Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Woody has such a big heart! Once he bonds with “his” people, those bonds are extremely strong.... but it does take time. He warms up faster to women than men, but men are a close second; ultimately, he bonds strong with both. Woody will give the family that’s patient and the “right match” much joy and unconditional love. Woody tends to be insecure, and he can be very nervous and anxious in new situations or around new people. We believe this is because when he was a young dog he was bounced from location to location. He came to VA by way of NC. Once in VA he was at two different shelters and with two different rescue organizations before coming to The Furever Project. Our organization is committed to fining this loving, goofy, insecure guy his forever home. Woody’s ideal home is going to have lots of space and must have a fenced yard where he can run and play (no apartment or townhouse living for this guy). Woody would not do well in a home with young children. When he gets excited (and he does get the zoomies) it’s hard for him to put on the brakes quickly and he would easily knock down young children. Woody would benefit greatly from being in a home where daily exercise is priority. He does enjoy going for long walks and/or long runs and he can definitely go the distance! Woody does take daily medication to help with a mix of anxiety and high-energy. Woody will do best in a home with a routine and structure. He’s very observant. When things change up on Woody, it can be hard for him to adjust. You can tell he’s trying to figure out what’s going on when the wrinkles appear in his forehead, and he looks from side-to-side trying to figure out why things are different. Woody is extremely intelligent and a very fast learner. He loves working on trick training which can be a lot of fun. Woody would be a joy, and in some respects a challenge, for anyone who enjoys and is passionate about training! Woody does live with other dogs but he requires slow, controlled introductions. Because of this, Woody is not a candidate for dog parks. Woody plays hard and is vocal (barking) during play, but only during play. Doggie siblings would need to be tolerant of his style of play. Woody has been with us for over two years now and waiting for a home of his own for at least three years or more. We believe there is a home for every dog. Could Woody’s home be with you?  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 12:24 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Bonnie came to our rescue in 2021 from a local shelter partner. She was found as a stray full with milk and must have given birth recently. Animal control searched for her puppies but could not find them. Bonnie was totally shot down at the shelter hovering in the corner. When we came to meet her it took us a while to get her to come to us. With patience we were able to open the gate and get her out. She immediately jumped into the lap of one of our volunteers. Well, we could not leave her behind.Fast forward, after a few months of decompressing and getting used to living in a house she became, although still shy, a sweet girl with lots of love to share.Although she is curious with animals through her crate, Bonnie does not like to share her space with other animals outside of her crate and must be the only animal in the house.Bonnie is house and crate trained and her favorite thing is to lay on the couch. She is looking for effection and is the sweetest girlBonnie rides well in the car, is a healthy 5-year old girl and is doing well at vet visits. No problem trimming her nails either. Although generally a very quiet girl, Bonnie likes to run a few laps around the pasture every day to keep her energy under control.Due to Bonnie's fears she is looking for a home where she is the only animal, children 8+ and we require a fenced backyard for her. If you are not ready to adopt please consider fostering her. All expenses, i.e. training, medical care, supplies is paid for by the rescue. We do not know what happened to this poor girl before she was picked up by animal control. All we can do is to look into her future and make life a happier place for her. If you are interested to learn more about this gorgeous girl feel free to email us at bobbiespitrescue@gmail.comVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 5, 2024, 5:31 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Our beautiful girl Penny has been waiting for her forever home for over a year now. Could you give Penny her “happy ever after?” Penny loves both receiving and giving affectionate. She loves being with her people and cuddling with them. One of Penny’s very favorite things is being on the receiving end of lots of petting and body scratches.  She’s a “leaner” and so very sweetly will  lean into you and relax while you’re petting her. Penny loves running around in the backyard at her foster home, going for walks, chewing on her chew bones, and playing with her toys (this girl REALLY loves to play). She does get excited when playing and children may be best who are steady on their feet. As much as Penny loves being outside, we believe she would love activities like hiking and camping or other outdoor physical activities with her family. When it comes to training, Penny is the trifecta. She loves treats, she’s intelligent, and she’s eager to please. She’s very intelligent and eager and could easily excel at trick training (which is always fun!) Since coming to TFP, Penny and her foster mom have participated in private training sessions so Penny has down the basics. Penny does seem to do better with male dogs and we believe Penny would do best in a home where dog siblings are male. Currently, she lives with a male foster doggy sibling and they do very well together. Penny has shown she can be selective with female dogs.  