Story
Arya is a lovable shelter dog who is in search of her forever home. She is a 47 lb female American Staffordshire Terrier and Lab Mix with a stunning deep chocolate coat that appears almost black, earning her the affectionate nickname "Brown Sugar" from her foster dad. Arya was brought to the Darlington County Humane Society on 7/27/2023 with an injured leg, which limited her ability to play and raised concerns about her interactions with other dogs.Sadly, due to overcrowding and concerns about behavior issues, Arya found herself on a euthanasia list. However, fate intervened when her foster mom heard about her situation and immediately visited Arya at the shelter. In a heartwarming moment, Arya climbed into her lap and gave her one of her signature hugs. Touched by this sweet and affectionate gesture, her foster mom decided to take a leap of faith and brought Arya home instead.Arya quickly adapted to her foster family, consisting of eight other dogs, including one with a neurological disorder. Her gentle and friendly nature allowed her to seamlessly integrate into the pack, getting along well with every member. Arya's foster family describes her as loving, resilient, and a true joy to be around.Arya's personality is as delightful as her appearance. She is a playful and energetic dog who loves nothing more than engaging in fun activities. Whether it's a game of fetch, going for a long walk, or exploring the outdoors, Arya is always up for an adventure. Her injured leg has healed completely, leaving only a few very small scars, as she continues to show her zest for life.Along with her playful nature, Arya is incredibly affectionate. She showers her foster family with love, giving them her signature hugs that melt hearts. She thrives on human companionship and cherishes any opportunity to be near her loved ones. Whether it's snuggling on the couch, receiving belly rubs, or simply being by your side, Arya is happiest when she can shower her humans with affection.Being an eager-to-please dog, Arya is quick to learn and follows commands with enthusiasm. She quickly adapted to crate training and learned basic commands. She is a smart girl who is eager to please and would thrive with an owner who is willing to provide consistent training and positive reinforcement. With her combination of intelligence and willingness to learn, Arya could excel in various activities such as obedience training or agility.Overall, Arya's personality shines through her playful nature, affectionate demeanor, and her eagerness to please. She is a loyal and loving companion who is ready to bring endless joy to her forever home.Leaving the past far behind her, Arya is now on a journey to find her forever home where she can continue to spread love and joy. If you're looking for a loyal and affectionate companion, Arya might just be the perfect match for you. Give this amazing dog a chance, and she will reward you with endless love and companionship.

Story
Bobo is currently in a foster home, but would love his own family.I love my boy, Bobo. He's the KING of zero accidents in the house. We're still working on leash training. He'd way rather do zoomies in the yard than walk on a leash, but he always comes back. He's super playful, and loves playing with other dogs. He is definitely higher energy, which is why I always try to give him lots of time to run in the yard, but he knows how to chill out on the couch, too. He plays nice with both my male and female dogs and does not exhibit any kind of resource guarding. He would be best paired with an active family and/or other younger, playful dogs. Sometimes he doesn't understand his size and probably would do better with older children. He already knows sit, down, and shake! He'll gladly show you for a treat, which he takes quite gently. Bobo is an easy foster who has never been destructive and knows how to preoccupy himself with a Buffalo horn or stuffed Kong. He's one that I have no problem keeping for as long as he needs, but I just know there is something more out there for him 💕🔹️ A little over a year old🔹️ Around 40 lbs.🔹️ American Staffordshire Mix🔹️ HEARTWORM NEGATIVE!🔹️ Dog Friendly 🐕 ❤️ 🔹️ 100% Housebroken 🔹️ Life of the Party 🥳 🤡🔹️ Knows basic Obedience ❇️ Dog-friendly kitties may be an okay housemate for Bobo, but would need slow introduction6/29/24 Update: Update on Bobo since he's been in foster. He's less stressed, and he's been able to gain weight. He loves to play with friends and snuggle. He's hoping for an active family that can let him play often. He's a wonderful boy, and as his fosters, we love him dearly, but we want so much more for him. We want him to have the loving family of his dreams that will take him on adventures, even if that's just in the backyard to play frisbee or catch. He's a go with the flow kind of guy and appreciates every bit of kindness that is offered to him, and that's why we think he deserves the very best!

