Story
Calling all Shepherd LOVERS-Meet Carmie! Carmie is a 3-year-old Shepherd mix with a heart full of love and a deep affection for people. If someone is searching for a loyal, affectionate, and expert-level cuddle buddy, she might just be the perfect match. A few things to know about beautiful Carmie: She has been living with her current family for a year and a half. She’s a great dog, but she has struggled to get along with her dog sister since a scrap over a rabbit. Carmie would be much happier in a home where she is the only pet. Her family adores her, making this decision difficult, but they know she will thrive best in a home where she can live free of the concern of a canine companion. She loves to run around a yard as well, so space is important for this healthy girl. Carmie absolutely loves people. Whether lounging on the couch or simply spending time at home, she wants to be close to her humans at all times. She’s also vocal - she “squeaks” out her feelings of love and joy, so you’ll never wonder where she is! Carmie is a total cuddlebug. While she enjoys playing with her squeaky ball and running around the yard, her favorite activity is snuggling up and being her person’s personal weighted blanket. A comfy home and a cozy routine? That’s her dream! Kids? Visitors? Yes, please! The vet? That’s a person! Yes, please! Carmie needs a quiet life as the only pet. Other dogs and cats aren’t really her thing—she would much rather soak up all the love and attention from her favorite humans. Carmie has completed three sessions of professional training. She knows a variety of commands and works hard to stay calm. As a true Shepherd mix (Anatolian, German, and English), she tends to be a bit anxious and highly alert. An owner willing to continue working with her on maintaining calmness would be ideal. Carmie is incredibly silly—she sometimes falls off the couch from getting too relaxed, enjoys playing with her human teenage sisters, and has some of the best ears in the world. Carmie is highly intelligent and picks up on things quickly. She rings a bell to go outside and knows commands such as sit, stay, lay down, wait, shake, and back up. While she is house-trained and well-behaved indoors, walking on a leash can be a challenge due to her alert nature and some reactivity to other dogs and small animals. However, Carmie has made great progress. She has been crate trained, but has had free reign of her current house without incident for a year. She’s used to sleeping in her dog bed on the floor. Okay, she’s a little spoiled… Carmie also has an adventurous side—she has been known to climb a 4-foot chain-link fence! Her family added fence extensions to prevent her from escaping, and they are happy to provide these to her new home. She doesn’t want to run away—she just loves to chase small animals and explore. Carmie is fully vetted, up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed, and ready to start her new life with a loving family. For anyone looking for a sweet, loving, intelligent and loyal homebody companion, Carmie would love to meet you. If you would like to meet Carnie, please visit spotslaststop.org and fill out an application.

Story
Hey there, I am Gordy aka Gordon (when I’m not listening) and Gordito Crunch (when my foster mama is playing with me)! I am an almost 3 year old Great Dane/Great Pyrenees mix. That just means I’m extra great of course!  I have the Great Dane height and body but a Great Pyrenees head with the Pyrenees shedding.  I was originally surrendered as a puppy due to having special back legs. I was adopted to a wonderful family but recently was surrendered back to rescue because I can be a strong personality. I get that from the Great Pyrenees side.  I love hard and love attention from my humans but don’t enjoy people I don’t know initially. I take my job of guarding the home seriously and need my humans to communicate and prove to me that they can control and protect the house so I don’t have to worry about it.  I recently spent a month with a really nice lady who taught me really fun things like walking well on leash, a strong place command, heel, come and all of the other skills I need to be a well mannered boy.  I really love to play with toys and other dog friends as long as they are not dominant. I’m a total goofball but have shown resource guarding over food with other dogs. I prefer to eat my food and bones in my kennel.  I really love my kennel. I sleep there at night and when my foster parents are gone. I will counter surf if left unattended.  Remember how I was surrendered as a puppy due to having special legs? Well, I still have special back legs. I was born with slightly twisted femurs so I walk a bit differently and have arthritis in my back knees. I love to run and play but can be sore after playing all day long so I occasionally take gabapentin to help. I also require daily joint supplements to help my bones stay healthy.  I currently take anxiety meds daily. I have been on these since I was young to help with my desire to protect the home. These meds cost about $90 for a 90 day supply so any future adopter needs to be able to continue to pay for regular medications.  Foster Mama Here: Gordy is the bestest boy. We fostered him when he was a puppy as well. We do not let him greet visitors at our house and require him to stay on his bed in a “place” while visitors are here. He is also happy to stay in his kennel. He does like to meet people slowly and at a good pace. Once he knows and trusts you he will forever welcome you as a family member of his.  Gordy has so much potential and loves so hard. But he will require owners who can set strict boundaries in the home and hold him accountable. His breed and genetics make him want to protect his home and people but if you a set boundaries he is such a great listener.  We walk him on a prong collar and he is eCollar trained. His adopters will need to commit to continued use of these training tools and also meeting with his board and train trainer to learn about everything he knows.  Gordy loves the snow and playing outside. His favorite is his doggy pool in the summer. We have 4 other dogs in our home and he plays with all of them.  Gordy lived with kids in his first home. He was very protective over them so we do not recommend he go to a home with children under the age of 12. He has been thriving with a farm life and would do best outside of the city. ##954057##

