Story
She is a 2 year old Am. Staff Terrier. We rescued Lucy back in May. My wife and I work outside of the home for 10 hours a day. We think Lucy needs a family that can be more present and be more active with her. She deserves a family that can spend more of their day with her. She has done great with children and other dogs. We just want to find a home for her that fills her needs. She is beautiful, smart, curious and does great on walks. She is very sweet and does not take up a lot of room as she small for here breed. While it breaks our heart, as we have come to love her we want the best for her. If you choose to adopt her we will give you all her stuff: Crate, food, beds, toys and leashes.

Story
Meet Misha the Magnificent, also known as Moo and Misha Moo by staff and volunteers. Misha has been at the shelter waiting for her forever family for WAY too long - almost two years! We love her playful spirit and all of the people who meet her will tell you she gives the best hugs. She loves princess castles, sniffy walks and squeaky toys. Ask any of our staff or volunteers and they will tell you she gives THE best snuggles after a walk. And naps? YES! Misha likes to keep her bed area clean with the exception of her many toys she likes to keep with her. This perfect princess would like to be the only pet in her new kingdom, which has made it a bit harder for her to make her way out of the shelter. She is truly a sweet and gentle soul who will make a WONDERFUL addition to a family that has time to snuggle with her, and her devotion to her 'people' runs deep. Misha is spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines. Come meet Misha in person at the Kent County Animal Shelter.

Story
West is the Best! This handsome dude is a cool as a cucumber when it comes to exploring the world. Not one to over-excite with lots of noise and activity around him, taking walks is one of the things West enjoys the most! Not a frequent barker, he is one CHILL dude and a professional when it comes to car rides, just sitting there calmly and enjoying the scenery. He's a social charmer who likes meeting new people and wants to please his family. At 4 years old, he's well housetrained and behaves like a gentleman. West is currently living with a foster family, but he's ready to find his way to his own home, and make some serious bonds with the people who will love him forever! West is up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and neutered.

Story
Meet Marvelous Millie! Millie is another one of our long-term residents that has been waiting SO patiently for her family to find her. A staff and volunteer favorite, she does go out for field trips and overnights with glowing reports of good behavior upon her return. Millie is SMART - she knows how to sit, speak, wait and shake hands. Staff will tell you that she is motivated to learn and learns fast! Her favorite activities on field-trip days are snuggling on the couch and working on her perfect golden suntan! She is a great companion for walks and doesn't get overly excited with normal activities happening around her but does love to have some time to zoom around and play, too. She LOVES toys, LOVES to snuggle with her people, always wanting to have a paw on her person as a way of showing affection. Aside from her pile of favorite toys, Millie does keep a neat pen and doesn't tend to have 'accidents' on her field trips. She is SUCH a fun gal, its hard to believe she's been waiting this long for someone to see how truly awesome she is. Millie is up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and spayed.

Story
Dapper Dante is one of the MOST handsome dudes around! This 4-year old staffie mix is one big dude (around 80 lb) but don't let that fool you - he's a big softie! This amazing superhero mutt wears his tuxedo wherever he goes and always has a big smile on his face. Just one gaze into his big brown eyes and you can see that this big ol' boy just craves affection and attention from his people. He is an active dog, loves playing catch and toting his toys around, but does calm down for some cuddles. Dante is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, microchipped and ready to head to his forever home!

The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed. Adoptions are NOT first come, first served! We seek to choose the best fit for the approved adopter and pet. Please understand that these animals are still new to us and their needs and requirements can change at any time as we learn more about them. We will try our best to get them updated online as soon as possible. All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws. All dogs are also microchipped. Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization. The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.
