Story
Hello I'm Thor! I may have the name of a superhero but deep down I just want to be loved. Since I lost my family Ive had a tough time. I lost my home after my original family went through an unforeseen tragedy and I was left without food or water for a week. I was very depressed for a long time and lived in a kennel for a while. I’ve been in and out of a couple foster homes but I haven't found my forever home yet. I know the right one is out there! I have been moved around a few times so I get really anxious in new homes. I need someone who is patient and is willing to give me a chance. I have a big heart and lots of love to share. My favorite hobbies? I like rolling in the grass, riding in the car, walks, yup-walks and more walks along with snuggling. It is my favorite “downtime” thing to do. Oh and I love to keep watch out the window. If you are busy, I am happy just to be around and watch, or nap, while you do human things. I have had some obedience work while living with fosters. I’ve learned to be crated. I really don't like it but a tasty treat will get me inside and once I'm in its naptime. I walk like a gentleman on the leash, but I do get excited seeing other dogs. I can be a little stubborn at times but I do well with firm but gentle verbal correction. What am I looking for in a home? I would prefer to be an only dog, so I can have all the attention. I get along with a lot of other dogs but not every dog. I have instantly loved every human female I have ever met, but not all men. I do have some favorite men in my life though. I just need to go slow with new guys. Trust is really important to me. My biggest need is to have a the security of a home and humans that give me love and attention. If you want a dog that will offer you his friendship and love for life. I’m your guy! Please contact Denise Whitmore DWhitmore@gmail.com to meet up or for more information! or DM via our Facebook page Southampton Roads Adoptable Pets

***LONG TIMER SPECIAL ELIGIBLE! In an effort to help our “Long-Timers” out of the shelter and into forever homes, adoption fees through the end of the year will be $0 for any animal who has been at the shelter for 6+ months. No adoption event or special fee weekend necessary!*** Amill- adult (5 to 8 year old) neutered male pit mix, 65 pounds, house trained, crate trained, good with dogs, not good with cats, good with kids, living in a foster home and has perfect house manners, really sweet affectionate dog. Amill has been living in a foster home for a couple months and he has shown what an awesome dog he is.  This boy is house trained, crate trained, has great house manners (other than barking at animals outside the window) and according to his foster mom, has been a pleasure to have in her home.  He loves car rides and is super friendly with everyone he meets.  He’s been great with the other dogs in the home and has shown no issues with toys and food with the other dogs or with the humans in the home.  He is a velcro dog who is super affectionate.  He is a pretty chill guy who doesn’t require much exercise, so he would be a great dog for a couch potato.  He loves to cuddle on the couch with you while you watch tv.  He does get bursts of energy where he runs around the house and he does like an occasional game of tug of war.  Amill likes taking walks although he can be quite leash reactive when he sees other dogs, which is something his future family will need to be willing to work on.  Other than his leash issues, he really is a perfect dog. Amill has the most beautiful brindle coat and the softest fur!  Amill had several lumps removed recently that came back as mast cell tumors.  After consulting with an oncologist, we were assured these were low grade tumors and they should cause no further issues.  It it common for mct to reoccur, so his future family should be willing and financially able to deal with this if need be.  Amill is an awesome boy and would make an excellent addition to almost any family.  If you would like to meet him, call the shelter at 757-385-4444 or you can email his foster mom directly at karenrph@gmail.com.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 5, 2024, 5:35 pm

Meet Nebula aka Siren! Siren is a very shy girl who will need some time warming up to her new family. Siren is a very sweet and loving girl. Once she`s comfortable with you she will want all the loving you have to give. We have also seen some bursts of energy from her so expect a hyper and active girl after settling in! Siren seems to be well potty trained but keep in mind she may have an accident here and there while getting use to her new environment. We are asking any children be 10 and older as well as all family members living in the home will be required to meet her before approval! Siren will also be required to be introduced to any canines currently residing in the home to ensure they get along! If you have any further questions please see a kennel technician today!

LANA - 4 years old, 70 pounds, house trained, kid & dog social, skin allergies LANA is a super sweet and friendly 4 year old girl who arrived at VBACAC with severe mange, allergies and malnutrition. Fast forward a year and she is still super sweet and friendly and healed up wonderfully with a little TLC and meds.  Lana is great with other dog-social dogs who won't jump on her or insist she play rough.  She is not high energy but does love to go for walks and enjoys riding in the car.  She has to be around you, near you, by you, as long as you are there with her to give her an occasional belly rub. Lana has that rascally side as well as she has, in the past, gotten into the trash for food. LOL Gotta laugh at this one! *Lana will need to be on continued immunotherapy for life and most likely be followed by a vet specializing in allergies so please make sure you are ok with possible financial and emotional obligations. *Lana is currently in a foster home so just call VABCAC at 385-4444 to schedule an appointment to meet her!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 14, 2024, 11:59 am

