Story
Jaxson was on a big adventure when he wound up at an AARF foster's home. He chose well, as he has gotten his shots, been neutered and is being kept comfy and cozy in the house. Way better than camping in the woods with no food! Jaxson is a very affectionate boy who loves a good belly rub. He seems to be house trained and has done with the other dogs at his foster home. He is a bright boy, who learned how to sit quickly and does pretty well on a leash. Come meet our adoptable dogs on Saturdays from 11am to 1pm in the backyard at AARF's new location- 302 Thurston St, W-S. Go to AARFWS.org to view and apply for our AARF dogs. Information about the process is available on our website. Remember that we do not adopt more than a 45-minute radius from our facility in Winston Salem.

Story
Jadzia wandered up to an AARF volunteer's home in need of a safe place to stay. She found it! She is a loving girl, who loves a good snuggle and belly rub. She is house trained already! Jadzia is a bright, young dog and learned to "sit" quickly. She even walks pretty well on a leash. She would love to meet you on Saturday so you can decide that she's the perfect girl for you! Story
Turbeau aka Beau we adopted from Forsyth Human Society in March of 2021. He has come out of his shell and worked on his manners of learning to live inside. He is an energetic and curious boy who loves to play fetch and then is also content to cuddle. He lives with a doggy sister and several cat siblings- gets along with them all. He is protective of food and toys which we have worked on. He enjoys walks and has done well learning to walk with a gentle leader. He is reactive to other dogs when on walks, especially littler dogs. Beau has lots of separation anxiety and general anxiety with new or unknown situations which we have found medication to work best making him more comfortable. He is crate and house trained. He thinks of his crate as his safe place. He would love to be in a home where he is the only dog or a larger female dog. He very much would love to be the center of attention. He also would need a home with no young children.

Story
Meet Stella! This sweet girl was found wandering around an apartment complex in Lewisville almost 2 months ago. She was found with nothing but a collar. We posted her on multiple platforms to find her owners but didn’t end up finding them. Me and my family have been fostering her since. She is now up to date on vaccines. She was a bit underweight when she came to us but we think it was from the lack of food from running around on her own. Other than that she is in great health. The vet thinks she is around one year old. She was already house broken and is now crate trained. She was ok with our other dogs for a bit but we think she would thrive the most in a home where there are no there are no other dogs. I don’t have enough room here to elaborate more so please message me for more info about this! She is great with children and likes to meet new people. She LOVES attention and will just crawl right up into your lap. She also loves to snuggle and bath time is her favorite!

Story
Paul is a handsome one year old boy, with a beautiful brindle coat, looking to find his furever home! Paul found himself at the local shelter where he spent 200 days, injured and without a home. He has since recovered from his injuries and is making up for lost time. He has tons of puppy energy but is a loving cuddle bug when he's not running around. His foster family says that Paul is crate and house trained but pulls like a tugboat on the leash. He will need to go to a home who have the time and patience to teach him leash manners. They also say Paul is smart, trainable and seems to have a strong desire to please his people. He would do best in a home with dogs his size and older children. Paul is move in ready and would love to find his people. If you are interested in meeting Paul, please visit hsdavie.org/dogs and click on his picture for an application.

Story
'Who wants to play?!' Whether you are a person or a pup, this is my favorite thing to do. I have enough energy to engage with everyone! I hope to go to a family with lots of time, or another pup to play with. I was found on the street, so I long to belong to a loving family. I am current on all my vaccinations and also spayed. Even though my energy level is over the top, I am trained in Basic Obedience and come with a lifetime guarantee from a professional trainer. If you meet me, you will definitely see how I love to cuddle and play! No rehoming fee! But, the potential new owner will be vetted by a professional dog trainer/foster parent.

These pups are in Winston Salem, North Carolina too!

Story
She is a sweet girl who lives to be with her people. She loves to play fetch or just snuggle on the couch. Her favorite is to lay down by a warm fire.  She would be the best addition to a family with kids who are a bit older.  While she is super friendly, she doesn’t know her own size.  She would also be great for someone who wants a true loyal companion- Athena is your girl.  I do not crate her and she is fully house trained.  She would love to end this year with a forever family.

Story
Meet Gina 🐾 Gina is a resilient and sweet 7-year-old pup looking for a loving, patient home. While she’s had a tough past, her gentle nature shines through, especially when she’s around other dogs. Chelsea is more comfortable with canine companions than humans and thrives in a home with other dogs to guide and support her. She’s still learning to trust people, but with time, patience, and understanding, she’ll blossom. Important Disclosures for Potential Adopters: Heartworm Positive: Gina is currently heartworm positive and being treated using the Moxy/Doxy protocol. This alternative method avoids the painful injection treatments but may take longer (up to a year) for her to test negative. Next Steps: After adoption, you can choose to continue this protocol or discuss injection treatments with your vet (cost estimate: ~$1,000). Regular monthly administration of Advantage Multi is essential, along with strict activity restriction until she tests negative. Plan for a heartworm test in 3-4 months to monitor her progress and determine when she can safely resume normal exercise. Eye Condition: Gina has some scarring on her cornea and iris, which has remained stable since her last check-up in July. Recommendations: A veterinary ophthalmologist could provide more specific guidance on her eye health, prognosis, and treatment options. While the scarring is chronic, there is a possibility her cornea could be more vulnerable to ulceration. Behavioral Notes: Gina experienced some behavioral changes while in her previous home, including reduced responsiveness and forgetting boundaries. What We Know: Neurological exams and bloodwork have ruled out underlying health issues like liver or kidney disease. These changes may stem from anxiety or stress related to her puppy mill background. Personality Traits: Gina is more comfortable around dogs than people, and she’ll thrive in a home with other calm, social dogs. She’s still fearful of people and needs a patient adopter to help her feel safe. Currently, she allows petting but only when gently approached. Gina Ideal Home: A calm, quiet environment with other friendly dogs. An adopter who understands her need for patience and is willing to give her the time and space to adjust. Someone committed to managing her health needs and providing regular vet care. Gina has so much love to give and will be a loyal companion to the right family. If you think you can provide Gina with the safe and supportive home she deserves, please reach out to learn more about her! 🐶❤️
