Hi there, I’m Johnny Ramone, and I’d love to meet you! I’m a neutered male pit mix, around 4-5 years old, and while I may be visually impaired, I promise I don’t let that stop me from being a sweet, loving boy.I came to Stray Haven in August after being on the run with a few other dogs. Since then, I've been waiting patiently for my forever home, and I’m starting to think it might just be with you!I’ve had the pleasure of making lots of friends while I’ve been here, including a lovely volunteer and her granddaughter. They say I’m their favorite – and I can see why, once you meet me. I’m a charmer! I walk nicely on a leash and enjoy taking strolls, especially through places like Home Central and Hair Designs, where I get to meet all sorts of new people. Everyone I meet loves me, and I even stayed calm when I got distracted by some noisy chickens and a crowing rooster!I’m easy to get along with and I love to show off my good behavior. If you want to meet me and see just how sweet I am, just stop by Stray Haven Humane Society in Waverly during their open hours. From Jethro's temporary foster family:"Jethro is a big, beautiful, young male pit mix. He is neutered, current on his immunizations, and has been vet-checked. He is a little timid and apprehensive due to all the changes in his life but has settled in well. Jethro is a large dog and a strong puller when excited. He gets supercharged by the smells and sounds of wildlife. I have used a leash wrap harness on him which helps a lot when he does start to pull.Dog meets have not gone well with the resident dogs so I would say he is dog selective. This may be due to him still settling in but he doesn't appear to appreciate anyone who challenges his space. The shelter was told he participated in playgroups in the southern shelter so a dog friend is not out of the question! Jethro keeps his kennel space very neat and clean and doesn't seem to have separation anxiety. He does silly little puppy jumps when greeting me and appears to understand his size and not jump with paws up unless I am seated. He loves butt rubs!! We are working on waiting to go through doors since he started trying to rush through. He is doing very well with this! Also with sitting to wait for a treat that he takes gently. He is great at this!!Jethro would be a very loyal loving companion for someone willing to put in the love and time to work with him. From the former foster family:"He came in with the name Macho but likes to be called Bud. He’s great with female dogs, he needs to be the only male dog in the house. He’s good with cats, house bunnies, chickens and ducks. He’s housebroken, knows several commands, and crate trained. I have an injured chicken in the house and they sleep together. He’s such a sweet boy. My vet and I decided he’s probably 4-5 years old. From one of our volunteers after spending some time with Red:"It was Red's turn today to have a day out. Red is an adult male who has been calling Stray Haven his home for a while now. When he first came to the shelter the staff felt he was shy but there wasn't much shyness shown today in meeting people. I would say he has come out of his shell. He soaked up all the pets and love he could and people commented on how handsome he is. He walked quite well on the leash for a big strong dog and only really pulled when he saw squirrels teasing him. He knows sit and takes a treat gently although the kennel says he can be somewhat food-possessive in the shelter. Red and I did walks and visited Home Central and Hair Designs in Owego. He really enjoyed the attention he got from new friends. If you would like to meet Red to see if he's the one for you visit Stray Haven Humane Society in Waverly, NY anytime during open hours, no appointment necessary. Red would love to show you how special he is.
