Story
Betty is a beautiful 3-1/2 year old female American Pit Bull Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on August 2, 2023 by a Good Samaritan who found her on Brandy Drive in Marietta Ohio. Betty was accompanied by her best friend Veronica who is most likely her sister. Neither Betty nor Veronica were wearing a collar, and they were not microchipped. Betty has a black short smooth coat with an over-sized white bib on her chest, a long tail, and a pretty face with a narrow white stripe on her forehead, a chubby muzzle, and short floppy ears. Betty was 'in a family way' when she entered our shelter and is very pregnant. We anticipate that she will be giving birth to several babies in the near future. Her bestie/sister Veronica is the self-appointed mid-wife since she is always as close to Betty as possible. Betty weighs 75 lbs. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Tracy Moore for taking Betty & Veronica outdoors (together of course) so that they could have updated glamour photos taken on August 11th. We had taken preliminary photos in their kennel a few days after they arrived, and they were snuggled up close to each other on their large blanket-covered kuranda bed. We had late-breaking news soon after we posted Betty's Petfinder 'baby bump' photos on the evening of August 13, 2023 and will include a birth announcement: Betty gave birth to six healthy puppies. All of the babies and momma Betty are doing well ... And "Aunt Veronica" is also doing well. UPDATE: Four of Betty's babies survived but, sadly, two of the puppies passed away during the month of September 2023. Her four remaining puppies (Curie, Einstein, Franklin, and Newton) have thrived and are happy, playful youngsters who will soon be leaving for their new homes. Betty has been separated from her puppies, and she is ready to begin the next chapter of her life. She will be spayed in the near future and will soon be looking for a fabulous home of her very own. Betty was spayed on September 9, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine.

Veronica was accompanied by her best friend Betty who is most likely her sister. Neither Veronica nor Betty were wearing a collar, and they were not microchipped. Veronica has a black short smooth coat with a small patch of white on her chest and belly, a long tail, and a sweet face with dark brown eyes, a black button nose on her slender muzzle, and large floppy ears. Veronica & Betty have been kept together since entering our shelter since they depend upon each other for companionship and a sense of security. Betty was 'in a family way' when she entered our shelter and is very pregnant. We anticipate that she will be giving birth to several babies in the near future. Veronica is the self-appointed mid-wife since she is always as close to Betty as possible. Veronica weighs 50 lbs. She doesn't appear to have been accustomed to walking on a leash but made a noble effort with her best friend Betty by her side. Veronica has a gentle, rather shy, personality. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Tracy Moore for taking Veronica & Betty outdoors (together of course) so that they could have updated glamour photos taken on August 11th. We had taken preliminary photos in their kennel a few days after they arrived, and they were snuggled up close to each other on their large blanket-covered kuranda bed. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Veronica was held for three days so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership .. But nobody called or came looking for Veronica or Betty. Veronica will be spayed before being adopted by her new family. Story
Kim is a beautiful 2-year old female Pit Bull Terrier/Hound mix who was brought to the HSOV on September 19, 2023 during the overnight- or early morning hours and placed in one of our outside kennels near the front of the shelter building. We don't know if she was an owner surrender or if perhaps someone found her and left her there for her well-being. Kim was not wearing a collar, and she was not microchipped. This gorgeous girl has a black-and-white short smooth coat, white paws, a long tail, and an adorable symmetrically-marked face with soulful brown eyes, a milk chocolate nose, and short floppy ears. Kim's coat has a subtle dark brown shading which is noticeable when she is in the bright sunshine. Kim was understandably a very frightened girl after being left alone in an unfamiliar place with people that she did not yet realize were her new best friends who were giving her unconditional love. These glamour photos of Kim were taken on September 19th 2023 when HSOV Volunteer/Board Member Tracy Moore accompanied her outdoors late in the afternoon. Tracy has gained Kim's trust and kept looking to her for guidance and reassurance while she posed for pictures. Kim loved hearing soft 'baby talk' and hearing what a 'good girl' she was. Kim had the sweetest yet most heartbreaking facial expressions when she looked at Tracy and our photographer with sadness in her eyes. Kim weighs 67 lbs. She didn't appear to have had any walking-on-a-leash experience but she made a noble effort thanks to encourage from Tracy (and even 'jogged' in step with Tracy as they headed back inside the shelter to her kennel). In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Kim was held for three days so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her. Sadly nobody called or came looking for this beautiful girl. UPDATE: We temporarily listed Kim as 'Special Needs' since she tested positive for Lyme Disease and Ehrlichia (tick borne infections) on September 21, 2023 and was given given antibiotics. Kim is negative for Heartworm and Anaplasma. Kim was spayed on October 1, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine.

