Story
Nico is a sweet baby boy and had him since he was puppy. He was born on July 4th, 2020. Nico loves playing around especially in a big backyard and is friendly with other dogs and humans! It’s best if he has a doggy sibling and if you have a big backyard for him. He knows sit, shake, and down but his leash training can be worked on. Nico is an escape artist and likes to back out of his harness (we’re working on it) which is why he is better for someone who is well aware of what he’s doing, patient, and has a yard for him. I loved spending every moment with him, but came across a difficult situation so I won’t be able to keep him. I want him to be surrounded by a loving and patient family with good kids or a couple, who can fully give him the attention and affection he needs. He loves tummy rubs! He does nip here and there but only if you overstimulate him (he gives you a warning)… he rarely nips unless you give him a reason to.

Foster Homes Needed! Do you have time and room in your life for a foster dog? http://www.muttloverescue.org/foster.html *****************   Brenda is a 10-month-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix. She’s very affectionate and gets along wonderfully with her foster sister. She also enjoys weekly playdates with other neighborhood dogs. While she’s dog-friendly, she can get a bit anxious and bark when meeting new friends on leash, so introductions in a relaxed setting work best. Brenda loves car rides, snacking on bananas, and snoring while snuggled up to her people. But her ultimate joy? Finding the perfect stick outside, because why chase a ball when you can carry a tree branch?  **BECAUSE OF OUR REQUIREMENT FOR A HOME VISIT, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO ADOPT TO HOMES IN THE NORTHERN VA / MARYLAND / DC METRO AREA** We have adoption events EVERY SATURDAY from 12-3 p.m. Please note that not all dogs can attend every event, so if you are interested in meeting a particular dog, please complete a no-obligation application on our website at http://www.muttloverescue.org/application.html OR write to adopt@muttloverescue.org. Story
Meet Finnick! ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Finnick has been living in the shelter system since he was only 8 weeks old. Finnick is shy around new people and takes a while to feel comfortable. He needs a home that will give him the time he needs to feel comfortable. Patience and treats go a long way towards making this boy your new best friend. Finnick would do best with an experienced dog owner who is willing to take the time to help him settle in. He’s a happy, friendly boy, who just deserves a chance! ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 55 lbs KNOWN WITH DOGS: Finnick isn’t great at making dog friends, so any introductions should be done slowly, however he is good on a leash and can go on walks with other dogs as long as he has space. Finnick can be a resource guarder, so he should be the only dog in the home. KNOWN WITH CATS: We do not currently know how they are with cats. If that is needed, let us know and we'll work on getting that information! KNOWN WITH KIDS: Would be best with children over 10 as he can move quickly when excited and possibly knock a child down by mistake. KNOWN COMMANDS: Sit, down, place, spin, paw, look, and he gives kisses on command too. KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING &/OR CRATING: He is house trained, and crate trained. KNOWN LIKES: Treats. Exercise. Mental and physical exercise, rolling around on grass KNOWN DISLIKES: Living with other dogs. Want to hear some fun facts about Finnick? 1. He is a great listener. He will leave something alone if you tell him "no" 2. He loves belly rubs. 3. He loves crawling on my belly in the grass and rolling around in it. You should look at the videos on the website. 4. H walks great on a leash. 5. He enjoys the outdoors and will go on hikes or walks with anyone. 6. He is treat motivated. 7. He knows many commands. 8. He is playful and goofy! 9. He loves playing in the water. 10. He loves car rides and will sit or lay there quietly. ___________________________________ If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our dog adoption questionnaire and e-mail any questions to: trailshomefarm@homewardtrails.org PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ LOCATION: Foster Home in the NOVA area. Story
Hi!!! My name is Leah. But, my foster mom calls me Yoda because I have wonderfully independent ears! I am crate trained, house broken and walk well on the leash. I enjoy car rides and am a perfect co-pilot. I only chew on toys for aggressive chewers. I don't bother anything that isn't a toy. I love the outdoors and playing with my foster canine brother. My foster canine sister is older, and while I stay in touch with her, I give her space to snooze or whatever. I have impeccable house manners, and the best place to be is by your side. I am a little shy but love attention, and take direction well. I am very food motivated, but treats should be taken gently! I hope to meet you soon! Thank you for your interest in Leah! Please visit www.hart90.org/petdetail.aspx?ID=18088 to get the most up-to-date and accurate information on this pet, to email the contact person listed for more information and how to meet Leah, or to submit an online application. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our dog adoption questionnaire: PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ Questions? Contact Mary Beth at 'messagemarybeth@gmail.com'. Athena is located in a NOVA foster home. Athena has quite a story: Abandoned with her 10 pups in Puerto Rico in the middle of a violent rain storm, she was rescued by a good samaritan who took them inside to safety. Traveling up to Virginia in 2019, she found a wonderful home with a family that loved her very much. 4 years later, her family had a small human of their own, and Athena did not do well adjusting as they became mobile. She is the PERFECT dog other then her food guarding and resource guarding. It is just not compatible for a home with young kids who do not understand to leave her alone while eating or chewing on something valuable. She is GREAT with kids as long as they know to stay away from her favorite snacks. Perhaps it is a reflex after being homeless for so long!! She IS fine with adults manipulating her food. She is residing with the families good friend in foster, while we try to find her the perfect family!!! She would do great for a family of kids 10+, who know when to leave her alone, and that will not bother her while eating or with a valuable chew. She is physically healthy, though a pesky floating kneecap can sometime bother her if she's been running around a LOT. She really loves people the best, but has canine friends as well. She does great with other pups as long as they do not have TOO much energy and do not get in her face a bunch (but who likes that anyways??) She is housetrained, and does just fine being left on her own for long periods of time. Her favorite activity is swimming, car rides, and playtime with humans. Adoption Coordinator: Homeward Trails Adoption Center Location: Adoption Center The adoption fee for this dog is $475. This fee DOES INCLUDE spay/neuter and microchip. COME MEET ADOPTABLE DOGS EVERY SATURDAY AND SUNDAY from 10AM - 4PM at the Homeward Trails Adoption Center- 11116 Fairfax Station Road, Fairfax Station VA 22039! **Note that puppies are in foster homes, not at the Adoption Center.

