Story
RESILIENT SPIRIT AND BIG HEART  DOB 3/1/22, Weight 50 lbs.  Hey there, everyone! I’m Amigo, and I’m a sweet, gentle white American Staffordshire Terrier mix fella. I’m well-named because “amigo” means “friend” in Spanish, and that’s what I want to be --- your friend. I was initially shy when I first met my Foster Mom, but once I warmed up to her by learning that she’s gentle and that I can trust her, I’ve been a happy canine marshmallow ever since. I adore going on walks with her as well as when she trains me because they’re great bonding times for us. Playtime is my favorite part of my day, and she has several dogs that fill the bill – especially the girls and the small ones. You see, I was found hiding in some bushes at the pool in my foster mom’s neighborhood. I had a lot of emotional scars from the way hoomans had treated me as a stray, so I was terrified of the Good Samaritan who tried to catch me. Thank heavens that he was persistent, and his consistent gentleness convinced me that he had my best interests at heart. It’s amazing how resilient I’ve become as I've learned that not all hoomans are scary. True confessions: I still get a little scared on adoption days – but there’s the chaos of barking dogs and swarms of people. However, I love treats, and they save the day for me at adoption events! I’ve come such a long way in my socialization that I’m pretty proud of myself – and so is Foster Mom! So it’s time for me to find my forever family. I’m gentle and loving, sweet-natured, extremely loyal, trustworthy, and affectionate -- which all add up to making me an ideal family dog. And did I mention that I’m eager to please and possess a very all-round mild, playful, pleasant temperament? Arrange to meet me today! I want nothing more than a loving, patient home where my hooman will let me blossom into the true “amigo” I was meant to be!  HOPE ID: D24-0224-0005 If you are interested in Amigo and would like to fill out a Dog Adoption Application, please go to: http://www.homelesspets.net/adoption-forms/dog-adoption.php . Submitting an application does not obligate you to adopt from us but it initiates contact with us and gets the process started. Story
Estimated DOB 11/1/2023, weight 55 pounds Beefcake is a master of disguise – we’ve come to learn that he’s actually a Golden Retriever stuck in his big-boy Am Staff body. He’s an absolute goofball! Beefcake plays wonderfully with other dogs and loves to play tag and wrestle but, with a little boundary help from his humans, he is also respectful of dogs that may not be interested in playing. If there aren’t any dogs to play with, he also enjoys a game of tug or fetch with his foster humans! He would love to have a doggie sibling (especially one that loves to play with him) but would also be just fine as a solo pup. If you’re looking for a weighted blanket, look no further! In the house, Beefcake transforms into a loaf, and his preferred cuddle position is directly on top of you. He’ll never say no to a movie night, but he has no preference on genre, so it’s your pick every night! He’s very quiet and isn’t bothered by outside noises/ sights (e.g., lawnmowers, garbage trucks, passing dogs, etc.), so he makes for a great work-from-home partner too. He’s house-trained and crate-trained. He loves to learn – he knows how to sit, walks well on a leash (except when he sees a squirrel), is working on his “place” command, and is generally keen to learn new things. Other things to know about this goofy boy: + He has a high prey drive for squirrels. We’re working on this every day, and he’s improving, but his new family should be prepared to help him continue working through this to ensure walks are enjoyable for everyone. + He’s interested in the neighborhood outdoor cats and has politely met one that was lying down. However, with his prey drive, he may be better in a home without cats. + He doesn’t live with a child in his foster home, but he has been fine around them at weekend adoptions, and he has walked past them in close proximity/ watched them at the Farmer’s Market as well as the park and didn’t seem bothered or overly interested. We think he’d be okay in a home with kids but would be best if they’re older, given his size and energy levels. Story
If you would like more information about Ryder or are interested in adopting him, please send an email to andrewcc22@gmail.com or contact this number, 281-635-1988 Ryder is potty & crate trained, neutered, and fully vaccinated. He is good on a leash, not a picky eater, knows basic commands and will learn more commands easily. He loves his humans (all shapes and sizes), walks, and being silly. Ryder is friendly around other dogs but may be a little food/human protective until he gets to know them. He is not compatible with cats. A home with no pets or non-reactive dogs, regular exercise, and an experienced owner would be best. He's had a few home changes due to his humans’ work schedules. Due to this, he does sometimes experience separation anxiety so his new human will need to work remotely. This has improved substantially at his foster home with training and will continue to improve with a permanent home and positive training. He will thrive in a patient and loving home. Please help us give Ryder the loving home he deserves. Story
LOVES BELLY RUBS AND GIVES KISSES  Est. DOB 10/8/18, Weight ~ 65 lbs I’m Buster, a sweet, happy, eager-to-please, playful Boxer/ Black Mouth Cur mix fella who loves “marathon” belly rubs and snuggling for hours with my human dad on the sofa or the bed. When he sits on the floor with me, I love to lie across his lap and give kisses. I’m very loyal and doting with my human dad, with whom I’ve bonded tremendously, and I follow him everywhere. I’m respectful and trustworthy with children outside the coffee shop and on walks. A bonus is that I have a very soft mouth when I take treats and toys. Speaking of walks, I love them! But, True Confessions – I’m working on my leash manners so I don’t get overly stimulated by cats, squirrels, or certain other dogs. I do enjoy the company of certain other dogs, whether playing or lounging around together, but I'm rather selective.  Moderate exercise not only stimulates me physically but mentally too. I’ve been through obedience training and I “sit,” “down,” and “place” on command (for the most part). The trainer says that I’m a quick learner because of my treat-motivation. I’ve had a rotating cast of dog walkers, and they all applaud how people-friendly I am. With proper introductions, I meet new people and strangers easily – with the exception of people who ring that annoying doorbell. I’ve come a long way from when I was rescued at BARC, Houston’s City shelter. You know, there are advantages to adopting an adult dog like me who’s past the stage of puppy-craziness. I’m crate-trained and know how to use the doggy door. I’m not a digger and I don’t destroy anything that isn’t a toy -- other than a couple of pillows. I’ve been a loving adopted canine brother for many months but now my canine brother's anxiety has gotten worse, to the point where it is hard for us to be together therefore it’s better that I find a new home since he was here first.  So, I’m available for adoption again! If you’re looking for a big, gentle boy who’s a bundle of love, I fit the bill!! And I’m flexible – I can live in an apartment as long as I get adequate exercise or a home with a backyard for chasing the tennis ball.  I’d love to be the star of the show and get all of your love, i.e., not have to share you with another dog in the home, but I’d still like going to Day Care and play dates with my canine friends. Arrange to meet me, and remember, I’ve never met a stranger! Story
Winslow maybe 11 years young but he still has so much life in him. He plays with his foster brother Beemo, both saved from a high kill shelter of Houston. Winslow is a very sweet, calm, extremely loving big baby, who enjoys hanging out in his foster mom's yard, and lay around in the sun. He is also very obedient, housebroken, extremely intelligent, and gorgeous. He doesn't have any guarding tendency and is very submissive. He will do great in a quiet home, with or without another dog. Winslow is about 11 years old, 60 lb, has all his shots, and is neutered, microchipped and kept on heartworm and flea preventative. He is being fostered in Texas, but can travel to many states and even Canada for the right home. To meet this adorable pup, please send a completed application via www.savesomesouls.com
