Story
Hi there! My name is Josephine. Thanks for checking out my bio! I'm roughly 4 years old, but a true lady never reveals her age. Other than that, I don't have many secrets, and I have so much to tell you! I currently live with 3 other dogs, and I love all of them. I've also met some dogs on my various outings, and I think all of them have been super cool. I love to chew on toys and am happy to chill and hang out wherever you are, so I'm an ideal work from home buddy. I love pets, and I'm not shy about letting you know when I'm ready for them. No playing hard to get here-I'm a girl who knows what she wants! However, I don't like to yell or talk loudly and would much rather whisper sweet stories in your ear. In the mornings or when something exciting happens, I'll talk (grunt/grumble) up a storm, but overall, I'm a pretty quiet gal. I like to sleep in my pen at night and for naps during the day. A woman needs her beauty sleep. So, see...I'm sort of perfect! Now that I've won you over with all of my charm, let's get real with each other. I was in pretty rough shape when my foster humans found me, and they've done so much to help me. But just like everyone, I'm still a work in progress. I'm heartworm positive but have already completed all of my treatment. So now I just have to wait a few months to get retested and get that negative test result back to be officially heartworm free. Not so bad, right?! I also came to them unable to use my back legs. I do have feeling in them; they just don't like to talk to my brain right now. Maybe that's why I like to chat so much-to make up for my silly legs! The good news is I can get around really well with my front legs. I can scoot on the floor all by myself, or if you're up for some teamwork, I can walk around while you hold my back legs up with a sling. I also have a really cool wheelchair. Using it is a lot of work and can be tiring, but I love using it for short distances or to walk around the yard like an independent woman! I'm going to physical therapy twice a week to help my legs talk to my brain and keep them nice and strong. It's a lot of work, but I'm making impressive progress. And I'll need my new humans to keep up my therapy so I can keep it up! I'm now able to stand on my own and even take a step or two! Let's find out together how far I can go! Finally, I know it's sometimes considered impolite to talk about bathroom stuff. But with a pup like me, it's best to be up front. I know to do my business outside, but because I'm paralyzed in my back end, I have some trouble in that department. Poops are pretty easy most of the time. I just need extra help getting in position and balancing. Going pee is a little more difficult for me. It's hard for me to get everything out, so I'll need my new humans to assist me and express my bladder. But don't worry, my foster humans can show you how! And I like to think of all of this as a unique bonding opportunity! I know some of this might seem a bit overwhelming, but I have no doubt the perfect family is out there for me! Plus, my foster humans are ready to help answer any and all questions, so let's talk more and see if we're a match!

Story
Hi! My name is Isabella, but you can call me Belly. I came to my foster mom with a big bald spot on my back because someone splashed something on me that burned off all my hair. Great news, though-I already have new hair growing in! I'm a 10-month-old pit bull/terrier mix, and I weigh about 30 pounds. I love to spend my days playing with my toys and soaking up the sun. I enjoy snuggling, but I'm also quite happy playing by myself. I can be a little scared to try new things, but with a bit of praise (and maybe a treat or two), you can help me build the confidence to go on any adventure! I haven't met any cats yet, but I love every dog I meet! I haven't met any kids either, and I'm still learning not to jump when I play, so I might be a bit overwhelming for really young children. I can get a little shy when meeting new people, but just give me some time, and we will quickly become best friends!

Story
Benji is around 1.5 years old and we believe he’s a Staffordshire mix. We found him a few months ago in terrible shape on our street. He has blossomed into an affectionate, loyal, and absolutely lovable dog. Benji is a natural snuggler—he loves to cozy up with his humans any chance he gets. He’s also incredibly well-behaved, a quick learner, sits on command, loves laying in the sunshine, and lives to make his people happy. He does great on car rides and has gone on many trips with us. His joy is contagious, and he loves with his whole heart. We believe that Benji, who has endured his own share of past trauma, is simply sensitive to loud barking, especially with out older male dog who is also reactive. Benji would do best in a one-dog household where he can be the center of attention and soak up all the love he deserves. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will be your best friend or know someone who is, and can offer him a calm environment where he’ll be showered with love.

Story
We first met Hank 5 years ago at our local shelter. We were told at the time that he was 2 years old, making him 7 now. We instantly fell in love with his sweet face and goofy personality, and took him home that day to integrate with our other dog and three cats. While things went well for a while, eventually Hank started showing signs of stress with the cats and began to chase them or lunge at them occasionally. This problem persisted and we eventually decided to get Hank training to help curb his prey drive. While immensely helpful, the training did not fully stop his prey drive, and he still has moments where he will lunge at or try to attack our pets. My wife is now pregnant with our first child, and while we currently have time to supervise Hank's interaction with the pets, we know that we will not be able to with a newborn. We love our friendly boy so much but know that he needs to be in a solo pet environment, and want to find him a home where he can be happy and free.

Story
We adopted Jordan as a puppy from a rescue agency at the end of 2021. He was born in the rescue and spent his first few months of life in loving foster homes. He is now 3 years old. He has a lot of character with ears that are floppy at the tips and a beautiful brindle coat. He has short legs but he loves to use them. He loves to have fun and run. He likes to play, to be pet, and to be a good boy. He really is a great dog. Our challenge with him is that we haven’t been able to give him the attention/exercise he needs since our youngest child was born. He is increasingly doing things suggesting he needs more than what we can offer such as darting out of the house and being slow to come back. Jordan needs a family who can give him attention and a better schedule, to train him, and give him the activity he needs. We love Jordan, but we are recognizing that he is not as happy as he could be. He is a great dog and know he will make another family very happy.

Story
My name is Lola and I came to the shelter when my previous owners could no longer care for me. I was shy on intake, but did well with all the vet care I needed to recieve. My previous owners report that I love car rides, I am good with children and I also seem to get along well with other dogs, but as always it is recommended that I have slow and monitored introductions between any people or pets already in the home over a period of time. I would also benefit from a home without any small animals or livestock as I do not do well with them, so please keep this in mind when considering me for adoption. Come meet me today!

Django is a wonderful 3 year old friend. He can be very shy and timid at times, but with some encouragement, his confidence shines through! He is great with cats, dogs, and babies but seems to get uncomfortable around toddlers. He loves cuddles, playing fetch, and to keep you close company all day❤️

Story
Walter is a very sweet, 4 month old American Staffordshire Terrior (pitbull) puppy. He’s potty trained and learning commands like sit, stay, etc. He’s very food and treat motivated and learns quickly. He’s current on all his vaccinations and is kennel trained and sleeps through the night. He’s friendly with other dogs and kids and loves the dog park. We wish we could keep him, but we have a toddler and a baby on the way and we sadly don’t have enough time to devote to him. We’re hoping to find a home for him where he can run and play. He comes with a crate, toys, bed, shampoo, treats, leash, collar, and some food.

Story
Our family will be moving cross-country to California next summer for a one-year work-related obligation. We have been brainstorming ways to transport our 9-yr old Pit Mix, Wilbur, with our vet. We’ve cared for Wilbur since we rescued him from the Wake County SPCA in August of 2018. Since then, he has been a beloved member of our household. We do not know what his background is, except that he has a BB pellet scarred into his ear and foreign bodies in his skin that led us to believe he was not in a loving home. We have two toddler boys, ages 1 and 3, and Wilbur is like a brother to them. Unfortunately, he has severe anxiety when traveling, and we are afraid he will not survive the trip either flying or driving cross-country even with anti-anxiety medications on board. His vet is in agreement and recommends keeping him in state.
