Story
Keela is around 2 years old and still all puppy! She’s a very active and smart lady that would like a family that keeps her engaged and out of mischief. She loves treat puzzles and learning new tricks, she’s already learned sit, lay, and rollover! A meet and greet with any companion dogs will need to happen prior to adoption. No kitties please. We require   that you have a fenced in yard, not a "kennel" in the yard AND we do not approve underground fencing. Depending upon the dog some exceptions are made for those who live in apartments.   We also require that the adoptee will be a part of the family "living" within the home. Our adoption process may be found on our website at www.bitofheaven.org Visits are scheduled by appointment only via emailing request to ownedbycaninesandlovit@yahoo.com   September 13, 2024, 12:05 am

Story
Indiana (Indy, Dr. Jones, Indiana Jones, Phd) is about a 9 month old puppy that was dumped on our road in June and showed up at our house covered in wounds and fly bites. We took her to the vet and had her cleaned/stitched up, and was found to not have a chip. After her stray hold we had her spayed and vaccinated. Unfortunately, our old queen bee of a dog does not like other dogs which has caused some problems. Indy is VERY food motivated and has been very quick to learn commands. We have taught her place, crate, stay, sit, down, and she does very well on walks and sits when you stop walking. She absolutely loves to be near people, and sleeps in our 9 year old son's bed. She would do best in a home without other dogs or maybe a male dog. She showed no reaction to the cats in our vet's office other than mild interest in sniffing them. She does try to chase cars a bit on walks still. We have also trained her on our wireless proximity fence. She's a great puppy who deserves a great home.

Story
Hi everyone, my name is Sota . I got to go to a foster home for a weekend a they want me to share their note! I went in looking for more of your “typical family dog” and ended up with this sweet little girl ! I know most people don’t go to the shelter to adopt a pit bull and she wasn’t my first choice either but they all deserve a chance to have a family to help out . I do not know much of Sota’s story because it was a very busy night trying to get as many animals out of the building as possible and was it very hectic at the time . Sota is definitely a female pit mix and is a real sweetheart ! I can’t remember if her tag said she was spayed or not yet . She seems fairly young . She has lots of energy and loves to play. She follows me around every step I make she’s right there . I am not certain how she is with children as I do not have any small children in my home . I feel as though she would be best being in a home without any other dogs or at least not one with 3 other females like I have . I also don’t see any signs of food aggression. I hand fed her and held a bowl for her while she was eating and even pulled the bowl away to slow her down . She did just fine . She also seems to be treat motivated . Soda loved her car ride to my house and did very well in the car, she had a bath after we got home and did very well with that too . She walks great with a harness and leash but pulls with the leash attached to the collar . She listens pretty well for a dog who has been in a shelter . She definitely loves being around people . We have had to keep her separate from our other dogs but have been giving her time alone with us in the house so that she has been able to be “part of the family”. She takes her treats very gently too . She has a bit of separation anxiety but only whines to be near us . For the most part she is potty trained and she has only had 1 accident which was in her crate while we were gone to work . She could benefit from a slow feed bowl as well . She has really enjoyed her stay with us and I’m sure she will be devastated when we have to take her back to the shelter . Unfortunately we can not keep her since we are full. The mess she made on the floor was a toy that was already torn up by one of ours and she just helped remove some more stuffing and had the best time doing it too! Please take a look at her and or many of the other cats and dogs at the shelter and consider adopting so these precious

Story
Seeley was found potentially hitchhiking on US 40 and brought to our shelter. We estimate him to be 8 yrs old and he weighs around 54 pounds. Staff describe his energy and medium high so a household where children are 12 or older would work best for him. He`s okay around female dogs and hasn`t showed interest in cats. The one thing Seeley is known for is being strong. He`s stayed in great shape while at our shelter.

Story
Clyde is a 70 pound sweetheart. He`s a little shy at first but if you just give him a chance he will warm up to you and show you his true personality. He loves to play with toys. He listens to instructions very well, but needs an assertive instructor. He can be energetic and plays too rough to be placed with children under 12 years of age. He tends to be more gentle with women when it comes to toy behavior. He loves tennis balls and playing fetch! He is not a fan of cats, but previously lived with a female dog and may do okay with female dogs. Clyde needs a lot of space to run and is waiting to find his forever family!
