Foster Homes Needed! Do you have time and room in your life for a foster dog? http://www.muttloverescue.org/foster.html *****************   Brenda is a 10-month-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix. She’s very affectionate and gets along wonderfully with her foster sister. She also enjoys weekly playdates with other neighborhood dogs. While she’s dog-friendly, she can get a bit anxious and bark when meeting new friends on leash, so introductions in a relaxed setting work best. Brenda loves car rides, snacking on bananas, and snoring while snuggled up to her people. But her ultimate joy? Finding the perfect stick outside, because why chase a ball when you can carry a tree branch?  **BECAUSE OF OUR REQUIREMENT FOR A HOME VISIT, WE ARE ONLY ABLE TO ADOPT TO HOMES IN THE NORTHERN VA / MARYLAND / DC METRO AREA** We have adoption events EVERY SATURDAY from 12-3 p.m. Please note that not all dogs can attend every event, so if you are interested in meeting a particular dog, please complete a no-obligation application on our website at http://www.muttloverescue.org/application.html OR write to adopt@muttloverescue.org. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Hi there, It's me Finnick. If you have a few minutes I would love to tell you all about me. I have been living in a shelter since I was 8 weeks old. Yes, you read that correctly. I spent my entire life in a cold rural shelter. The question is why. I wish I knew. Anyone who visited the shelter would walk right past me. I overheard some folks saying they don't want a pit mix. I'm not sure why. I am such a sweet boy and all I want is a loving home where my people will provide me with shelter, food, and love. Lots of love. Want to hear some fun facts about me? Good. I'm glad you do. I am 1. A great listener. If you ask me to sit, I will sit. If you say no, I will listen and stop. Not many dogs can say that. Can they? 2. I love belly rubs. I think that is one of my favorite things. In return, I will give you lots of kisses. 3. I love crawling on my belly in the grass and rolling around in it. You should look at the videos on the website. 4. I walk great on a leash. I don't pull at all. 5. I enjoy the outdoors and will go on hikes or walks with anyone. 6. I am treat motivated. I love my food. 7. I know many commands. 8. I am playful. 9. I love playing in the water. 10. I love car rides and I sit or lay in there quietly. So, I am afraid of some sounds and movement. I am just learning about all the great things in this big world from the many wonderful people who take me out. I saw and heard a fire truck for the first time. I learned they are loud and drive very fast. I also learned that I don't appreciate loud sirens. It scared me at first, but I am beginning to get used to it while out on daily outings. I have learned the world is not a scary place. I just need to trust my people and take it one step at a time. I may bark at first, but I warm up quickly. The staff at Homeward Trails say I am nothing next to perfect and anyone that passes me up is missing out on the most loyal and amazing companion you will find. I agree with them. How about you come out to Trails Home Farm to visit and get to know me yourself? I promise you won't be disappointed. ESTIMATE WEIGHT FULL GROWN: 55 lbs KNOWN WITH DOGS: Finnick likes to walk with other dogs. Finnick can be a resource guarder, so we recommend for him to be the only dog in the home. KNOWN WITH CATS: We do not currently know how they are with cats. If that is needed, let us know and we'll work on getting that information! Hi!!! My name is Leah. But, my foster mom calls me Yoda because I have wonderfully independent ears! I am crate trained, house broken and walk well on the leash. I enjoy car rides and am a perfect co-pilot. I only chew on toys for aggressive chewers. I don't bother anything that isn't a toy. I love the outdoors and playing with my foster canine brother. My foster canine sister is older, and while I stay in touch with her, I give her space to snooze or whatever. I have impeccable house manners, and the best place to be is by your side. I am a little shy but love attention, and take direction well. I am very food motivated, but treats should be taken gently! I hope to meet you soon! Thank you for your interest in Leah! Please visit www.hart90.org/petdetail.aspx?ID=18088 to get the most up-to-date and accurate information on this pet, to email the contact person listed for more information and how to meet Leah, or to submit an online application. Athena is a very loving and energetic dog. Loves long walks/runs but is also okay just laying around in bed or on the couch as long as she's right next/on top of you. Doesn't bark much but has her moments. She's currently living with 2 other dogs and 2 cats. I think she'll get along in a home with other pets as long as owner gives a long introduction. It took her about 2.5 weeks to get used to Mabel. She's house trained, crate trained, food trained and knows most commands. SHE LOVES WALKS! Even just the word "walk" will set her into an explosion of excitement. She will need room to run! We have about .5 acres and she will run for an hour or more each morning and afternoon. I'm not sure what else you need to know but if anything, just ask.