Story
Kota here! That’s right, I have finally put on enough weight to begin the hunt for my forever home!  I am a 3 year old neutered male Great Dane. I have a fawn coat with Merle splotches aka freckles on my ears.  When I first came into rescue I came from a neglect case and was found  tied to a tree, emaciated, with many parasites and open sores. I slowly gained weight but initially had a hard time understanding I don’t need to fight for my food. I showed resource guarding behaviors but after being neutered and getting to a healthy weight I am much more comfortable with other dogs around food.  I need a family who is confident and comfortable implementing boundaries around food and resources such as furniture, beds, etc. Doing so will help me learn I don’t need to protect these things in a new living situation. I am comfortable sharing all of these things in my foster home now. I currently eat my meals in my kennel so I don’t have to worry about sharing food and prefer to continue to eat in a safe space by myself. I can however happily sit and wait for a treat with other dogs around me! I do love to play tug and share toys with my foster brother and sister.  I am learning how to play appropriately. I can be a bit vocal when I get very excited but I listen to my foster parents when they tell me to calm down. I love to wrestle with other non-dominant dogs. I would probably do best with dogs over 25 pounds due to my size, energy and play style.  I LOVE human attention and snuggles. I am a smart boy who is kennel trained, potty trained and I know sit, down, stay, off and out. I love to play fetch in the yard. I LOVE vet visits - again give me all the human attention always! Foster Mama has been working with me on patience for my meals. I know I need to sit and wait until she tells me “ok” for my food. I am also learning “4 on the floor” as in an be a bit jumpy with my favorite people. I just am so excited to see them I can’t contain myself! Even though I am 3 I am a higher energy boy who loves to run and play. I would love an active family.  Recently I have started going to the local indoor dog park and have done SO well playing with other dogs and meeting all the new human friends.  Kota will be most successful with a family who will continue to utilize a crate, attend training classes, and is willing to continue to work on his socialization.  I am currently in foster care in the Twin Cities.  To learn more about me reach out to my rescue! ##2208464##

Story
Hi Friends! My name is Magnolia but everyone calls me Maggie. I am a spayed, female Great Dane that is 1.5 years old. If you are looking for a funny girl who is well trained and has a willingness to please her family, then I am your girl. I am a cute petite lady that loves attention and playing. My interests are eating water biscuits, wiggling my butt, running with my Dane friends, and playing with all the toys at once. I am well trained and listen to commands; however, being consistent will keep me out of mischief. I am fully potty trained, and crate trained, but I am vocal during the day while in the crate. I sleep in my crate at night and I am so worn out from my busy day that you won’t hear me make a sound. I do get along well with my Great Dane friends in the house but they can’t handle all this personality and playfulness. I would like to find a forever home that will continue being consistent with my training and take me on walks. Sometimes I can get overwhelmed with chaos and get too excited so a Great Dane savvy family is what I’m looking for. I would also really appreciate a strong dog friend to guide me and lead me as I’m just a young lady. I can’t wait to find my very own home because I am a lover that appreciates attention. ##2319866##
