Story
Helena has a big heart and a big body! Haha!! We assume she is an Anatolian Shepherd/Armenian Gampr. This site does not have that as a breed option. Best as the only dog. Helena was surrendered while in labor and required emergency surgery to deliver the puppies. The people that “owned” her claimed to not have any money for vet care and were driving around with her in the car for hours looking for a vet to do the surgery for free. Finally they ended up at an emergency hospital that knew our friends at HOPE FOR PAWS and they agreed to help with the surgery only if they surrendered the dog to them. They surrendered her and then had the nerve to ask if they could leave a $1,000 deposit for one of the male puppies! Some people are amazing! Of course we would not adopt to them! Helena was so neglected! She had a prolapsed vagina that they said had been that way for “a few months” and they never got her medical care. She was extremely dirty, under weight and she’s lucky she survived! She was too weak to nurse the puppies so they were bottle fed.

Story
We rescued this adorable 4 year old (as of June 2024) boy and he is looking for his forever home. Sweet and playful, he loves toys and water, is house trained, and would make a great active companion for an adult home. Ralfie does get along with other dogs but does need to be the only dog in the home. He knows how to sit and give paw and would love to meet you. Story
Meet Kona! A majestic 4-year-old Anatolian Shepherd hailing from Altadena, California, but with a heart eager to find a new home, no matter where it may be! Kona is a spirited companion, weighing around 80 pounds, who finds joy in the simple pleasures of life: chewies, balls, leisurely walks, and the exhilaration of a good run. Her loyalty knows no bounds as she faithfully trails her loved ones and luxuriates in the comfort of a lounge chair for her well-deserved rest. In her quest for a new abode, Kona seeks a tranquil environment where she can thrive with understanding and compassion, fostering her need for independence. While she may display territorial aggression in the familiar confines of her home, Kona reveals her friendly nature in neutral spaces like boarding facilities. Her only anxiety stems from unfamiliar voices intruding upon her sanctuary, making her yearn for a household that cherishes privacy and limits visitors. Despite her formidable demeanor, Kona possesses a gentle disposition toward young children and exudes boundless energy, making her an ideal playmate for an active family. Her crate-trained manners, up-to-date vaccinations, spaying, microchipping, and impeccable house training attest to her readiness to embark on a new chapter in life! However, prospective caretakers should be prepared for Kona's strong-willed nature, requiring a confident handler to guide her with patience and firmness. If you're interested in providing Kona with a loving home, please email adopt@joyfulpets.com for more information on adopting her! Also, Kona is open to a long-distance adoption—love knows no distance when finding your perfect companion!

Story
Astrid is a LARGE Armenian Gampr weighing in at a healthy 160 pounds. At 3 years old, Astrid is still a puppy at heart and seems to be unaware of her larger than life size. More often than not she can be found lost in her own world, running around, jumping in the air trying to catch some wind under her paws. Astrid must have a vivid imagination as she loves to just hang out on her own, keeping herself entertained. She enjoys simple things like a dip in the kiddie pool and a fluffy squeaky toy. Astrid would like to find a home where she can have all the attention to herself with no other animals. She may get along with other humans 16 and older. She would like a home with a large yard and high secure fencing. An owner willing to invest in training her to be well behaved is a requirement. My adoption comes with a free month of training from GoodPup.com to ease me into my new home and help me bond with my new family.

Story
Here are some of Crystal’s favorite things: playing fetch or tug, chasing squirrels, cheese, getting a belly rub from someone she knows, a frozen Kong treat, riding in a car in a crate, going on hikes. Her nickname is ‘mouse’ because of her big ears, long whiskers and her love of cheese. She is not a dog for everyone, but if you are looking for an engaged, smart, and motivated partner, she is a dog for you. If you are a Malinois person and appreciate their energy, loyalty and careful caution—she has it all. Her other nickname: 0 to 60! The other thing we appreciate about Malinois—intensity—she has that too! Crystal would excel at scent work or any dog sport that is individually based. She’s got the chops to learn and grow and has the potential to evolve with her person in conjunction with the growth of your relationship. She is very sweet and affectionate with those she knows. She came to us via a shelter in Sacramento where she had been found as a stray. The shelter noticed her toy drive (still very much intact!) and that was that. We’ve taken our time in getting to know her and figuring out what she likes (and doesn’t) and, sadly for us, it’s not USAR work that floats her boat. She has the potential to thrive in a job, if she could find the right fit and has the talent for detection work. We think she might like an adult partner (or partners) who understands Malinois, is very active and can provide outlets for her energy and her love of toy play, relationship and learning. She might like a nice yard where she can keep the squirrels out and a place to sit with you after her job is done. She might like a job or a sport, depending on what it is. She would definitely like to hike with you. She would probably like a neighborhood where she can be out and about without a ton of other dogs or people around all the time. The main thing is, if she likes you, she will be an endless source of joy and education as she blooms in your care.
