Story
Riley joined our family when she was found being abandoned on the side of the road. She has been a loved member of our family for years. It is with a heavy heart that we are looking to re-home her as we have recently welcomed a baby into our family and we can no longer provide Riley with the care and time that she needs. Riley is a sweet dog who would do best in a single-pet household with older children who are familiar with dogs as she has high energy and loves to play. Riley loves her people and shows her affection by cuddling and laying belly up for belly rubs as often as possible. Riley would be a great companion for a family who has a fenced in yard where she can run and enjoy time playing with her humans. We love Riley and would love to see her go to a loving home!

Story
MEET NELLIE! Nellie is an 8-10 year old pittie who was seized for cruelty and neglect by Philly's Humane Law Enforcement team, completely emaciate. She spent some time in the shelter before she hitched a ride to City of Elderly Love and never looked back! She's now ready to lay down some roots in a low-key home with a family who can help Nellie's world remain small due to her difficult past. Nellie has the most unique face with wrinkles galore, soulful golden eyes, and pouty lips. She also has some muscle loss in her head but now that she is at a healthy weight, it's less noticeable. Despite looking larger in photos, Nellie is a peanut! She has short little legs, a peanut head, and (now) a nice round belly. Nellie is currently living with another dog but prefers her own space where she can spread out. She tolerates him, but can get overstimulated around him easily and isn't afraid to tell him to beat it if he's being annoying. Because of this, we think she'd be happiest as an only-pet or with another lower-key dog. Nellie loves her crate and you can sometimes find her curled up in it without being prompted. Nellie takes a little time to warm up to new people and can be anxious in new settings (like an unfamiliar car ride or during a vet visit) but settles in wonderfully and will be your very best friend if you offer her a treat. She loves being petted and scratched and will bonk her head into your leg or flip over on her back to let you know she'd like some lovin'. We really don't know anything about Nellie's past before entering the shelter its safe to say she's been through a lot. She doesn't require much - a quieter home where she isn't asked to go on tons of adventures but can get a nice stroll through the neighborhood and a comfy spot to sit in the sun would be a dream come true. Nellie is available for foster or adoption through City of Elderly Love. She is spayed, vaccinated and microchipped. Interested in meeting her? Story
MEET DARREN! This gorgeous boy is named Darren! He was found as a stray in Philadelphia and brought to the animal control shelter in hopes someone would claim him. Since the shelter was so full, he was timestamped for euthanasia. Instead, he landed a foster home with City of Elderly Love!  Since he was a stray, we don't know Darren's exact age, but he's estimated to be around 10 years old. While we don't know much about his past, Darren did great in his shelter evaluations and has proved to be an easy-going all-around good boy! He loves to be around other dogs, and has lived with large and small dogs in foster care. He prefers to eat his meals and high-value treats/bones away from the other dogs so he doesn't have to worry about sharing. But his favorite activity is to snuggle with his pit mix foster sister. They'll curl up on the dog bed together in the cutest little cuddle puddle. Darren has been introduced to cats but isn't currently living with them. We think he could live peacefully with a dog-savvy cat after an appropriate slow introduction! Darren is a very generous dog! He adores his human friends. He will dote on his people with lots of snuggles and rest his head in their laps. He also loves to bring everyone presents! Blankets, dog beds, dog toys, your own shoes --- they are all fair game for Darren to present to his favorite people, especially when you get home from being out. That said, Darren was briefly adopted to a lovely family with multiple small children which proved to be too stressful for him so he was returned to us so we could find him a lower-key family. Darren is a regular at our adoption events and loves meeting new people, but we think that at his age, he'd be happiest in a home without rough and tumble kids. While Darren does have some weakness in his hind legs which comes with age, that doesn't stop him from using the stairs in his row home foster home or going on neighborhood walks! He has a cloudy eye due to what appears to be an old injury but it causes him no pain and no limitations. He does like to have eyes (or paws!) on his people as much as he can, leading to whininess when you're home but he can't see you, but Darren hasn't shown any destructive behavior when he's left alone. He also walks well on a leash, is crate trained, and is housebroken. He's an absolute sweetheart who deserves to spend his golden years absolutely spoiled and loved on! Darren is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love! He has been fully vetted since leaving the shelter and iis neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Interested in adopting him? Visit cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire or email us at info@cityofelderlylove.org!

