Fred is "strong like bull" and a huge goofball! This handsome fella was roaming the city streets before finding lodging at the shelter. His most striking features are that gorgeous grey coat and his flyaway ears which seem to have a mind of their own! Fred loves a good romp in the play yard and hearty pats on his solid body. Fred has tested positive for heartworm disease but our friendly staff can coach you on the easy ways you can help him fight back and become healthier than a horse! Gaze into those gorgeous eyes and you may have just found your new best friend! Ask about Fred and call him yours!

Story
It may have taken awhile to bring Milton to safety, but thanks to dedication by our animal control officers (and tasty treats!), he is now living in safe shelter with us, his home between homes! Milton is a young pit bull mix (with maybe a little dalmatian mixed in) who now doesn't have to scavenge for food and drink--we have a ready supply of vittles and fresh water all for him! A good bath has highlighted his snow white coat, and those spotted ears and puppy dog eyes beg you to show him some love. We are giving him the love and care he has been missing until his perfect match is found, and we're hoping his wait is a short one! Adopt our Milton and teach him all about human kindness!

For a youngster, Rufus has an extremely calm demeanor and though shy, he is easing into shelter life and learning kindness from our staff. Next up--charming you to take him home! Story
One of a litter of older pups to enter the shelter, Hugo has known mostly a kennel life with his brothers and craves a nice big house and an even bigger yard to run around in! Hugo is happiest lying in the sun and running in the play yard. With beautiful blue peepers and a gorgeous thick coat, Hugo is quite a looker and is learning to trust humans as he interacts with staff at the shelter. Slow and steady goes a long way with Hugo, and we'd welcome an opportunity to introduce you to this fine pup!

Story
Welcome to Sonic, can we interest you in a chocolatey medium sized pit bull mix??? Found roaming without a home, Sonic comes to us as sweet as a chocolate shake but with a side of trepidation instead of fries! After being alone on the streets, she is slowly learning to trust and holds her head up a little higher each day. The sunshine and fresh air of the play yard allow her to open up, and gentle scritches and chin rubs are welcome! Sonic would love a patient owner who will allow her to blossom at her own pace and maybe even take her for a spin through the drive thru for a burger one day! Choose Sonic!

Story
We don't know the origin of Loco's name, but Loco really isn't as crazy as his moniker would lead you to believe! Shy, yes, but inside this boy's heart is a pup who just needs to know who and how to trust. Treats are a great gateway to earning that trust as are the warm and welcoming pets he is receiving from our staff and volunteers. Loco has excelled in the play yard with other dogs and that is where we see who he really is! Such great strides in a very short period of time bodes well for a future of only good things for Loco!

Story
Found Roxy as a stray roaming area. Very loving and very people oriented. Kids love her and she has been with us on several camping trips. As comfortable in house as out. Lived with us for past 7 years. Hates storms and loud noises. Unfortunately, she no longer gets along with one of our other dogs. Unsure what changed. Still fine with other dogs, cats and horses, but not sure why that changed and if will toward any of the other pets. Still very very loving to people, young and old. Very playful, enjoys walks and car rides.

Story
Say hello to sweet River! River was found by a Good Samaritan on 5/18/2022 by the river bridges off Democrat Rd. in Eastern Brazos County. No tags or collar. NO MICROCHIP. Most likely dumped. River is an intact male mixed breed dog. He's likely a pitbull shepherd cross and he has the most adorable ears! His medical history is unknown and the temporary home he is in has not updated his vaccines or had him heartworm tested. They are only allowed to hang on to him for a few more days so it is very important that he finds a loving home soon! He is a young dog. His foster believes he's about a year old. His teeth are very clean and still small. He’s housebroken and crate trained. He’s really only left in the kennel when his temporary fosters are not at home and he does really well! The temporary foster has another male dog in the home and they both get along great. He always tries to sniff the cat in the home, but they haven't officially spent time together since the cat is very timid and hides from him. River has not been around young children, but he does well with adults and older kids. We believe that River would do best in a home that has older children that can interact with him. If you are interested in River, please contact Tina at (979) 595-7903 or email at tinacorgey.1974@icloud.com.

Story
Meet Ginger! Ginger is a true rescue dog. She was rescued from a family who had a dog-aggressive pet in the home which eventually cost her a trip to the ER. Since we've had Ginger she has come out of shell beautifully, she does well with calm-submissive dogs. Ginger is being kennel trained, but will need the patience to get fully there. She has done well with new people given the chance to take things slowly. She loves playing and clearly adores any attention given! Once she feels safe you'll have a best friend for life! Please consider Ginger as you continue your search for a new furry friend, contact us or Summit Veterinary Hospital at (979) 315-1999! Ginger is spayed and microchipped. She is also up to date on all vaccines and she's dewormed. Unfortunately she is heartworm positive but is already receiving treatment. Our adoption process begins with you meeting Ginger. Feel free to schedule a play date with her and your existing dog(s). After you fill out an application, we will verify your references and do a brief home inspection. If all goes well, we will deliver Ginger to you for a small adoption fee. We then ask that you sign our adoption contract. We will do a follow-up visit approximately two weeks to one month after the adoption to ensure that Ginger is adjusting well to her new home and that she's happy and healthy. We feel our adoption process is the best way to vet good owners and to guard against people seeking dogs for dog fighting, bait dogs, and/or dog sales. We only have our rescue dogs' best interest in mind and we do everything we can to ensure that they go to the very best home and that it's the perfect fit.
