Story
Little Miss Coco may be on the smaller side, but she sure is full of personality! Coco came to us as a stray, so we don`t know about her history. She was shy when she first arrived, but it didn`t take her long to figure out who her new friends are! It may take a little time when you first meet her to pull at her heartstrings, and we`ve found that one of the fastest ways to get her to come out of her shell is a good game of fetch! Coco just loves toys! You know what else she loves? Going on walks with her friend, Cash! Walking next to her favorite shelter buddy makes her eyes light up! Coco really enjoys running around and wrestling with him, too. It does take a few strolls around the block for Coco to feel comfortable with other dogs, but we imagine she`ll be a good companion for another dog with slow introductions. We aren`t sure how Coco would do with cats at this time, and we do think she`d do best in a home with older kids due to her initial shy nature. Please give us a call to schedule an appointment to meet this precious girl, and we`ll answer any questions about Coco for you that we can!

Story
Fifi was still just a pup when the Animal Control Officer showed up. She hadn’t seen her humans in days. She waited and watched over her brother, a cat named Sal. Fifi still thought her people were coming back. Not realizing they were there to save her, she tried desperately to evade the uniformed intruder. She would not be bribed or tricked with sweet words and treats. She would not submit to go meekly along with her captor. Fifi would not abandon her brother; would not be taken from her home; would not give up on her family. Hunger and loneliness didn’t matter. She was not giving up. Obviously Animal Control wasn’t going to give up either. They were able to corral and get her safely to the Heritage Humane Society. Shaken. Scared. But also resilient. With heaps of patience, love, and time, the team at HHS slowly won her over. Fifi learned how to really trust a handful of us. We became her new humans. One at a time, she’s invited her chosen humans into the Fifi inner circle. Anointing us with hugs, kisses, and ear nibbles. Pro-level snuggles. Mandatory if you’re one of her humans. Off-limits if you’re not. Not everyone makes it into the inner circle. But once you’re in, you’re all the way in. It always takes time, and sometimes it just isn’t going to happen. She loves playing with toys, going for hikes, and couch potato time all the same. She can be mercurial. She can be aloof. She will be the most loyal companion you’ll ever have. If, of course, you’re one of the chosen.

Story
Hey there, I`m Major! I`m just over a year old and full of life. I`m friendly, goofy, and always up for a good laugh. I love playing around, especially with other dogs - they`re my best pals! Kids are pretty cool too, they have this energy that matches mine. I`m always ready for a fun game or a sweet cuddle. Life`s a playground and I`m eager to explore it with a family that loves a good belly laugh as much as a heartfelt snuggle. Adopt me and let`s make some joyful memories together!

Story
From the minute she arrived at the shelter Lark let us all know that she was going to be friends with everyone! She has enjoyed a few buddy walks with her friend John Doe and has been to several events in the community. Her behavior in the car was stellar and she enjoyed meeting new people while she was at Alewerks. She does jump a little so she would benefit from some training to help her learn some manners with younger kids. Come in and meet this beautiful brindle baby- she will steal your heart.

Story
John Doe came in as a stray last month and since then has made friends with the entire staff. He loves to play and cuddle. He doesn`t pull too much on his leash, but could definitely use a refresher course on walking manners. He has the cutest black spots all over his back! This sweetheart is also a sucker for a belly rub! Here is what an HHS volunteer wrote about John Doe after a Fido Field Trip to Colonial Williamsburg:`He couldn`t find just the right hat at Tarpley`s, but he was enthralled with the sheep down the road! He was a great walking companion and interested in every human and dog that passed by. He gave his `sweet puppy dog` look to everyone, and stopped people in their tracks who came back and gave him extra pets. John Doe was a well mannered passenger in the car, and is an all-around great companion! Please come visit him soon!`

Story
Meet Storm! She came to us pregnant and with heartworms from a shelter in rural North Carolina. Since then, she's raised her puppies (who've all found homes), been spayed, and successfully treated for heartworms. Storm is a 3 years old, 48-pound American Bully who's incredibly sweet! She's currently in foster care with dogs of all sizes and is doing great. Storm also gets along well with kids, and we've introduced her to cats but she is a little to interested so NO cats. She's a bit cautious around men, preferring to stay away from them if she can (she finds comfort in her crate). If you're looking for a loving new family member, Storm is the perfect choice! Remember, adopting a dog means committing to them for life. If you're interested in adopting Storm, please don't call. Instead, fill out an online application on 4 Paws Animal Rescue's website at www.4pawz.org. We verify the care history of past and current pets to ensure the best homes for our animals. We reserve the right to approve or deny applications based on what's best for the pet. #dogsareworthit #adoptdontshop #bullymix #rescueisthebestbreed #lovedogs #dogs #dogsareacommittment

Story
Meet Hero! He was adopted but unfortunately returned. This special guy deserves another chance! Hero is a 3-year-old mix of American Pitbull and Beagle, weighing 39 lbs. He's the type of dog that gets along well with every other dog and truly thrives in their company. Hero also does well with cats and older, savvy children. He's a fan of running and has even participated in a 5k. Hero knows many commands and does best with regular training sessions. He's eager to please his humans and is already housebroken and, crate trained. Having been let down before, Hero will need some time to adjust to a new home and expectations. His new family must understand that Hero is a lifelong commitment, and they need to be dedicated to providing him with daily exercise, ongoing training, and socialization. Remember, adopting a dog means committing to them for life. If you're interested in adopting Hero, please don't call. Instead, complete an online application on 4 Paws Animal Rescue's website at www.4pawz.org. We carefully review the care history of past and current pets. Story
This is my friend's dog, named Matianna, who is in need of a loving home! Here is some info about her: - She NEEDS to be in a home where she is with another dog her size; she loves small animals, but scares them with her size - Has blisters on her paws - VERY well-mannered, loves to show love! - Long overdue for a vet visit due to difficulty with vet costs - She has an unpleasant odor where the cause is unknown - Has dry skin - Her paws are swollen - There is a possible yeast infection between her toes Matianna desperately needs a loving home to spend her last years. My friend loves Matianna very much, but she wants her to be in a better home where she is properly taken care of.