Story
MEET HENRY! Meet Henry, a handsome frosty faced boy looking for a warm bed and a toy bin to call his own. Henry is your regular old grandpa, a sometimes stubborn man who prioritizes comfort and spending quality time with those he loves. Henry was originally left behind from an eviction and brought to Philly's animal control shelter. Luckily we were able to pull him from the shelter and he’s currently living the good life in foster care while he waits for a place to spend his golden years! Henry is likely around 10 years old and is a pretty low energy boy- he likes one or two short walks each day and enjoys spending the majority of the day snoozing on a dog bed or the couch. In the house Henry LOVES squeaky toys and enrichment toys- he can keep himself occupied for hours with a peanut butter kong or a plush toy. He’s also fully house trained with no accidents in his foster home! Henry is able to be alone for several hours at a time and typically spends that time snoozing. He can be a vocal boy and will voice his FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) if he’s left alone in his room while he can hear others in the house interacting. He just wants to be in on the fun!  Henry has shown us how dog friendly he is with dogs of all shapes and sizes! He can come on very eagerly at first but is very aware of dog body language and very respectful of his foster sister’s boundaries which she sets a lot of! He enjoys playing and romping with other dogs or is fine just co-existing if they’re not interested in play. He’s an easy going boy for dog pals and will gladly meet your resident dog to see if he could be a good match for your family! One area that Henry is still working on is sharing his food. He tends to resource guard food from his human and dog friends and may nip around items he doesn't want to share so we’ve found it’s best to put him away (crate or seperate room) for mealtimes and not have long-lasting treats/bones out around other animals. Because of this we’d prefer that Henry goes to an adult only home. Henry has been an absolute joy to have in foster care, making his foster parents laugh with his goofy personality and silly antics. Their favorite is the amount of effort it takes to get Henry to go outside when it’s after 8pm and under 50 degrees. The man is a king and wants to live like one! Henry is truly a sweet old man who deserves a comfortable retirement home and loving owner to show him he’s safe. You can follow his foster mom’s instagram and see more Henry content at @adoptwithakila! Henry is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He has been fully vetted since coming to the rescue including having a dental cleaning and a mass removed on his side. Beside some age-related joint stiffness, Henry's in great shape! Interested in adopting him? Visit cityofelderlylove.org to complete an online adoption questionnaire or email us at info@cityofelderlylove.org!

Story
Meet THOMAS aka "The Professor" Svelte and dreamy with knock out ears! Meet Thomas aka The Professor! Thomas is a debonair and stunning male pittie mix who is approximately 2 - 3years old and currently weighs around 50 lbs. He is destined to wear a tuxedo:-) Thomas is one of the most intelligent dogs that we have ever rescued hence his nickname "The Professor". We think he secretly works at NASA in his free time .. If you are a looking for a dexterous, self-assured dog to do agility training with .Thomas would definitely be up for that. He is eager to learn and loves to work through training and exercise. He craves physical and mental stimulation and would be an excellent hiking/adventure companion. He is very food motivated which is great for continued training. Thomas is non-reactive to dogs on the leash which makes daily jaunts with him smooth sailing, he is very enjoyable on leash walks. Thomas does need to be the solo act/only dog in the home at this time. He's a monogamous mutt! One dog at a time so he can have his human to himself. The Professor would thrive in an adult only home or a home with teenage children. He does not necessarily need to have a fenced yard since he does so well on leash walks but he does require his daily exercise regimen. If you are looking for an enthusiastic jogging/hiking buddy, then Thomas could be the perfect match for you. Thomas also loves a good cuddle and is an affectionate and loving pup who is also both crate- trained and house- trained. If interested in this special guy please contact Christine at christine@therescueexpress.org
