Story
Outlaw was adopted from us on 2/20 and returned due to him tearing up doors while left alone. It is HIGHLY recommended you leave him in a crate when he is left alone. Outlaw is a happy guy that loves to greet everyone. He lost his first home to a fire, and his family was not able to take him back. Outlaw is a very smart dog that understands "yes" and "no," and knows "sit" and "lay down." Outlaw is very dog selective and would do best as the only dog in the home. He does tend to resource guard his toys around other dogs. He can be a little strong on a leash and does have an issue with pulling; Outlaw is reactive towards other dogs on a leash and will lunge at them. Outlaw has a strong prey drive and will try to go after cats. He is pretty reactive towards horses and other livestock and should not be homed near them. His previous fosters said he was potty trained and did not have any accidents inside. Outlaw did very well when left out in the home while no one was there. He loves going on walks and taking car rides. If he is left loose without a passenger in the car, Outlaw will bounce around from seat to seat and eventually tries to get into the driver's lap. Outlaw loves baths and getting brushed, but absolutely hates when his feet are touched or grabbed. He loves attention, and would do well with older children that could play with him. His fosters stated that he LOVES playing fetch. He does have a tendency to chew on things he shouldn't if they are left where he can reach them. He has done well in a crate while his kennel is being cleaned. His previous fosters said he did whine when left in a crate, so he may have some separation anxiety. Outlaw does have a bad flea allergy, and will start to lose his fur and will scratch nonstop if he is exposed to fleas and does not have prevention. Outlaw is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm negative. Outlaw was previously heartworm positive when tested in Feb 2023, but tested heartworm negative in Feb 2024!

Story
Kira is a sweet and affectionate girl who despises staying outside. She's mastered house and crate training and will willingly go into her crate when directed. Despite being deaf, Kira understands hand signals for commands like "sit" and "quiet." She is great with kids and strangers but prefers to be the only pet in the home. She's not fond of cats and does not do well with dogs. While she enjoys tearing up toys, Kira is well-behaved otherwise and has a higher-pitched bark when feeling anxious. She's not shy about letting you know when she wants attention and happily smiles when her belly gets rubbed. Kira is a pro on the leash and loves car rides, making her an ideal companion for outdoor adventures. Although she has skin allergies and a lump that needs assessment, she's spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm-negative.

Not good with cats, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Tazmania is an affectionate and people-friendly pup who is ready to be the center of attention in her forever home! Originally adopted in 2021, Tazmania was unfortunately returned due to issues with other animals in the household. As a result, she would thrive best as the only pet in her new home, where she can be the sole focus of love and attention. Despite her previous experiences, Tazmania is extremely friendly and loves being around people. She does well with older children, although her interactions with younger children are unknown. With her sweet and gentle nature, Tazmania is sure to become a beloved companion for anyone seeking a loyal and devoted furry friend. Due to her past struggles with emaciation, Tazmania may exhibit resource guarding behavior around food and should be fed in her own designated area to ensure her comfort and well-being. With patience and understanding, Tazmania will blossom into a confident and happy pup in a loving and supportive environment. While Tazmania can be strong on a leash and may benefit from some training in this area, she is generally well-behaved and does okay when crated. With consistency and positive reinforcement, Tazmania will continue to learn and grow into the best version of herself. Tazmania is spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative and on prevention.

Size
(when grown) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Cupid was found out in the county and never reclaimed. He is a very friendly and excitable boy. He is full of wiggles and does try to jump up on people for attention. He is full of energy and does occasionally mouth on anyone in his kennel. He is a fence jumper and thinks he is a ninja, jumping from fence side to fence side. He is a runner when doors get opened and will just needs some patience and training to help correct that. He does fine when left in a crate for short periods of time, however he has escaped a few of them while we clean the kennels. He will walk on a leash but he is all over the place and will accidently drag you if you do not keep him on a shorter leash. So far he has not seemed to mind the other dogs but has not been dog tested. Cupid is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative and on prevention. ECHS does not reserve adoptable animals for the public. Adoptions are first come first serve the day of availability. Please note that availability is subject to change at any point in time per ECHS discretion.

Story
Draco was picked up as a stray and was never reclaimed. He is a very sweet dog who will be shy to newcomers. Once he opens up he loves to get attention and pets. He walks fine on the leash after the initial pulling. He does tend to not want to go into crates and will need guidance, but once he's in he does fine. While being here, he has shown aggression to all other dogs while being walked past them. He would do best as an only dog in the house, but may do good with other dogs once out of here. If you have any current household dogs, a meet and greet is always highly recommended. We also offer a foster program and highly recommend that if you wish to adopt him. We are not sure if he is potty trained or not. He has not been tested with any other animals. He has jumped our chain-link fences so if you have a backyard, a secured fence is a must if you are going to leave him out on his own. Draco is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm negative and on prevention. ECHS does not reserve adoptable animals for the public. Adoptions are first come first serve the day of availability. Please note that availability is subject to change at any point in time per ECHS discretion.

Hazel

American Pit Bull Terrier

Female, 2 yrs 7 mos
Stephenville, TX
Size
(when grown) Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
Details
Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Hazel adopted and returned because she was being aggressive towards the kids, dogs, and cats in the household. This is uncharacteristic of her as she has not shown any aggression while here at the shelter. Her original owner had stated that she was dog and kid friendly, so we are unsure what could have caused this. She also did well with our dogs during dog testing. We highly recommend that the future adopter foster before committing to her if they have children or pets. She was a nervous girl when she first came in, but has settled into the shelter routine. She melts with gentle talk and soft pets. She has been an outdoor dog for since she was a puppy and will likely need a refresher course when introduced to the indoors. When left alone loose in the house, she will get into the trash. Once she feels comfortable, she does love playing and she knows how to fetch. She has been a very easy walker on a leash and does tend towards a slow, meandering walk rather than a brisk walk. Hazel is spayed, fully vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative and on prevention.

Story
Serafina was born in May of 2021, and has been my precious baby since February 2022. She is a Pitt/Doberman mix and has the biggest heart. She does not like cats, and while she has always gotten along with other dogs at the park, she would thrive in a single pet home. She loves to run, splash through the water, and play tug of war and catch. She's also a cuddle bug and loves to give kisses. She needs someone with a large backyard, or someone who can take her to the park on a regular basis. She is caught up on her shots, but has not been spayed. She is house trained. Regrettably, I am no longer physically able to care for her needs and that is the only reason I'm letting her go. She deserves so much more than I can give her.

Story
Electra is estimated at 6+  yrs old, weighing in around 60 lbs, she is house broken, kennel trained, and full of personality and spunk. She is stunning, great on leash, friendly to strangers. Does good around most other dogs she meets but is selective when it comes to her friends. She has been  great with the puppy in the house! She wants to be next to you, cuddled up on the couch or playing. Her favorite thing to do is explore the yard in search of frogs to pounce, splash in her kiddie pool, or play in the water hose. She is eager to please and would be eager to learn commands. Electra is fully vetted, spayed, microchipped and waiting for a family of her own to love. She has lots of love to give.