Story
Spice is a handsome 2-1/2 year old male American Pit Bull Terrier mix who was found on Colegate Drive in Marietta Ohio around 10:30am on the morning of October 31, 2023. Fortunately for Spice, a Good Samaritan was able to persuade him to accompany her to the safety of our shelter and away from the busy road where he was roaming around. Spice was not wearing a collar, and he was not microchipped. Spice has a dark brown/brindle-and-white short smooth coat, a long tail, and a beautiful symmetrically-marked face with dark brown eyes, a dark chocolate nose, and short floppy ears. This big boy was understandably very nervous when he was brought to the HSOV. It broke our hearts to see how scared and terrified he truly was. Our compassionate staff and kennel techs are doing their best to calm his fears and to help him realize he is among friends who care about him. These photos of Spice were taken after hours on the evening of October 31, 2023 when HSOV Executive Director Amy Rogers and HSOV Volunteer/Board Member Tracy Lynn Moore teamed up to spend time with Spice and to accompany him for a short walk in order to begin gaining his trust. Our photographer stayed a safe distance away and snapped his pictures 'from afar' so as not to make Spice nervous or feel that he was being pursued. Spice is a friendly boy but tends to be reactive. Spice weighs 55 lbs and has already been neutered. We hope that someone will recognize this boy and help us reunite him with his family. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Spice was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Sadly, nobody called or came looking for Spice.

Story
Piglet (whose real name is Brutus) is a handsome 2-year old male Pit Bull Terrier/Red Heeler mix who came to the HSOV during the overnight/early morning hours on January 26, 2024 when he was placed in one of our outside kennels near the front door of our shelter. Piglet was wearing a collar but, unfortunately, there was neither an id tag nor a dog tag on his collar ... And he was not microchipped. No information was left with Piglet, so we don't know if someone found him as a stray or whether his owner left him with us for some unknown reason. Brutus has a white short smooth coat with beautiful red/brown ticking and a large brown patch on his right side, a long tail, and an adorable symmetrically-marked face with amber-colored eyes, a liver-colored nose, and large floppy ears. Brutus might possibly have some Pointer ancestors in his family tree since at first glance he appears to have physical traits of that breed .. But he never went 'on point' when HSOV Kennel Tech Bradyn Morris helped him with this photo session on the afternoon of February 3, 2024. Brutus was full of energy and ready for 'fun-and-games' or an extra-long walk instead of posing for boring still-life pictures, but he humored us with a few great poses. Brutus weighs 64.2 lbs and is strong on the other end of a leash. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Brutus was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Sadly, nobody called or came looking for this magnificent boy. We've learned that Brutus was left in the outside kennel by his family :( An individual who was a friend of the family provided information about Brutus. He is NOT good with children (especially when food is involved), and he is NOT good with cats since he will cause mortal harm to them. Brutus is older than we believed and may be close to 8-years old.