Story
Who can help us with Smoke? He arrived to us as an owner surrender when they couldn't care for him. He was missing hair and had a wiggle-waggle to his walk. Nothing showed on x-ray so his wiggle is likely neurological from birth and simply makes him the special boy he is. He is 1.5 years young, 55lbs and heartworm positive. His gait overall has improved under the wonderful care of our Bridge facility where he has received the nutrition needed and his coat filled in nicely. He is very handsome and his wiggle-waggle just makes him super-duper adorable while not slowing him down a bit. He is truly the happiest boy around that mixes and mingles with everyone nicely, running and playing right along with the other dogs. July 8 day trip with volunteer…What I did today….Field trip! Darlington County Humane Society Bridge Facility to pick up my boy, Smoke, for a day trip to give him a break from kennel life! Then off to Purrs McBarkin' for some treats (to share with all of his buddies at Bridge). And a field trip would not be complete without a stop at the Sonic for a cheeseburger! Then off to Lawton Park for a picnic to eat said cheeseburger. Last stop before heading back to Bridge was at a lemonade stand run by the 2 cutest little girls raising money for St. Jude. And these 2 little girls have a doggie sister named Ellie who is a former Darlington Darling that spent some time at Bridge. Seriously though, why is Smoke not rescued or adopted yet?!?! Is it because he’s a little different? Yes, we think he has a slight neurological issue but that doesn’t stop him. Besides, aren’t we all a little different? Let me tell you how awesome Smoke is! Not only does he have what I call a whimsical little trot, but he is a friendly young dog who gets along with other dogs. He did so great on his outing today. Loved the Jeep ride even with part of the roof off! Well mannered, quiet. Loved seeing the little girls- tried to kiss them through the windows. Smoke soaked up all the attention he could on our field trip. He’s like a love sponge. Smoke is a happy boy who is confident and special.4/12/24 Foster Update: Don't let the adorable factor fool you – Smoke, a special 2-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier mix, has a heart that shines brighter than the snow white "blaze" that adorns his face against his magnificent gray coat. While a neurological disorder gives him a unique, happy-go-lucky gait, Smoke's spirit is anything but unsteady. This playful pup isn't slowed down one bit. He delights in galloping across the yard, chasing toys with boundless enthusiasm, then melts into a puddle of contentment for a cuddle session on the couch. He doesn't mind sharing his space with other dogs and often looks to them to snuggle up, too, if they'll let him. Completely housebroken and crate-trained, Smoke adapts easily to his surroundings – a perfect quality for someone seeking a loving, low-maintenance companion. Both of his fosters work full-time and he has no issues waiting for them to get home without having any accidents. Sometimes, he might get so excited to come out and play that he might slip and fall down when let out, but he hops right back up and acts like nothing happened. His wobbly walk might be his signature move, but Smoke's zest for life is what truly defines him. He's a dog who thrives on playtime, be it a rousing game of fetch or a refreshing dip in the kiddie pool with his toes dipped in during those hot summer days! This charming dog with a heart of gold is ready to steal the heart of someone special – could it be you? Imagine the joy Smoke would bring to your life with his infectious enthusiasm and unwavering loyalty. We hope someone will choose him and love him the way the volunteers and his fosters have.

Deputy Dawg is a shy boy who made fast friends with Clove. They enjoyed sharing time together in the play yard, simply laying next to each other. Deputy Dawg did some mingling with Charlie and Alfred Von Wigglebottoms, sniffing and going on his way to check out the dog run. He is a very handsome brindle boxer/lab mix that was named for the white star on his neck.

Foster Update 10/13/24: Alicia (aka Bunny) is beautiful and such a great girl. She's crate trained and house broken. After introductions to dogs, she then builds a strong friendship with dogs. She warms our heart and has won over my husband. She makes a wonderful companion and is very EASY. She’s low key with the cutest body language. She bows, hops and drops onto her back for a belly rub. Such a sweet girl. She's a doll baby!