Story
Meet Trevor! Trevor was spotted roaming around PG County as a stray for over a week, a county that has historically banned his breed. He was seen going up to walkers and other dogs on the street seeking attention and was clearly a young dog. WDR adopter and local animal advocate, Pink, was worried for his safety and brought him home. Trevor is the 5th dog Pink has rescued from her Riverdale, MD community, and WDR has found forever homes for each of them. Now it’s Trevor’s turn. Trevor is currently bunking with Pink and WDR alum Bella. He easily integrated into their home and has become good pals with Bella. He wants to play with her but also respects her space, and he seems most content if she’s around. If he notices she’s out of view, he will anxiously start searching for her. Trevor quickly picked up on the rules of home life - he is housetrained and has learned how to use the doggy door. Pink reports he is very well-mannered in the home, with no running or unscheduled chewing. He will bark at noises and people outside, but that improves as he settles in and got more familiar. While Trevor is a young pup he has a moderate energy level. He loves going on walks but needs work on his leash skills. He gets two daily walks and some playtime in the yard for fetch and romping with Bella. He likes to play catch but after a few throws, he gets bored. Mostly he wants to follow Pink around the house and cuddle when she settles down. He loves a bone to chew on and enjoys his toys, but more so when he and Bella compete for the same one. They have done very well sharing. We checked in with Pink for a quick Q&A: Personality? Confident for sure and very snuggly! Have you seen him around kids? I have not seen him around young kids - but I think being kind of a puppy himself, he’d be great with them. I think he would cuddle up and watch Dora the Explorer all day long if you let him and be very gentle. Does he meet new people and other dogs well? He greets new people and visitors very well. He's had a mixed experience meeting new dogs. He did well meeting my friend's female German Shepherd who visited us but reacted to another friend’s male dog. He needs a gradual, managed introductions to new dogs. Trevor is a delightful dog to have around. He is so happy with his routine! He enjoys mealtime - he has quite the appetite! He enjoys Bella’s company and has certainly taken the role as her little brother. He wants to hang out with her, but his main focus is the human. He is very cuddly and simply adores attention. He will sleep through the night and only gets up in the morning when I get up. I fall in love with all dogs I take in, but if there were to be a favorite, I would say Trevor is the one." What I love about Trevor: So smart So handsome So cuddly So well behaved (at home) So connected with me/humans I love that he’ll get up in the morning when we (Bella and I) get up I love that when he is done at mealtime he won’t bother Bella if she’s not I love that he follows Bella inside when I leave for work and that they are both looking out the window with joy when I pull up   FOSTER MOM UPDATE - 8/15/24 Trevor does well with his bestie, Bella, BUT has some challenges meeting new and unknown dogs on leash. We brought in a trainer to assess Trevor and work with Pink to improve his leash skills. The trainer feels that much of Trevor's reactivity comes from uncertainty and not knowing what to do on leash vs. aggression. He is reactive and lacks confidence in what to do. He will bark/lunge to avoid interaction with unfamiliar pups and really needs a leader who will work with him and teach him what's expected. He needs repeated exposure to work through his uncertainty. After two sessions, we checked in with Pink for a training update: "He is doing better - He doesn’t react to dogs in their own yards anymore, but still will react to dogs passing by nearby. He pulls when I walk with Bella, but if he is pulling too much, I stop and he walks back towards me and slows down his stride. Improvement is steady, I would say!" ******* We are looking for a loving family with dog experience (preferably someone who has worked with leash reactivity) to help Trevor be his best self. He's such a sweet boy with a social nature and a great disposition with all people. He's good with kids too and can have good a positive dog relationship, but it needs to be the right match. He'll need his new family to have patience and do a gradual introduction to make it work.  Apply for this handsome boy today!   BREED ESTIMATE: AmStaff (Bully) GENDER: Male APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  55 lbs  APPROXIMATE AGE: ~  14 mos COAT TYPE:  short coat ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/neutered/microchipped LOCATION:  Riverdale, MD   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Story
Meet Twix. This handsome Bully boy was found tied to a pole as a very young pup. Thankfully, a Good Samaritan saw him, took him in, and ensured he found his way to rescue. Twix has proven to be a vibrant, sweet, and smart boy, and we are thrilled to help him find his forever home. Twix is living with seasoned fosters, Laine and Gary, who have four dogs of their own. He was an easy introduction to their pack and quickly formed a bond with Ziege, their youngest dog, who is about his size. Twix thrives in an active environment and enjoys rough-and-tumble play, making him best suited for a home with a dog his size or larger who shares his energy and play style. Laine shared, “Twix is very sweet and knows his name, comes when called, knows how to sit, and loves his belly rubs. He loves to play chase with Girl and Ziege, and tug-of-war is his favorite game. He gets in the kiddie pools a lot and just about anything is a toy to him — my shoes, the laundry basket. He does great meeting new people and will talk to you from time to time. It’s the cutest thing.” Twix has shown himself to be adaptable and eager to learn. He’s housetrained, crate-trained, and has started mastering basic commands. He rides great in the car and does well meeting new people and other dogs. He has decent leash skills; he may pull a bit but improves with practice. Twix is very treat-motivated and learns quickly, so continued training in his new home will be a rewarding experience for both him and his adopters. He’s still a young pup who can get into mischief if bored or left to his own devices, so structure will be important for him. We believe that Twix will need an active home. He’d thrive with a family who appreciates his fun and goofy personality and is committed to giving him the structure and love he deserves. While he loves the company of other dogs, Twix would also be happy as the center of attention in a single dog home, provided he has plenty of interaction and activity. This lovable boy has so much to offer and is ready to bring joy, laughter, and unconditional love to his new family. If you’re looking for a loyal, active, and playful companion, Twix might just be the perfect fit for you. Apply today!   BREED ESTIMATE:  American Staffordshire/Bulldog/Bully Mix = Super cute! Story
Forrest is a very loving dog looking for an owner who will want to take care of him for his last years. He is 6 years old and healthy with no history of any medical problems. He is friendly with people but would advise he is not friendly with small children and toddlers that are about as tall as he is. He is able to be friendly with other dogs but will need adjustment time with them, he only shows aggression with toys. He will allow petting and loving to him. He is potty trained and is very calm and will usually sleep during the day but enjoys playing outside and walks whenever he is taken. He eats almost anything and usually isn’t picky. He is very good whenever taken to the vet or groomers for routine visits as we have never had any complaints about having to treat him. Just a sweet boy who needs attention from someone who will give him for the rest of his happy life. Please feel free to contact me with any further questions I am happy to answer.

He loves to engage with his environment, whether he’s chasing after toys, exploring new places, or curling up for some cozy cuddle time.
