AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! SENIOR BULL! My name is Coney and I'm a 10-11 year old senior bull! Don't go signing me up for AARP just yet! I'm an active boy who has lots of life and energy left in me! I love to take walks and I live to carry a toy around in my mouth! I run and chase butterflies and yes, I do put those in my mouth too! I'm a loyal man who bonds deeply with the people who take care of me. Sometimes I think the people I love might need me to protect them from people I don't know! I'd me most successful in a quiet home with a single lady for me to adore! I cannot live with cats or small animals. I seem ok with some other dogs but have never lived with them. A home where I am your one and only is what I'm looking for! I may be an older man, but I promise to be the one who takes good care of you! Whadda ya say? I need just one person to make my dream of a forever home come true! A reduced adoption fee of $100 does apply for Coney, our seniors, special medical and behavioral needs dogs and other "slow to adopt" dogs! Augusta Dog Adoptions is an all- volunteer, foster- based rescue. We take applications online and are scheduling individual adoptions in the Waynesboro, VA area during the pandemic. A $175.00 adoption fee ($300 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries. Story
Now, I'm not the famous author, but I am just about the coolest dog that there ever was and I think that that is enough to help me make history, right? Hi there! I'm Bark Twain, a 5 year old Mixed Breed who is looking for a fresh start and partner to help me write down my happy tails. I am super handsome, super loving, and really ready to make someone happy. I am an active fella, who would love to have a buddy to go to the park with, to go hiking or fishing with, or to even just hang out in the backyard with. I am a fetch machine and love to play, play, play. When I'm not playing, I love tummy rubbins and learning new tricks. I am food motivated and enjoy learning new things, so I pick up on new commands quickly; I am really eager to make my people happy! I am a total ham and love any attention that I can get, so people of all ages are a-okay by me! Other than being just a smidge bouncy, I should be just fine with kiddos, if you are willing to make sure that I learn not to bounce on them! With other dogs, I'm kind of hit or miss, but no one is friends with everyone, right? I adore one of the girly dogs in my foster home and may be able to live with another calm, female companion. I would also be just fine being your only child and center of attention. The most remarkable thing about me is the size of my heart and my ability to devote myself to the people I love. You can count on me to snuggle you when you are sad and play with you when you are happy. I will be your loyal companion for life! Augusta Dog Adoptions is a 501c3, foster- based rescue. Story
Bricks is a 9 year old, pitbull mix who is absolutely built like a brick. Short, heavy, thick, brown-ish red. He's a low rider with tiny little legs and minimum ground clearance. Bricks is a charming little guy who likes to bounce, sniff and explore! He's happy, friendly and loves to cuddle up under a warm blanket. He was house trained but may need a refresher after being kenneled. He's excellent on-leash and is the perfect little partner to stroll with you around the neighborhood. Bricks was adopted out from a rescue years ago. Shortly, after being adopted from them, he stripped his collar while out for a walk and hurt another dog. Tougher than the 90's crime bill, Va law labeled Bricks as "dangerous" and he will pay for that mistake for the rest of his life. One strike, he's out. He's lucky he isn't dead. He was able to live at a sanctuary ran by that rescue but when they closed, Bricks had no where to go. Lucky for him, the President of Augusta Dog Adoptions is famililar with Va law and was willing to care for Bricks as legally required. Bricks can be adopted within the state of Va with additional requirements. But hey, we have good dogs that no one wants so the chances of that are slim to none. Brick's best chance of finding a home is out of state. He cannot go to a home with cats. He has been ok with some dogs but dominant/aggressive with others. The safest place for him is in a home without other pets. I don't know how to tell someone they should adopt a dog with such a label. You would just have to meet him for yourself. He's little and kind and cute and funny and he deserves to have a family who loves him. A reduced adoption fee of $100 does apply for Bricks, our seniors, special medical and behavioral needs dogs and other "slow to adopt" dogs! Story
PENIS AMPUTATION! Now that we have your attention....Meet Tywin! We want to tell you all about him and will get to the penis amputation part too. We promise! Tywin is a mixed breed dog who is about 4 years old and weighs 45 pounds. He came to us from our local shelter when they were full and in need of help. Tywin is the perfect gentleman in many ways! He has wonderul manners! He is trusty worthy inside the house and will patiently lounge on your couch when you are away from home. He loves the company of every human he has ever met and longs for the attention and stability of his own family. Tywin is also a lover of nature. He enjoys laying in the yard or by a sunny window, admiring the squirrels and dreaming up ways to catch them! When Tywin first came to us, we noticed that the "lipstick" never fully went back into the "tube". After several vet visits, it was decided that his best chance to be comfortable was to amputate the end of his penis. Tywin healed quickly and now functions completely normally. I bet you wouldn't even know what he was missing if we didn't tell you! We have put a lot of energy, love and financial resources into Tywin's care and hope to find a home that will value and treasure him as much as we do! Tywin cannot live with other dogs or cats but would be perfect for almost anyone who is looking for just one, well behaved, dog to adore! A reduced adoption fee of $100 does apply for Tywin, our seniors, special medical and behavioral needs dogs and other "slow to adopt" dogs! Story
My name is Lulu and I want to tell you a story of luck, both good....and bad. My bad luck started when I ended up in a rural, over crowded shelter. I was adopted twice (good luck!) and returned twice (bad luck! See how this is going to go?), once for chasing a cat and once for sleeping on the couch! I spent over 200 days in a kennel in a shelter!!! Bad luck! But they let me stay for over 200 days when they could have euthanized me after a week. Good luck! Then, I really hit the jackpot when an Augusta Dog Adoptions Foster Family offered to take me home and make me the luckiest girl in the world! I was all like....is this the Bellagio? or the MGM? The accomodations are immaculate and I'm thankful to be here! In my foster home, I am the perfect sister to an old dog, a young puppy and the most awesome pre-teen boy around! I sleep on the couch (yeah, that's right!), in the bed, play in the yard, ride in the car and help my foster mom do all of her house work! I'm a smart girl and I've been around long enough to learn some cool tricks! I'm 7 years old and 56 pounds and I know how to sit, shake with BOTH hands and lie down. I am just about perfect except that I get really stressed out if you leave me alone! Over 200 days in a shelter and bouncing around from house to house has taken it's toll on me. I'm afraid you will leave me and where I will end up if you don't come back. I need to be crated when you leave but I will pee and maybe even poo in there because I'm so upset. If you leave me and don't put him in a crate, I might tear down your blinds or eat a rug or something. I know that everyone has to leave the house sometimes but I sure do wish that I could find a family who is home most of the time and is willing to work with me. I promise to pay you back by doing the best I can and loving you more than anyone else ever has! So whadda ya say? Roll the dice, take a chance, I might be the best dog you could ever have! A reduced adoption fee of $100 does apply for Lulu, our seniors, special medical and behavioral needs dogs and other "slow to adopt" dogs! Story
Tater is truly one of a kind. Currently in a foster with a shelter staff member, we confidently report that he is SO goofy, playful, sweet and eager to please. He makes up for his slightly stubborn streak by being SO CUTE! He is a huge snuggler & very demanding about his lovins'! He'll burrow under the covers at night and will lay right on top of you if you're Netflix & Chillin' on the couch. Tater is the epitome of joy and goofiness once he's comfortable and is the most loving, loyal companion you could ask for! Also....he snores....loudly. His current K9 roommate is basically an older brother to Tater and is SO TOLERANT with his rough-housing ways. We think kids 15+ would be best for that reason - Tater knows not his size and strength. At the dog park, Tater LOVES to play with the other pups! He also currently co-exists with two cats! Only one will tolerate him even though he does the prance dance (he thinks everyone wants to play) but "leave it" corrects him, and Tater has never inflicted harm. Cat says, "nah, bro," but then will curl up in the same bed. With people, Tater has come a long way. Initially, he would growl, bark and jump on just about any guy who didn't already possess a confident, assertive presence. In recent months, they've worked hard to develop trust around humans and happily report that Tater might bark initially, but has absolutely calmed and is so much less fearful (unless his "weirdo" radar goes off - then, pay attention). Tater is crate-trained with the phrase, "go to your place," and is overall a submissive boy. He knows lots of other commands and phrases, too, including - BONUS - "dry your paws off!" for when it rains. Tater comes with his quirks, so emailing his SVASC foster mum for more details about this sweet doofus is the way to go! EMAIL: Claire, Outreach Coordinator, crattan@co.augusta.va.us updated 11/20/24

