Story
I am a 2yr American Staffordshire Terrier mix, that is smart, eager to please, with the best smile and the softest low shed coat. I am happy to chill or play; really whatever you want to do I will follow your lead because my goal is to just be around my people. My favorite things to do are to go for walks, ride in the car, fine dining, and play fetch or tug. I am a gold medalist in the cuddle department. I am a tank, so carrying around all this muscle makes me medium to low energy so I prefer multiple short walks a day. My foster parents say that I am extremely intelligent and really want to execute my cues properly. I have had 10 one on one training sessions. I lay down, sit, stay, go to my bed, walk on a leash well, I'm fully potty and crate trained and I LOVE treats which makes me a breeze to train! I do have a puppy brain so sometimes I black out, but overall I'm 95% perfect with bouts of deafness and it's hard for me to focus when I'm scared. Back in October of 2023, I was found on the side of the road. I was neglected, abused and thrown away like trash. I weighed half my body weight and couldn't even stand without shaking, I never had the chance to socialize or be a carefree puppy. My foster parents took me in and have been providing stability and teaching me how to be a dog. I am still very weary of strangers, particularly men, and can be unsure in new surroundings but I'm getting better every day. I even quit Army crawling around the block or hiding from the T.V. From my past abuse and neglect, I take some time to warm up to other dogs. I hate being barked at but will tolerate anything from my dog friends. I want to be liked by everyone so I'm working really hard at introducing myself properly. I currently live with two other dogs and accept that the 20lb, 13 year old dog is the boss. In an ideal world, I would be the center of attention. I am very curious about children and I'm always happy to see them but I like my space and time to process my surroundings without being overwhelmed or forced into interactions. Ideally I would prefer older children, 13 years and older, or a home with no children. I love toys that I can tug, shake, and pull the stuffing out of. If they squeak I am in heaven. I am good at fetch and will play until your arm is tired. I really need kindness, consistency, and continued training. New situations can be overwhelming to me, someone who is confident will allow me to calm down quickly. I am a goofy guy who will promise to make you smile and if you're introverted without a bunch of people coming into the house I would be really grateful. If you prove to be trustworthy, I will show you what love really is because I have so much to give. I may do best as an only dog and in a home with no children. My adoption fee includes a personalized training program.

Story
Ali is so full of love and energy. He is a 3-legged baby but that leg doesn’t slow him down. He loves hiking and the outdoors. He is a big baby that loves cuddles and toys. He does well with his sister, his brother and him have more recently not been getting along as well. If another dog in the home, I would definitely do a meet and greet. He is very playful so he would pair well with playful siblings as he will not let them just lay around.

Story
He was a homeless dog who used to travel the neighborhood. He never caused any issues, and we used to leave food and water out for him. We discovered he was not coming around; we found out that he was at the pound. We wanted to save him from possibly being euthanized and he is a sweet dog just needs a home. He is great with dogs and cats and kids. We have three other dogs and just need to find him a permanent home. The only issue he has is that he likes to break out of the yard. We have a fenced in backyard but he still finds a way to escape. The ideal situation would be if someone had a lot of land or an area that he can roam freely.

Story
Her name is Zara, she will be 5 in December! She is spayed, 100% American staffie, I have had her since she was 6 months so I do have all of her medical records, dna test and allergy/intolerance tests, she did have TPLO surgery in May of ‘23 and everything healed perfectly! She’s is an absolute cuddle bug! She loves being around people but because of my work schedule she is crated at home for 95% of the day.. She is high energy and she loves to play with her chuck it, if she could chase the ball for 8 hours straight I think she would! She is great with kids, and has done well with cats. She is dog reactive from being attacked when she was younger, she previously lived with a submissive male Great Dane and did fine with him but she does not do good with other females.

Story
Ziggy is a sweet boy that we are sad to have to rehome. He is a cuddler and loves to talk to you when he feels like he’s not getting enough attention. He should not live with other dogs or children and that is why we have to rehome him. He would be a great companion to anyone without children or other pets.

Story
From current family: Ruthie is a wonderful, med to high energy pup. She is an angel with kids (we have a 2 and 4yr old) andgood with other dogs. She goes to a doggy day care twice a week where they group play and has a blastand her previous foster had her living with 3 other dogs. She does have her moments with other pups butusually a quick correction or break and its all over. Zero food/treat aggression (can take anything from herat any time - my kids frequently hang out with her while she eats). Loves snuggles and being with herpeople. She does need a lot of training across the board (not sure she has any), will have accidents in thehouse, and chews anything that is left on the floor. She will also get into garbage. She would be best withan active person(s) who can give her the training and daily stimulation she needs (long walks/hikes orpuppy play dates etc). A household with another dog may be good too as she loves to play and that canhelp expend her energy! When she has been properly exercised and stimulated the chewing and hyperactivity goes away. We have a large yard with a dog door but that is not enough.   Ruth was previously adopted, but is looking for a better fit as the current family is unable to give Ruth the time needed for training. Ruth has shown protective behaviors against the adult male in the household.  From past foster: Ruth is an amazing, easy, playful, gentle and loving dog. She is not a barker, unless a stranger walks directly along the fence line of her home. Even then, it is not a loud bark. She gets along great with other dogs. She eats with those other dogs, and will even share a food bowl with them. No food aggression at all. She can free roam, and is not destructive. She has been great with people and kids. She loves squeaker toys. She loves to play and snuggle. Ruth had one biological puppy and adopted an abandoned litter and accepted them, nursed them and raised them as if they were her own. Once you meet Ruth you will fall instantly in love. Ruth was rescued from a high kill shelter in Texas. Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free Pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with Pet First pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##2057807##
