Story
Imagine walking through a peaceful meadow. The sun is shining, birds are chirping, you have a loyal companion at your side. My name is Sadie, and if you adopt me, I will make every day feel just like that! I love to roll around in the grass and absorb all the sunshine. After I get some good back scratching out of the way, I’m a very laidback girl and just enjoy being next to you. I have spent time in a foster home, and my foster family reports I am fully housebroken, crate trained, and will keep myself occupied with toys. I lived with another dog previously and could potentially live with another respectful dog, but I do enjoy being the center of your attention and would prefer to be the only pet or live with other respectful dogs. Let’s take a walk together- ask to meet me today!

Story
Dobbie is...free? I sure hope so! I am Dobbie, and I`m a bit of a boy genius (I even know that socks belong to humans and not me, teehee). I am a fabulous student and know sit and down, and I`m extremely food motivated! My nose is legendary, and I really enjoy nosework games where I get to find all the snackos! I love toys (almost as much as bacon), and I will play ball with you as long as you would like! I can get zoomies on command, and I`m ready to roughhouse when you are, but when you say it`s nap time, I am more than happy to get a lil nappy nap in. I am fully housebroken, exceptional in a crate, and so well-mannered in the home. I can normally coexist with other respectful dogs, or I`d be totally content being your only pup. The only thing I`m still working on is my leash manners, and I can be a bit of a tank while I`m on walks. I would LOVE to have my own yard to frolic in or have an adopter who can help me on my journey to master leash manners (my staff friends here can tell you all about how to make that happen). I do come with a crate, a free training session, and a lifetime of cuddles! Let`s meet today!

Story
Shall we play ball? I am Gavin, and life with me would BE a ball! I’m a lively boy and will never say no to a game of tag or taking a nice romp out in nature. Making new friends, both people and other dogs, is always a fun time for me! I’ll admit, the ole leash manners will need some work, but I am well-mannered indoors, housebroken, and looove to wrap myself up and become the ultimate piggy in a blankie. I do know cats are not my cup of tea, and I don’t like to share my nom noms (kibbles), so I may do best in an adult only home. If my space is respected while I crunch and cronch on my dinner, I’m totally chill. I’ll seek you out when I’m ready for an ear massage, and once we are besties (which will be pretty soon), I will want the massages...a lot. I’m a fiercely loyal, silly boy and can’t wait to find my person! Is that you? Let’s find out!

Story
Are you looking for a family guy? I’m Stewie, and I’m that guy! I’m VERY well-known here for being fantastic with other dogs. I’ll do whatever the other dog is comfortable with, whether that’s a game of tag, wrestling, splooting and chilling, or sitting in the sprinklers. The humans here actually use me as a `tester dog,` so I`ve made hundreds of dog friends! I LOVE sprinklers and firmly believe sitting in the middle of one is key to maximum summer enjoyment. It might take me a moment to get comfy with strangers, and I’m still learning about riding in the car, but I’m affectionate to the max once we are pals. I’ve learned all about walking nicely on a leash and sitting for treats. I would definitely benefit from crate training because I think the world is a giant dog toy and might carry around your slippers when you’re not home, but my foster humans have been teaching me what’s actually fun to play with, and I’m super duper easy to redirect back onto my own stuffies. I can’t wait for my own house to play in and dream of having my own sprinkler. Please make my dreams come true today! Email foster@alachuacounty.us to set up a meet and greet with me!

Story
I am Stubby, a stout fellow with wee legs, a big head, and a GIGANTIC heart! I skip right alongside you when we go for a stroll together, and as soon as we reach our destination, I will sit in front of you, set my head in your lap, and stare at you lovingly. Head massages might be my most favorite thing, but Pupperonis are a very close second, so you shouldn`t have an issue teaching me more tricks. Playful dogs can be a bit overwhelming for me at times, but I think I`d be okay with other pups after a slow introduction. My current foster reports me as being housebroken, crate trained, and the most perfect low energy companion. Would it be alright if we shared a gentle cuddle soon? Very soon? Right now? Email foster@alachuacounty.us to set up a meet and greet with me today!

Not good with cats, Needs special attention, Needs experienced adopter, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Updated October 2023: Annie is a very special special needs dog. She is completely deaf, but very happy and athletic. She was born in September 2016 and is a happy 7 year old. She's looking for a very experienced adoptive home that can work with her and keep her safe. She's enthusiastic about everything she does. (Lately that's digging!) She is interested in playing with other dogs, but her cues and enthusiasm can be misunderstood - for those reasons, we'd prefer for her to be an only dog. She has a strong prey drive and cannot be placed with cats. She's crate trained. She's spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative and up-to-date on vaccines. If you'd like to learn more about her, call or text Jody at 352-316-5155 or email her at 2ndChRescue@gmail.com. - - - - - PS. Second Chance Rescue posts our pets on AdoptAPet.com. While we are grateful that AdoptAPet shares their information with partner sites, including Overstock and PetHarbor and others, we don't have any control over how frequently those partner sites update their content. Therefore, if you're interested in a particular animal, we encourage you to visit www.adoptapet.com/2ndChRescue/ for the most up-to-date status, description, pictures and/or video of a particular pet.

Look at those ears! Flint is a super chill lover who is bonded with his BFF, Fiona. They were both surrendered to us after their owner passed away and his family could no longer care for them. They LOVE people and attention! They will be best suited for a household where they are the only pets. They are absolutely wonderful companions who are eager to please and very intelligent. They love to play together, sleep together, go on car rides, explore, play in water, and hang out with their people. They will make the perfect addition to a loving family.

Story
Meet DakotaAge: 6 yearsBreed: Red American Staffordshire TerrierDakota is a sweet and affectionate girl who loves her walks and enjoys spending time in the water. She’s an easy walker on a loose leash, though she may need a little boost to get into the car.Dakota walked great alongside Whooper and even joined a Pack Walk on 8/25/24. Although her walker didn’t fill out a survey, Dakota did well on the outing. She pulled a bit on the leash but took treats gently and loved cooling off in the pool.Playgroup Behavior:Gentle Dainty Selective: Dakota can be selective with her dog friends. She’s a bit stiff during greetings and prefers to cruise around.Reactivity: She can be reactive to barriers and has a few awkward moments with other dogs.Corrections and Steering: Dakota sometimes over-corrects but is steerable by handlers. She shows minor assertive tendencies.Looking For:Dakota would thrive in a home where she can enjoy plenty of affection and time outdoors. She’s well-mannered on walks and loves to be near the water. If you’re looking for a dog who’s affectionate, easygoing, and full of love, Dakota is ready to be your loyal companion.

Story
Captain Goober came to us in bad shape. He had a very badly injured leg. We were lucky enough to get some funding from a special donor to the UF Small Animal Hospital and he was able to receive a very expensive and specialized surgery, and rehab to fix him. Captain was also very undersocialized with both humans and dogs. Due to this, he will likely time to warm up to any new people, but if you can be patient with him, he is such a good dog and has come so far! He also circles when nervous, but this is simply a soothing technique for him, and not a neurological concern. He absolutely is not fond of cats and should not go to a home with any cats or smaller animals. He has not been around children, but should be find with older kids, provided them give him time to warm up and let him come to them on his own. He would do best with a female dog that is playful but accepting of some pushy behvaiors. He will also have arthritis in his healed leg, and would do best on supplements. We are looking for an adopter with breed experience.