This gal is livin' large....literally! OK, so she could use a diet, but she did seem to have puppies recently, so her hefty size is understandable. Either way, this girl doesn't let anything slow her down! She's sweet as pie and only wants to please! Give her some lovin' and a belly rub, and she'll adore you eternally. Her previous owner could no longers take care of her, but YOU COULD! We're unsure how she interacts with other dogs yet, but she'd probably be great with kids since she's so smiley and wiggly. Just beware of the heft! Call the shelter to set up a meet & greet! updated: 10/31/24

Boogie is the CUTEST smoosh face! Soooo sweet! Originally, Boogie was a "safekeeping" case from an incident where his previous owner fled the scene of a car accident, but he was never reclaimed. :( He loves other dogs - very playful - & kids! Boogie still needs to learn his dog boundaries (how involved to get and how much) and he is somewhat of a jumper, but since he's still young (1 YO!) these are easily resolved with simple research and training. Boogie is an extremely affectionate and kissy boy. Because he's still young at 1 yo, he's got nothing but a ton of potential to be the bestest companion. He is truly adorable and has a genuinely sweet demeanor. Anyone would be lucky to have this sweetheart! updated 12/17/24

Story
This girl is terrified in the shelter. Won't even eat unless no one is watching. She's improved vastly since intake, but only so much can be done until she's out of the shelter environment. She needs a MAJOR confidence boost. Rhea had a slumber party for one night in a foster home with two other dogs, one indoor & one outdoor cat: She was still timid, but opened up immediately. She got brief bouts of zoomies and seems like she'd become a velcro dog as she followed her foster around everywhere. She LOVES to cuddle and gives sweet kisses. With the dogs, she was still timid, which is understandable, but not aggressive. With the mature dog, she more or less avoided though HE was calmly interested in sniffing and playing. With the younger, rambunctious pup, she also tried to avoid but eventually played a tiny bit under close supervision. She got overwhelmed quickly and though she never growled, snarled or tried to bite, she did bare her teeth and play time was quickly put to an end. She was fairly neutral around the indoor mature, calm, senior kitty. Rhea wanted to sniff, but the cat hissed at her and she backed up and left him alone. She didn't seem to notice or acknowledge the outdoor kitty even when pointed out. Rhea likely needs to be around dogs of similar energy levels and who respect her boundaries. Overly rambunctious pups and likely puppies are probably not wise and she gets easily overwhelmed. Same goes for kids younger than about 10. She's very shy and would likely need a long decompression period before potential adopters saw her truly comfortable enough to come out of her shell. Rhea is a special case and we're all rooting for her! GO RHEA! NEEDS: patience, POTTY TRAINING and love. updated 12/16/24
