Story
Name: Mae Breed: Anatolian Shepherd / Great Pyrenees Mix Sex: Spayed Female Age: 4 years Weight: 106 lbs Behavioral Needs / Needs Experienced Adopter Good with dogs? Mae does well with dogs in neutral environments like parks, but becomes protective and tries to defend her trusted human from new animals in other situations, especially at home. Good with cats? No, Mae is interested in and may chase small animals. Good with kids? Mae is gentle with kids, but needs a mindful, attentive human to provide her with support and care, and needs a quiet, peaceful home. Energy level: Medium. Mae spends a lot of time napping. She will playfully chase a ball although she rarely returns it! Behavioral needs: Mae is a guardian breed dog who worries about new people and new dogs, especially in her home environment, and will seek to protect her domain. She needs a home with few visitors and an adopter who can consider which situations outside the home will be best for Mae. Mae is more comfortable meeting new people outside of her home, but needs a proper introduction. She walks well on a harness and leash, but may pull if she sees another dog, so she needs an adopter who is able to manage a big dog. Mae needs a house with a fenced yard and may do well in a rural environment. Animal Characteristics: Mae is a loyal, loving, beautiful dog who is ready for all of your Colorado adventures! She enjoys rambling in the snow, camping trips and hiking, and will be perfect company if you’d rather spend the day reading or working from home. She will curl up on the couch for lots of snuggles! Mae is fully potty and crate trained, although she is well-behaved and roams freely at home. She is calm and easygoing with people she knows and loves. Please learn more about the adoption process and fill out an application at www.pawsco.org/adopt/adoption-process. You can also contact my friends at PawsCo at adopt@pawscoadoptions.org if you have questions. I look forward to meeting you!

Story
I’m a lucky dog – I’m in a special training program with the Missouri State University DARR College of Ag Companion Animal Science Program. I will be working with the students in that program as they learn and I learn until late November – when I will be available to go to an adopter. What a fortunate adopter that will be! I can be pre-adopted or a qualified applicant can make an appointment to meet me as soon as I’m available in November. Apply online at polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt. Hello there, I'm Rio! I wandered to a nice person's house along with 4 siblings and our mom. The nice people at the shelter came and got me and thank goodness they did, because we were just wandering aimlessly. My days are filled with wagging tails and wet noses. I'm just a puppy, but I've got a big heart. I'm sweet as honey, always ready to give you my undivided attention. I'm friendly too, eager to meet new friends and play. Loyalty is my middle name, I promise to be your faithful companion through thick and thin. And I'm gentle, careful with every step and touch. My dream? To find a forever home where I can share all this love. Adopt me, and let's fill our days with joy and companionship. If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop ##2093941##

Story
Meet Toby, our St Bernard, Anatolian Shepherd and probably labrador mix young dog. He's relatively large and behaves like a big friendly guard/livestock dog but is only 70lbs. Here is an adoption profile link to a larger selection of photos. If you are on petfinder or adoptapet, you may only be seeing a few of his photos.https://petlover.petstablished.com/pets/share/1637235https://www.wagtopia.com/search/pet?id=1637235&name=Toby He is truly a once-in-a-lifetime type of dog. Holder of the coveted but sensationally elusive squirrel killer award (it was a pretty dumb squirrel to be honest).  Toby is a friendly, playful and very affectionate 2-year-old pup. Toby is your typical mountain pup, he is big, he can be loud but he is also well-behaved. He is in a foster home with the founder of the rescue. Toby is happy to live, hang out, play and go on walks with other dogs. He will literally chew on the same toy at the same time as another dog. Toby also knows how to use a pillow like a human. Toby seems well aware of his size and tends to avoid jumping on people unless encouraged, but even then, he does so gently.  Toby has been around small children without any issues, he's happy to vacuum up all of the dropped food. Toby also went on a roadtrip and got to visit white sands national park, he said it was like snow but warm and not edible. Toby would get to a campsite with his foster, go wander around a place he has never been before for 45 minutes (usually covering 2 or 3 miles) and then show back up at the campsite, in the pitch black. He can wander long distances and never seems to get lost, he once lost his foster dad in a forest outside of Santa Cruz, CA. When his dad hiked the 2 miles back to the car, guess who was waiting next to the car. He likes to bark at cows but he runs away from them if they turn towards him. He may have been an outdoor livestock dog at some point but he much prefers soft beds and pillows these days. He can also sleep on a rock when the time calls for it. Toby is patient with other dogs and does not resource guard.  Here is a video of Toby:https://youtube.com/shorts/PI6H-XSV_Xkhttps://youtu.be/x1xPY8SMHmIhttps://youtube.com/shorts/sxJ3YUF-VTIhttps://youtu.be/8pCzpRlzjZshttps://youtu.be/taYc83d26Ichttps://youtu.be/2K8zo-OLQe4https://youtu.be/_BE_jYzJh6chttps://youtu.be/aNEXxgw_4jQ Toby was picked up as a stray and we don't know anything about his past. However, he was a favorite of the shelter staff in Oklahoma. Toby is vaccinated, neutered and microchipped, ready for his new Colorado home and lifestyle. He is around 2 years old and weighs 70lbs. His adoption fee is $450. Toby knows just how miraculous a turn his life has taken when he was picked out by Havok’s Wolfpack and he is determined to live his new life to the fullest in the most playful and adventurous way, hopefully, with you. If you are interested in adopting Toby, please submit an adoption application here: www.havokswolfpack.com/adopt If your application is approved, we will contact you promptly.  ##1637235##

Story
Roper was running at large in North Texas and found his happy place at a French Bulldog breeder’s property SO if you see some really big FBs you know who the baby daddy is! He got his name because the sheriff roped him to break up the party. Our founder drove him to Colorado and just because of his size, she said people wouldn’t even make eye contact with her at gas stations, especially when she got him out to tinkle. She felt totally safe with him and so happy to have him along for the ride. He is 80-ish pounds and we think Dane and whatever. Roper has since been neutered, is current on vaccines, and has been working with a trainer on general obedience. His best owner would be alpha and keep up his training. This boy is sweet and athletic - watching him run and play is a beautiful thing. Please email dancingdogrescueco@gmail.com for foster or adoption information.

PRINCE is a 5 year old Malinois/mix from the mean streets of Houston. He looks and runs like the real deal, just a little abbreviated at 48 lbs. Prince is house trained, crate trained, has great leash manners, current on vaccines, and knows his basic commands. He will be working with his Colorado foster home to fine tune his obedience. The rescue will also sponsor his heartworm treatment until clear. Please email dancingdogrescueco@gmail.com for additional information.