Penny may initially bark at people she doesn’t know; however, once introductions are made, everyone is her friend especially when they shower her with lots of petting (as mentioned, one of Penny’s favorite things). After coming to TFP, Penny and her foster mom had the opportunity to work one-on-one with a trainer and Penny has mastered her basic skills. Penny is crate trained and has THE best crate manners. She is also completely housebroken.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 3, 2024, 4:51 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Molly has been waiting for her forever home for over a year now. It's hard to believe how long this social savvy, adorably cute senior has been waiting. Molly loves children, does well with other dogs, and lives with a cat in her foster home! Molly has great house manners; you could call her the perfect roommate. Molly loves to cuddle, enjoys spend time with you, and is awesome company! Molly is also content chilling on her doggy bed watching nature out the window or just catching a nap.. She is also calm and content spending time at home alone. No "left alone anxiety". Molly does love new experiences and adventures, and she isn't shy. Quite the contrary, she is quite the social butterfly who loves visiting different venues, such as wineries and breweries, where she can socialize and meet new people and dogs. On frequent walks around the hometown where Molly and her foster mom live, some have dubbed her "the mayor".  On these walks through town, Molly has to say "hi" to everyone on the street and is quick with a friendly greeting for new people. Molly isn’t what you'd call a long-distance hiker but that's okay because she is up for lots of shorter walks and loves being outside. Molly makes going on walks a pleasure because she has the best leash manners making her easy to handle and not a chore.   If enjoy having a companion who likes to travel with you, Molly is THE one. She loves car rides and is both polite and well behaved in the car. She’s an awesome copilot and enjoys taking up "her spot" riding shot gun while viewing the scenery. This loving senior truly deserves a family who will spoil her and show her nothing but love and the best of care for the rest of her happy, new life — could that be with you? If so, please submit an adoption application for Molly today!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 2, 2024, 2:34 pm

Her foster mom says one of Dior's best qualities is that she just wants to give love and to be love. She loves her people and loves spending time with them. Dior has been around kids of various ages and is very good with them. Previously, Dior did live with a cat and the two got along well. If you have a cat, we would test Dior with your kitty to be sure the two would be friends. Dior is energetic and loves being active. She loves her walks and being outdoors and we think she'd make an excellent hiking partner or walking companion for helping you get in those daily steps. Dior's favorite game is tug. Currently, her favorite toy is a small rubber wheel which she can amuse herself with for hours. Dior is working on mastering her basic commands. She is currently enrolled in a group training class which starts in January. Dior is treat motivated making training with Dior easy and fun. Dior is crate trained and housebroken. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Say "hello" to our sweet Sheba! At 12 years young, this gentle and even-tempered gal found herself at a local shelter along with another dog after their previous people were evicted from their home. Sheba was brought into the loving folds of The Furever Project soon thereafter (the other pup was pulled by another rescue), and she is thriving in her foster home. Sheba is always excited to meet people, and she makes fast friends with everyone she encounters. She also likes other dogs and has done well with the dogs she's interacted with, including the test dog at the shelter and the 10-year-old male pup she previously lived with. (She hasn't been cat tested yet, so we don't know how she is with kitties.) Sheba is housebroken, well behaved in a crate, and fairly good on a leash. She's also a perfect passenger on car rides, although she needs some assistance with getting into vehicles. Sheba seems to be hard of hearing, so her foster mom has been working with her on some commands using hand signals. So far, she knows "sit" and "stay." As Sheba is food-motivated and enjoys her training treats (as well as the occasional carrot or two!), we're sure that she'll pick up more commands in no time! Sheba's foster mom reports that she's a pretty relaxed dog. She's not "in your face" like younger dogs can sometimes be, but she's always happy to be near people. Sheba isn't a loud dog, either, although she occasionally tries to communicate by "mumbling," as her foster mom describes it. (It's quirky and adorable!) One of Sheba's favorite activities is taking a long nap on her dog bed or the sofa. She also enjoys being outside — whether she's just hanging out, or going on a walk. (Sometimes, she's enjoying herself so much, that it's necessary to coax her back inside.) Sheba has sampled various toys, but she still hasn't chosen a favorite. She likes to sit down with a Nylabone or rawhide-type chew sometimes, and she also enjoys playing tug with a rope toy. She hasn't picked up any stuffed toys — yet. (She's keeping her foster mom in suspense!) What it all comes down to is that Sheba (just like every other dog) deserves an individual or a family who will spoil her and shower her with love for the rest of her happy, new life. Could that be you?? If so, please submit an adoption application for her today!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.December 11, 2024, 9:21 pm