Story
Mama Bear (Athena)  Mama Bear was a stray (who’d recently had pups, w scars on her ears and other areas)  We have given her all the time she needed to decompress and be comfortable in our home and she has come a long way!  She is the MOST affectionate girl ever, is very special and will be a heart-dog to someone lucky enough to adopt her!  She holds no grudges for her past and deserves a very loving home where she knows she is safe and loved!     ·Loves everyone she meets!   She is SUUUPER excited when meeting someone new, (lil overzealous) but we’re working on her jumping to greet   Doesn't realize how strong she is (likes to “paw” or put paw on you or your chest Needs to be the only animal in the home (no other dogs or animals) Self-entertains with toys and bone chews (hasn't found a toy she can’t destroy yet)  ·Naps & cuddling with soft blankets are one of her fave past times Is "obsessed" with food/ begs relentlessly (If ignored, she will eventually leave you alone) Zooms to her crate, and sits/waits whenever it's time to eat, (or a frosty paw/any special treat) Does this adorbable, impatient "pitter patter" with her paws, whenever she's waiting for something Loves car rides (except when you stop, she starts whining) Is very treat/food motivated on walks/ignores whatever is around Is not a fan of baths but is good once in there- (even for her medicated shampoo baths) Sometimes hides under bed, or behind bed pillows Has some ongoing ashy skin/ itchy issuesthat we are trying to figure out Seems to have a very sensitive stomach and probably should be on a special diet/treats (We are still trying to figure out this issue) VERY EASILY EXCITABLE (gets amped up)  Because of this, we'd reccommed older kids past toddler age                                                                          (But we're pretty sure she'd  love all aged kids) *Crate trained* (goes in it on her own at times) * House trained *Some commands* knows sit & paw  (working on her impatience) Foster's: Yolanda/Mary: https://www.facebook.com/yweav  ,  711amp@gmail.com   knw727@yahoo.comVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 10, 2024, 12:55 pm

BOB THE BUILDER - 1-5 years old, 78 pounds, friendly, active, jumpy, bouncy, playful, handsome, might be ok with some dogs, older kids recommended.    Bob the Builder is a big handsome boy ready for you! The question is are you ready for him! He is one of those boys you don’t have to bend down to pet! And then he’s right up in your face looking for treats! Bob is a happy playful boy who will sit on command for a New York minute and the next second you’d better have a treat ready! Bob was found stray so we don’t know too much about him. So far he’s proving to be friendly with people and quite a handful on a leash. Bring your dog in for a meet and greet and please be ready for supervision if you bring Bob home! We are recommending older kids as Bob is a big boy who still needs work on some manners. Call Vbacac at  757-385-4444  to meet him!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 5, 2024, 5:35 pm

Story
Hi everyone, my name is Chewie and as you can see, I am a total snuggle bug. I am in foster where they report that I am perfectly potty trained, do well with the resident cat, and learning how to be a proper gentleman from the resident female dog. I was so nervous and shut down at the shelter but I`m really letting my true colors show more and more now that I`m decompressing. I am described as affectionate, couch potato, and a lapdog. My foster says `I can`t get over how much love Chewie has to give! He is the most affectionate dog I`ve ever met.`Want to know more about me? Come visit the shelter during adoption hours to set up a play date at the shelter with me!

Story
`Hey there, I`m Bolt! I`m not your average shelter dog. I was once a wizard`s companion, bouncing around in a world of spells and enchantments. One day, I accidentally knocked over a potion, and poof! I ended up here. I miss my magical days, but I`ve got lots of energy and love to share. I can make you laugh with my funny antics, and I`m pretty good at entertaining myself too. I`m looking for a new companion, someone who loves playtime as much as I do. Adopt me, and let`s create our own magic together!`Note from staff: Bolt may like to embellish his background a bit.*Disclaimer* This animal may have maximum number of applications or already be adopted. Our pets are physically located and fostered in NC until adopted. Once adopted we can transport to you or meet 1/2 way for the cost of our gas. We are 5 1/2 hrs west of Virginia Beach. Our pets are physically located and fostered in NC until adopted. Once adopted we can transport to you. We have a cost effective transporter that has stops in most north eastern states. Transport runs every 2 weeks. Please note! Don't just apply just because this dog has a cheap adopt fee. You must prove you can afford to adopt regardless! I find that most of the folks who apply for my reduced fee dogs back out when they realize they are still responsible for the transport fee. If this applies to you please don't waste our time! To the VA Beach area we can transport to your location for $200 or we can do halfway for $100. This will cover just my gas with today's high gas prices. You are welcome to drive to us in Mt.Airy, NC to pick up! Scarlett was born 2-1-21. Her mom was a german shepherd golden mix. We are not positive what dad was. Scarlett is active and very loving. She is good with people and ok with other dogs her size. She is too playful for small dogs. She needs a large dog only home. She is not good with cats. She needs an active home with room to run. She would not do well in a cramped up apartment with no exercise. She is house trained and crate trained, This baby will go home spayed and current on vaccinations, deworming, flea preventives, started on heartworm prevention and microchipped. This pup will receive a health certificate issued by our vet prior to going home. The adopter will get all his health records with the adoption. We require a prescreen application to apply. You can get that on our main website at www.saveamuttkennel.net

Meet Meraki! Meraki is such a special lady! She is super quiet, very timid at first but blossoms when she has a doggie friend to hang and play with. We are unsure about cats because she has never met one! Meraki loves her toys, belly rubs and just being near her human and dog friends. Meraki lived her prior life in a pen with not much human contact, only dogs so she will require patience and understanding BUT she is so worth it! If you would like to meet Meraki, please go to our website at k9newlife.org and fill out our online adoption application! * all of our dogs are in individual foster homes so an appointment must be made for a meet and greet
