PLEASE NOTE! Unless stated otherwise, our dogs and puppies are located in Arkansas, and transported to the north/northeast once adopted. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet. 12/14/24 STILL AVAILABLE 5/17/24 Shadow I'm not sure that I've ever seen a more handsome dog. He is so beautiful with his muscular build and slick coat. Shadow is an owner surrender, through no fault of his own. His former owner was going through some very difficult life events and just was not able to keep him any longer. Shadow is 2 years old, 55lbs, and fully vetted. He gets along good with other non dominant dogs. He is also very good with kids. He is not a good candidate for a home with cats. He is housetrained and walks on leash but needs to learn better leash manners because he does pull. He is loving and friendly with everyone he meets. Located in Arkansas, but transport is available. Adopter must be able to pick up or arrange for someone to pick up for them at one of the following times/locations. Harrisburg, PA 2am Fridays Port Jervis, NJ 5am Fridays Southington, CT 8am Fridays East Hartford, CT 11am Fridays To apply, please fill out the adoption app: https://form.jotform.com/212690945239059 Message or email apps.aasr@gmail.com with any questions. Story
1/6/25 Jenga is still available! 12/18/24 Jenga is one of my favorite dogs that we have in rescue right now. He encompasses the forgiving nature of dogs. Jenga has a very long, sad story. While we don't want to focus on his past, his story needs to be told. Here is the shortened version: Jenga was a street dog who a good Samaritan was feeding and doing her best to care for him. He stayed close to her house for the most part, because he knows where the food is. Sadly, its a high crime area with known dog fighters living and actively engaging in the illegal 'sport' of dog fighting. Jenga, being the friendly, sweet hearted, trusting boy that he is was an easy target for them. A neighbor witnessed these people lure Jenga into their fenced in yard, where they keep their fighting dogs on logging chains for 'training' and they threw Jenga into the middle and laughed while their dogs mauled him nearly to death. Somehow, Jenga escaped with his life, but barely. He left a trail of blood all the way down the street as he drug himself back to the only home he knew. He lost a lot blood that night. We didn't think he would make it. But he pulled through with the help of his good Samaritan friend and our vet and his team. We thought he would lose both of his ears, but he didn't. He made a full recovery. Despite all that he has been through, Jenga LOVES all people. Kids included. He also loves other dogs. He holds no grudges, and would probably go right to those same people again if he had the chance, because in his mind, people are good and he loves all of them- even the ones who don't deserve it. So that's his back story. After this all took place, we were able to get jenga into a foster home. He has been an absolute joy to have in his foster home. He is everything good. He's quiet, gentle, loving, crate and house trained. He got a new bed from Santa Paws and he LOVES it! He is grateful for any little thing that is given to him. We've had him fully vetted. Unfortunately, he was heartworm positive but he will be treated fur that after he finishes his 30 days of pre-treatment. He will be enrolling in the Paws In Prison training program on 12/19, not because he needs training, but more because we think he will enjoy the added attention and focused training he will get while there. These are the facts: Jenga is a pit bull mix and he's black. That makes him far less desirable from an adoption standpoint. Here's another fact: he is every bit as wonderful, loving, and deserving of a good home as any other dog. Please don't let his breed and color be a deterrent. He craves love and affection and he deserves to have that in his life. He didn't ask to be here, but we are glad to know him and we hope someone out there will give him the chance that he needs. He will be the most loyal companion anyone could ever ask for. Jenga love going for rides in the car and would love to have a family who will let him tag along on their adventures. He adores children and has been around ages as young as toddlers. He is very gentle with them, as if he understands they are more fragile. He is about 2 years old and 40 lbs. I should note, the dog fighters have been reported to authorities many times. Nothing is ever done to stop their illegal activies. We don't know why, but our local law enforcement just doesn't seem to care about dog abuse and cruelty. Located in Arkansas, but transport is available. Adopter must be able to pick up or arrange for someone to pick up for them at one of the following times/locations. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.URGENT AT RISK OF EUTHANASIA PLEASE SH@RE!! No negative comments, we just want to find a home for her! Being dog selective, a Pit mix, and being nervous of small kids puts the odds against this poor girl. MJ was adopted from us as a puppy. Her owners are no longer able to keep her. It’s no longer a good fit for MJ. She needs a more quiet, calm home. MJ is a 1.5 year old spayed female Pit mix. She is 50 lbs, and a BIG snuggler. She loves her people but is shy with others and doesn’t like a lot of commotion or loud noises. She would love nothing more than a game of fetch and a pile of blankets to burrow in. MJ is dog selective and particularly doesn’t do well with high energy female dogs. She is better with calm, low key dogs. No young children as they make her nervous. She is on Fluoxetine to help with her nervousness. She is fully house trained, knows basic commands, LOVES her crate (“house”), and does not chew. She’s a bit nervous in the car but settles in. Her leash manners could be improved as she has always had a fenced yard and is accustom to a lot of space. She has a lifetime training contract with Bark Busters. MJ is in New England. We do occasionally have dogs/puppies placed in foster homes in the north/northeast. In the cases where the pet is somewhere other than Arkansas, it will be noted beside the name of the pet.Ripley is a seven month old 45lbs spirited pup! He is completely house, and crate trained. He has completed puppy kindergarten, which helped him develop good socialization skills, and he has graduated basic training. He is very smart boy and knows all his basic commands. A DNA test shows that he is 100% mutt- 32% American Pit Bull Terrier, 20% American Staffordshire Terrier, 18% Pembroke Welsh Corgi, 10% Australian Cattle Dog, 6% Catahoula Leopard Dog, 5% Labrador, 3% American Foxhound, 2% Doberman, 2% Saint Bernard, 2% Shih Tzu.  He would do well with an active family who will give him ample opportunities to spend his energy. He loves being outdoirs, doing agility and vigorous activities, playing in the water during beach trips, and is fantastic getting a bath. He sleeps well through the night in his “place” crate. He has been to the outside dog park here, and has been to indoor agility courses. He also goes to doggy daycare. He does good at the groomers for nail trims. He is UTD on all his shots including canine influenza. He currently lives in a home with a very mellow, submissive 3 year old dog. His energy level has proven to be too much for her, causing her to retreat and withdraw from her family. Ripley's family feels very strongly that they are just not able to provide adequate exercise and stimulation for Ripley to be his best self, and therefore they have started the search for a more active home for him. Ripley is fully vetted and up to date on everything. He is located in CT and is available for meet n greet with an approved adoption application.