Story
Meet Twix. This handsome Bully boy was found tied to a pole as a very young pup. Thankfully, a Good Samaritan saw him, took him in, and ensured he found his way to rescue. Twix has proven to be a vibrant, sweet, and smart boy, and we are thrilled to help him find his forever home. Twix is living with seasoned fosters, Laine and Gary, who have four dogs of their own. He was an easy introduction to their pack and quickly formed a bond with Ziege, their youngest dog, who is about his size. Twix thrives in an active environment and enjoys rough-and-tumble play, making him best suited for a home with a dog his size or larger who shares his energy and play style. Laine shared, “Twix is very sweet and knows his name, comes when called, knows how to sit, and loves his belly rubs. He loves to play chase with Girl and Ziege, and tug-of-war is his favorite game. He gets in the kiddie pools a lot and just about anything is a toy to him — my shoes, the laundry basket. He does great meeting new people and will talk to you from time to time. It’s the cutest thing.” Twix has shown himself to be adaptable and eager to learn. He’s housetrained, crate-trained, and has started mastering basic commands. He rides great in the car and does well meeting new people and other dogs. He has decent leash skills; he may pull a bit but improves with practice. Twix is very treat-motivated and learns quickly, so continued training in his new home will be a rewarding experience for both him and his adopters. He’s still a young pup who can get into mischief if bored or left to his own devices, so structure will be important for him. We believe that Twix will need an active home. He’d thrive with a family who appreciates his fun and goofy personality and is committed to giving him the structure and love he deserves. While he loves the company of other dogs, Twix would also be happy as the center of attention in a single dog home, provided he has plenty of interaction and activity. This lovable boy has so much to offer and is ready to bring joy, laughter, and unconditional love to his new family. If you’re looking for a loyal, active, and playful companion, Twix might just be the perfect fit for you. Apply today!   BREED ESTIMATE:  American Staffordshire/Bulldog/Bully Mix = Super cute! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fill out an Adoption Application Update: Pudge went through an allergy test and it revealed he was allergic to cats, dust and storage mites.  He will be getting an allergy shot to help with his itchy skin that lasts 3 months.  Adopters without cats will only be considered for Pudge's wellbeing.  Brief Description: This is "Pudge." What you see is what you get...easy going, calm, well...lazy. :) Likes: Being a couch potato, chewing on Nylabones, eating, sleeping...he's a guy with simple pleasures. Dislikes: Having is nails clipped. Having to wait more than 30 seconds for his food when it's being prepared. Personality: Calm. Chill. Quiet (except when food is being prepared for him). Can be stubborn! Temperament: Laid back. Not much upsets or excites Pudge. Energy level: None. Favorite activities: EATING! Watching TV on the couch with his human while he chews a bone. Good with cats, dogs, and kids (over 6)?: Cats: unknown; Dogs: great - no issues; Kids: unknown but suspect he would be absolutely fine. Haven't found anything so far Pudge isn't good with. He doesn't particularly care to have his nails clipped or baths but he tolerates both. House trained: Working on it and making good progress. It is uncertain where Pudge came from and/or if he's ever been house trained so, therefore, he was started from scratch and he's come a long way. With a consistent schedule and time to adjust he should do well. Crate trained: YES! Pudge loves his crate. Requires a fenced yard (physical fence and/or invisible fence?): No. Walks well on a leash?: When he wants to. Pudge doesn't pull or fight. He just won't walk with his human if it's not where he wants to go. Been working on that and he's doing much better. Challenges: Getting him to socialize more with people and pets. Pudge mostly keeps to himself. He is starting to make attempts to play with the other dogs and humans here and there but needs encouragement. Pudge will need lots of encouragement to get any exercise. Any medical issues?:  Pudge is currently being treated for a persistent skin infection secondary to suspected allergies. He is much improved from when he first arrived. Pudge has recovered well from recent bilateral entropion. Eye irritation and drainage is markedly decreased since the surgery. Pudge has been on a long-term antibiotic treatment and, as a result, he has been having persistent soft stools, however, it's been controlled with feeding Science Diet I/D food and Pepto-Bismol. What would be the best kind of home?:  Pudge would be perfectly happy to be an only dog getting all the attention lavished upon him; however, he is also fine with the other dogs in the household. Pudge is ideal for someone who wants a calm, easy going companion. He is not a hiking, running, or hunting dog by any means.  Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy: Please know that 100% of our fees and donations pay for the costs of rescuing dogs. These include but are not limited to pull fees from shelters, veterinary examinations, vaccinations, medications and care, microchips, neuter/spay surgeries, heartworm treatments, behavior evaluations, and foster care, as needed.
