretty good on leash. He is using a doggy door, and he enjoys laying out in the sun, soaking up the warmth. Rover loves to play fetch!  He will bring the toy or ball back to you, play with it for a bit, then drop it and step back for you to throw it again. He is also quite a ball player, give him a basket ball or soccer ball and he is ready to roll. He loves playing with big balls that roll around so he can chase them. He loves it when you kick the ball so he can give chase! Rover has met other dogs, he is not a candidate for a home with another male dog and though he does do well with female dogs, he prefers to be the only dog in the home, so he can have the attention for himself. No cats or small animals for this boy! For more information, contact ozarksummer@yahoo.com Adoption fee $150.00  November 3, 2024, 12:22 am

Story
I’m a lucky dog – I’m in a special training program with the Missouri State University DARR College of Ag Companion Animal Science Program. I will be working with the students in that program as they learn and I learn until late November – when I will be available to go to an adopter. What a fortunate adopter that will be! I can be pre-adopted or a qualified applicant can make an appointment to meet me as soon as I’m available in November. Apply online at polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt. Hello there, I'm Rio! I wandered to a nice person's house along with 4 siblings and our mom. The nice people at the shelter came and got me and thank goodness they did, because we were just wandering aimlessly. My days are filled with wagging tails and wet noses. I'm just a puppy, but I've got a big heart. I'm sweet as honey, always ready to give you my undivided attention. I'm friendly too, eager to meet new friends and play. Loyalty is my middle name, I promise to be your faithful companion through thick and thin. And I'm gentle, careful with every step and touch. My dream? To find a forever home where I can share all this love. Adopt me, and let's fill our days with joy and companionship. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2093941##

Story
Grover is an Anatolian Shepherd mix who came to us as a stray in March 2022. He was terrified and didn't know anyone or where he was going. He got some much needed TLC from our staff and his confidence has since grown tremendously. He is more outgoing, treat motivated, and LOVES to hang out with staff at the front desk. He thinks he is a lap dog and can easily be found in someone's lap or in a chair of his own! Grover is looking for a home with no kids and no other pets, as he wants to be your only baby! He is so loving and just needs time to adjust to a new home and environment. He needs a family that will give him time and have patience with him while he is settling into his new home. He is so loyal and will love you forever!

Story
Lennon is a fun and sociable dog! She's a 2-year-old Anatolian Shepherd mix. Lennon is very playful and sweet, in addition to being dog-friendly. We recommend a dog meet and greet with any dogs you currently own just to ensure they get along. She is older kid-friendly (ages 12+), and it's unknown how she is with cats. Her ideal home includes a backyard or space where she can play, but it's not required. Lennon was found as a stray, and she's craving a forever home she can be spoiled in! She's house-trained and ready to join your household.

Story
I found Whiskey and his 9 siblings on a very busy road in the country, talked around to neighbors and found the “owners” who were just feeding them but not keeping them contained. So, I rescued the whole litter and working on getting them all UTD on vaccinations, spay/neuter, wellness exam, heartworm neg. and microchipped. Every single one of the pups are SO SO sweet and docile! They are all living in my backyard with adequate shelter during this time. Looking for rescue or direct adoption.

These pups are in Lebanon, Missouri too!