We had late-breaking news soon after we posted Betty's Petfinder 'baby bump' photos on the evening of August 13, 2023 which included a birth announcement: Betty gave birth to six healthy puppies. These updated photos of Betty were taken on February 13, 2024 when HSOV Kennel Tech Madison Lee helped Betty with her glamour photos on a a brisk cold windy afternoon. Betty was ready to show off her trim slim girlish figure (she currently weighs slightly over 50 lbs). Betty is ready to begin the next chapter of her life. She is the picture of health these days and would love to find a fabulous home of her very own. Her sister Veronica is still in our shelter and is also looking for a fantastic home~ Betty was spayed on September 9, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine.

Story
Bailey is an adorable 7-1/2 year old female English Bulldog who was surrendered by her owner on December 27, 2023 because she did not get along the other dogs in family's home. This little sweetheart has a snow white coat, a broad chest, a tiny docked tail, and a beautiful Bulldog face with dark brown eyes, teeny white eyelashes, short ears, a black button nose, and a classic short, broad, 'upward-turned' muzzle. Bailey is listed as a 'Special Needs Dog' since she is hearing impaired/deaf. Bailey has a sweet, easygoing personality with her people friends and was a pleasure to photograph when HSOV Humane Officer Fredley Tynan accompanied her for outdoor glamour pictures late in the afternoon on August 2nd. Bailey may look familiar to many of our volunteers (and Facebook fans) since she had been brought to the HSOV on August 2, 2023 and was adopted on August 29, 2023. So Bailey spent four months in her adoptive home. Bailey weighs 48 lbs and walks fairly well on a leash. She has already been spayed. Her adopted family reported that Bailey does not do well with young children but is fine with older children. Bailey is not good with other dogs or cats. She is protective of her food bowl and does NOT tolerate having her nails trimmed. Bailey has been kept indoors and is housetrained. She is crate-trained and was kept indoors in a crate during the night. Bailey spent time in her fenced-in yard for exercise (and she enjoys being a lap dog). Bailey does well being bathed, and she loves to ride in a car. Bailey is currently in foster care. She is available for meet-and-greet and/or adoption with an approved HSOV adoption application.

Story
Duke is a handsome 2-year old male Boxer mix who was brought to the HSOV on January 30, 2024 by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff who had picked Duke up (along with his beautiful sister Lucy) on Dana's Run Road in the Newport Ohio area. Duke has a dark brown/black short smooth coat in a brindle pattern, a large white bib on his chest, white paws, a long tail, and an adorable symmetrically-marked face brindle/white face with beautiful brown eyes, a black button nose, and short floppy ears. These photos were taken on February 3, 2024 when HSOV Kennel Tech Sydney Satow spent time with Duke for his Petfinder/Facebook/Adoptapet photos. Duke weighs approximately 65 lbs and is very strong on a leash. Duke has already been neutered and was given rabies vaccine on February 14, 2023. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Duke was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Neither Duke (nor his sister Lucy) were reclaimed. We've learned that Duke does NOT do well with other dogs (or cats), so he would be looking for a home that he did not have to share with other animals.

Story
Lucy is a beautiful 2-year old female Boxer mix who was brought to the HSOV on January 30, 2024 by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff who picked Lucy up (and also her good-looking brother Duke) after they were found on Dana's Run Road in the Newport Ohio area. Lucy has a black-and-white short smooth coat with an intriguing pattern, a long tail, and an adorable face with a large black "pirate's patch" around her left eye, a black button nose on her chubby muzzle, and short floppy ears. Lucy has a vivacious outgoing personality and was ready for 'action photos' when HSOV Kennel Tech Bradyn Morris accompanied her for outdoor glamour photos on the afternoon of February 3, 2024. Lucy weighs 47.3 lbs and is surprisingly very strong on a leash since she isn't a very big girl when you see her in person. Lucy has already been spayed and was given rabies vaccine on February 14, 2023. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Lucy was held for three days so that her family would have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. Neither Lucy nor Duke were reclaimed. We've learned that Lucy is selective about making friends with other dogs and chooses those that she likes or dislikes. Lucy does NOT do well with cats and should not be placed in home where she would have contact with feline friends.
