Izzy is a very friendly dog, an American Pit Bull Terrier mix, around 2 years old. We received a call from the local sheriff’s dispatch seeking our assistance in rescuing an abandoned Pitbull in rural Tennessee, and that's how we found Izzy. Despite his rough past and neglect, Izzy's gentle demeanor shines through. We've taken Izzy under our wing, with plans to provide him the care he deserves. He's been neutered, vaccinated, received flea/tick prevention, and microchipped. He's good on the leash but pulls a bit, and he's a decent traveler in the car. He is crate trained. Izzy is sweet and good-natured, good with kids, dogs, and small dogs, but not at all fond of cats. He's very needy but understandable. Weighing about 45 pounds, he's a smart, independent, and gentle companion who's happiest being with you, whatever you're doing. However, Izzy is a bit of an escape artist and can tear up regular kennels. So, he'll need an indestructible crate with heavier bars. Despite his knack for getting out, Izzy will bring endless love and happiness into your life, always eager to be by your side. Please send a request for an application to fill out. Story

Ruthie's story is very sad. Her owners (never found) tied her to a telephone pole at a gas station in the middle of the night on a cold winter's night. Two young men who pulled in to get gas early in the morning saw her and took her into their car. They then contacted us to see if we could take her in. She was so scared and freezing cold she just cowered in fear for about a week. We are convinced that she was physically abused as well. Little by little she started to come out of her shell. We left her in our nursery building for a few weeks because we thought she may be pregnant. It was obvious that she had had a litter at some point in her life. Turns out she wasn't pregnant so we put her in with the general population where she has thrived. She loves playing with the puppies, she's great with cats and wonderful with children as all Pitties are. She has been spayed, is heart worm negative, fully vaccinated, crate trained and house broken to a doggie door. She is small for a Pittie so we call her a "Pocket Pittie" Ruthie needs her forever home, could that be you? She is ready for immediate transport. We got a call from a friend of the rescue. The woman told us that she knew of a puppy that was either chained outside or in a crate that was covered with boards and cement blocks. The puppy had injured his eye and had also pulled out one of his claws. When we got to the residence, he was tied to the house on a huge chain. The crate was right next to him and was barely big enough for him to even fit inside. It had boards on all sides that were held in place with cement blocks, basically it was a coffin. We told the owner that we would take him to the vet and begged for her to surrender him to us. She eventually agreed and we rushed him to the vet right away. Luckily neither injury was too serious and his eye healed pretty quickly. His little claw is slowly growing back. He has been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. We call them Pit-A-Dors! Half Lab, half Pit Bull. This little guy is more than ready for a good home! PLEASE NOTE THAT WE ARE LOCATED IN TENNESSEE AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MET OUR PETS PRIOR TO ADOPTION! About a month ago we welcomed Beatrice, formerly Penny of the Newark shelter, to Outcast. We wanted to get to know her before we posted her. Beatrice is a senior gal at 12 years old. Sadly her owner passed away and she found herself in a scary place. Don't let the number 12 fool you, this old gal has a lot of pep left in her step. She was treated on intake for an upper respiratory she acquired from being in the shelter and we are currently treating her skin for an infection. Her senior panel of blood work came back just fine. Beatrice loves the kids in her foster home and she happily escorts them each morning to catch the bus. She is also good with the resident dogs in the foster home. We would love to see Beatrice find a place she can retire, live out the rest of her golden years. She is a true gem. Let's share Beatrice and help find her a forever home.
